Getting iMovie to record in a smaller format
I have a Youtube channel, and lately I've been making some pretty long videos. I use iMovie and the computer's webcam to record, and the resulting raw recordings can get pretty huge. Like, 32GB for 2h47. Is there any way to get iMovie to record in a smaller format?

Zoom is able to adjust the MacBook Pro's built-in camera (I think it raises the ISO) for low lighting, either automatically or manually (user-controlled). This is the only application I am aware of that can change any of the camera's settings. I would like to be able to take full control of the video settings (i.e. brightness, contrast, color temperature, ISO, [digital] shutter speed, iris/aperture, etc.) on the MacBook's built-in webcam. Are there any apps, utilities, terminal commands, plugins, frameworks, etc. that can allow me to customize said settings for all video outputs?

My Macbook Air 2022 M2's Webcam/Inbuilt-Camera is not being detected. Photo booth is just black with a grayed-out shutter button. This was not a problem that came out of the box, my camera worked initially but a few months ago I remember that I could have (may have misremembered this) slightly remember turning some setting off and my camera would turn off. However I only slightly remember that and it could be totally false. I need some possible solutions as I probably misremembered "turning off" the camera. If it helps my Macbook is managed by Jamf MDM and I'm not an admin. When looking at system report under hardware and then under camera it reads "No video capture devices were found."! I use macOS Ventura 13.5.

I am using a MacBook Pro 16' inch with the M1 processor and thus have the infamous black notch (housing the webcam) at the top of the screen. I don't mind the notch at all and am not looking to hide it in any way. What bothers me is all the screen real estate going to waste. I would like to prevent the annoying "window snap-back" effect that happens anytime you try to drag a window to the top area of the screen, as illustrated in the following attachement. illustration of issue As you see, anytime a window is placed near the notch (not under the notch, just in proximity) it refuses to remain in place. This effect happens when setting the menubar to automatically hide. Is there anyway to make use of the all the pixels on the screen of a MacBook Pro? Unfortunately on my screen recording, the notch is not pictured, and one can see a part of the desktop picture which is usually hidden. After a long search online, I have only seen software or other stack overflow questions that seek to hide the notch and thus lose the screen real estate. I would like to be able to place windows under or behind the notch, as well as next to the notch.

I am using this Nexigo external webcam. Mostly, it works fine with Amazon Chime on MacOS 13.6.7. However, every day it doesn't work on the first attempt. Chime can recognize the webcam but can't use it. It gives error message "We are unable to connect to the camera you selected. Try unplugging and plugging in your webcam or restarting Amazon Chime." Once I follow this instruction, the webcam starts working. I need to perform both operations (replugging and restarting Chime) for it to work. Just doing either doesn't work. I have similar experience with other applications that use camera like FaceTime where I need to replug it once. Does any one have thoughts on what can be the issue here? Or any suggestions to automate this daily ritual? TIA!

I got a pretty weird problem with my m1 Macbook air (Monterey). The USB webcam sometimes outputs a black screen on all applications. 1. The webcam doesn't have any cover. 2. The webcam is plugged in a usb 3.0 hub, which is plugged in a usb-c dongle, which is connected to my macbook. Pulling out and re-plug in the dongle, the hub, as well as the camera won't solve the problem. 3. Turning the macbook off and back on is a hit or miss: sometimes it can fix it, other times it can't. 4. Entering safe mode can fix the problem. Rebooting into the normal mode after entering safe mode will keep the problem solved. But it will come back randomly. 5. The camera works perfectly fine on another windows laptop. 6. Ok, I just found this out: it seems like plugging in the webcam while the internal camera is in use can cause this problem. The internal camera always works fine. 7. Never had this problem on Big Sur. It's probably a Monterey bug. Edit: 1. Seems like the it's the Plug-n-Play part of the function is broken. The camera has to be connected from boot, and will fail after it's unplugged and plugged back in when Mac is turned on. What's my next step? Anyone having a similar problem?

I'm having an issue with my external webcam not being recognized on my MacBook Pro. This started suddenly a few days ago. Here are the details. **HARDWARE/SOFTWARE SPECS:** - **Webcam:** [VicTsing PC317](ttps://www.victsing.com/products/victsing-1080p-webcam) - **Computer:** MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) - **OS:** Monterrey 12.5 (latest updates installed) The webcam is plugged into the back of my Dell monitor, which is connected to a powered USB hub, which is plugged into the USB port on my Mac via an adaptor. **ISSUE AND TROUBLESHOOTING** - Webcam worked normally until a few days ago. - Then suddenly it would no longer appear as an option when running Google Meetings or Zoom. - I tried plugging and unplugging the device and restarting the computer - no luck. - I tried swapping it with the same webcam that my wife has, to see if it's a hardware issue - her webcam doesn't work either. So this suggests it's not just that my webcam broke suddenly. - I tried plugging my external microphone into the same port to see if the port was broken, but the microphone works. So this suggests the issue is not due to the USB port on my display, the hub, the cables, or adaptors - since another USB peripheral is working fine from the same port. - I checked in system report and I DO see the device showing up under the USB section but NOT under the camera section (only built-in Facetime camera appears there). So the device is detected - just not as a camera? ![system report](https://i.sstatic.net/HXBHT.png) - I ran grep -i cam in Terminal and the camera DOES show up there, listed as "active, busy" (I'm not sure of the significance of this). ![terminal](https://i.sstatic.net/a68lD.png) **NEXT STEPS** - I'm totally stuck at this stage - it seems like the system is detecting the camera but will no longer show it as an available camera in the applications where I need it. - Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Is there a simple way to know an "average person" have physically accessed your Macbook at work or at home? Of course, I can use a keylogger or an app to record what is going on the screen or using a webcam, but the downsides are huge. Reviewing all the pressed keystrokes will be a very hard work. And recording the screen or the webcam means shortening SSD lifespan, and also Macbooks highlight the webcam when it works. Maybe there are other, "think-out-of-the-box", solutions? (And no, I cannot simply install the password.)

I understand the "Automatically Adjust Brightness" feature, when enabled, is designed automatically to raise or lower the brightness of e.g. the Macbook's screen depending on whether the surrounding environment is dark or well-lit. I am curious what sensor onboard the Macbook laptop is used to detect the amount of light in the room. A cursory experiment caused my Macbook's screen to dim when I covered the webcam, even though the webcan was not on, and the green light wasn't lit. Is the Macbook's webcam constantly sensing light levels? I was under the impression that the webcam was wired to prevent the webcam from capturing without illuminating the green LED. If there is some other sensor positioned close to the webcam just for sensing light levels, what is it?

I have a Macbook Pro 2019 with decent spec. I plug it into a normal 21" external monitor. I also use an external webcam for my video call (Logitech C920e). This is a very normal workflow. But the problem is, every time I have a video call, specially if I do screenshare, the CPU usage goes 100% and everything comes to halt. My audio and video falls out of sync, and everything becomes irresponsive. When I check the Activity Monitor, it's just the system using that mach CPU. There is no special process causing this. I've turned off Software Acceleration in Chrome, but that's not the problem. The issue still exist. Also, I have the same problem if I do video recording using OBS. Any idea what is the problem? PS: The MBP specs are 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, 64GB RAM
