Can I use my keyboard to control the volume of speakers connected to my macbook by a usb c hub?

I found out that I can't control the volume of speakers connected to my monitor via HDMI using volume controls in the OS. There are countless questions about this issue, the most upvoted one being https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/336750/how-do-i-control-macbook-volume-when-a-dp-display-is-connected .
However there are some USB C hubs for sale that include a 3.5mm audio port. I was thinking that if I buy one of these I would be able to control the volume of speakers through the OS. However in one of the reviews for one of the hubs ([this one](https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-MultiPort-Adapter-Pass-Through-Charging/dp/B091KKB74Y)) , someone mentioned that they were unable to control the volume using the OS. So does this mean all USB C hubs also have this issue? I could only find discussions concerning HDMI or DisplayPort.
The reason for all of this is I want to easily control my volume using my keyboard and I also want to limit the number of cables I have connected to my MacBook as much as possible.
P.S. I know there are software solutions. I need to avoid a software solution and just need a firm "yes" or "no, because etc.."

I often leave my phone plugged into my MacBook over night. After switching to an iPhone with USB-C, it started charging up my Mac from the phone battery if the Mac isn't connected to power, which results in my phone being dead in the morning. I'm unsure whether the Mac's battery is already flat when this happens, or if it happens when the Mac is still sleeping. The battery settings on the iPhone show power being used by "USB-C Accessories".
Is there any way to disable this reverse charging behaviour?

I have a 2023 M2 MacBook Pro, with an Anker USB-C hub. I also have a USB 3.0 Switch, that I use to switch my keyboard/mouse between my MacBook and my PC.
When I plug a USB-3 to USB-C cable directly into my MacBook, nothing happens; sometimes my mouse will light up, but the MacBook doesn't see it. The USB-3 to USB-C is male on both ends.
However, if I plug in the same USB-3 to USB-C cable into the Anker USB-C hub, everything works as expected. Is there any way that I can use the USB-C cable directly, without having to use the hub?
Basically, right now my set up looks like this:
- ABLEWE 3.0 USB Switch
Mouse
--USB-A Cable--> USB Switch
--USB-3 to USB-C--> Anker Hub
--USB-C--> MacBook
But I want it to look like this:
Mouse
--USB Cable--> USB Switch
--USB-3 to USB-C--> MacBook
Note that the USB3 to USBC cable that I'm using did not come with the USB switch; its a separate cable that I had lying around.
These are the items in question.
- Anker 555 USB-C Hub (8-in-1)

I am trying to boot Kali Linux from my late 2020 M1 MacBook Air with macOS Monterey.
I tried to boot an x64 Kali image on an M1 system, but encountered the following problem.
I used both Balena Etcher and Terminal to create my bootable USB drive and both showed success. So, I shut down my computer and press the power button until the boot menu appears.
At this point, I am getting the options: Macintosh HD, Options with the symbol of settings, but no USB drive that I named Kali. After that, I press on the Macintosh HD, because I do not want to recover my Mac. When my computer opens and immediately displays a popup shows with the warning/error message "The disk you attached was not readable by this computer".
Any ideas what the problem is and how can I fix it?

I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2009. Unfortunately, I erased my internal drive which led me to OS X Utilities only. When I clicked on *reinstall OS X*, it asked me to sign into my Apple ID. But, it ended with a popup saying, *This item is temporarily unavailable.*
So I tried installing Windows 7 on that dead MacBook. I created a bootable USB, plugged it, pressed the power button while holding ⌥ Option key, selected my bootable USB (EFI Boot).
After that, I saw an installation screen of Windows 7. All the processes went well. I selected my internal Drive to install Windows. At last, I saw a popup, *Restarts in 10 seconds*. But after the restart my MacBook turned on with a blank white screen.
Can anyone please help me to get rid of this problem?

I have problems with a windows game on Bootcamp that used to work fine, and now doesn't. So I tried making a bootable bootcamp on a USB. Bootcamp runs on the USB but I would say it doesn't run as well as on my mac's internal HDD. Windows tend to not respond a lot. Also, the 32bit windows game on the USB crashes from memory errors even though I use LargeAddressAware. The game does not crash on my original bootcamp and I can get the game to use over 2GB RAM and it doesn't crash. I think maybe getting my original bootcamp setup on the flash drive might fix my issue. I also want to use this USB to be able to test doing things without it messing up my original bootcamp.
I have read that bootcamp can have problems from USB and it's better to clone your existing bootcamp to the USB. Using WintoUSB seems like a great option, but I have Windows 10 Pro, and you can't use WintoUSB with Windows 10 Pro.
I have also read that you can create a .CDR image using Disk Utility and then convert it to an .iso; then I guess I can use Rufus maybe to burn it to the usb. But the problem is, the BOOTCAMP uses 100GB but is a 230GB partition. I have more than 100GB available on my mac, but not 230GB and it told me there's not enough space. Also, everything I try takes so long, so I want to know what will work because I'm getting nowhere when trying things myself.
Can anyone suggest an easy way to clone BOOTCAMP (with Windows 10 Pro) to a USB? I have access to both Mac and Windows to do this from. Ideally I want it to clone directly so I don't have to store the 100GB or 230GB somewhere other than the USB drive.

I've got an eMac that's mostly working (running Tiger, plus a selection of other nice software), but has a broken optical drive. I have a spare USB optical drive lying around, and it works for most purposes, but, according to [this discussion](https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1182251) on the Ars Technica OpenForum, most PowerPC Macs (including eMacs) can't boot from USB drives (at least not out of the box and without a LOT of tinkering and swearing), although they _can_ boot from FireWire drives.
Just in case I ever have to reinstall Mac OS X on the eMac, here's my question: if I plug a USB-to-FireWire adapter into one of the eMac's FireWire ports, and plug the USB optical drive into that, will the eMac be able to boot from said optical drive, or will I have to shell out for a FireWire optical drive?

I have a 1 TB USB drive.
I've been using it for months.
My main iTunes library is on it.
As of yesterday, for no apparent reason, it has become read only.
I can't open iTunes.
I also tried this...
Here is the info panel on the drive:
Note that the format is currently "Mac OS Extended Case-sensitive."
"Ignore ownership of this volume" is checked, but greyed-out.
Backing it up and reformatting is not practical due to the sheer amount of data.
# How did the volume become effectively read-only?
# Any suggestions for how I can get use of the drive back?

Couple days ago, suddenly have this issue, where audio will stop playing for a few seconds.
- Audition either continues playing without sound, or freeze (in which case had to force quit
coreaudiod
to unfreeze it). Other applications either buffers as though bad network, or plays without sound. afplay
exits immediately when no sound.
- Switching back to built-in speaker and then to studio display seems to reset and audio will play again for a few seconds
- Power-cycling the studio display does not help
Unfortunately I cannot restart my mac due to important process running. Any other ideas to troubleshoot the problem?

The error is in German, it means "Mounting of "Ohne Titel" has failed. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter -Error -119930873)"
I can't find any solutions online and don't know what to do.
There is no data on this stick so I can easily format it.

However, I can see the old *Time Machine* drive here: (*About This Mac*) --> (*System Report*) --> (*USB*) --> (*USB 3.0 Bus*) -> **My Passport 25E3**
I've rebooted several times and used different cables.
What can I do to reformat that old *Time Machine* drive and mount it as just a normal external drive?

I have the MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) with M1 Pro and connecting it to the ProArt Display PA329CV.
When I'm normally working on my laptop the display works fine. However if the Mac goes to sleep and then I wake it up, I see a notification saying "usb accessories disabled". The odd thing is that the display still works with the MBP, and the battery indicator says fully charged and connected to the power adaptor.
I'm confused as to what the issue is, or whether it's a bug with Mac OS. The ProArt Display PA329CV can connect to the Mac via USB-C with 90W Power Delivery.
If I try to use the USB-C connector simply for the display, and use the mag-safe charger to power the MBP then the monitor doesn't work at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

My iMac 2020 reboots when 2nd monitor is connected via USB-c. I've been through apple support so many times! I gave my iMac to Apple Genius etc. Nobody at Apple is willing to admit that iMac has a malfunction. I've been struggling with it for over 8 months and I know for a fact that it reboots only when I connect any 2nd monitor! Apple thinks I should go to the monitor's manufacturer or to Adobe (since I use Photoshop). I know that this monitor works great with other computers and it's not the only monitor I tried with my iMac. But only my iMac reboots. So support essentially is useless for me and I have to deal with it by myself.
So I wonder is there any other way I can use a second monitor apart from connecting it via USB-c? Is it possible to use a Bluetooth dongle to my second monitor? Are there any other ways?

Last time I could work with usb-serial port on Mac OS Sonoma.
Then, after a probably update, the serial port dissapered and I couldn't find a new one. I´ve tried several solutions, no one was running, downloading FTDI driver from FTDI chip and installing were not successful, so now I cant work with my hardware anymore. Silabs CP210x USB to UART Bridge Driver was not working as well, it installed successfully but created no usbserial device
Besides the fact that it is very dangerous in trying "something" on the system, installing drivers, gibe them access to the system, I would predicated and usbserial solution from Apple.
Is there a possibility to get a usbserial driver for Sonoma?

Just recently picked up an iPad 4. Saw that it specifies "not charging" when plugged into the usb port. Saw that it is a common issue due to usb power. I have usb 3.0 ports on my desktop so I tried that and the same result. USB 3.0 is specified for up to 900 ma while 2.0 is 500ma. Course even that can change depending on a few things. Seems that the iPad wants up to 2.1 amps. So I searched for solution using dual usb ports like some external 2.5" laptop hard drives use. I found nothing which surprised me. If I can get 900ma x 2 ports (for 1.8 total amps) I am near the full charge spec for the iPad.
Such cables seem foreign but I found 2 of them. Most Y cables like this come with a mini usb at the end so these are unfortunately rare and more expensive (unless you want to solder your own which I suppose I could do too with my abundance of cables).

Step 8: Still 0.51
Step 9: Still 0.51
Step 10: 0.735
Step 11: Still 0.735
Step 12: Still 0.735
Step 13: Still 0.735
Step 14: 1.0
Step 15: Still 1.0
Step 16: Still 1.0
So as you can see, instead of the 16 incremental volume steps I should have, I only get 7, which is not enough.
Any idea why this is happening or how I can fix it?
Here's my system:
- Mac mini 2020 (M1)
- Ventura 13.3.1
- KEF LSX II speakers (connected through USB-C).
