Do modern iPhones' battery still use a dual-cell design?
I remember that iPhone X featured a dual-cell battery design. I see that the iPhone 16 Pro & Pro Max features a L-shaped battery, while the vanilla and Plus model is a rectangle design. But I don't see any analysis mentioning whether it is still dual-cell inside?

I would like to get the number of recharge cycles using bash (terminal commands). I understand the following command will display all of the battery data, but I want the cycle count on its own
ioreg -l -w0 |grep Capacity
I use the following command to get the battery percentage, so I imagine it can be modified slightly to get the cycle count instead;
ioreg -l | awk '$3~/Capacity/{c[$3]=$5}END{OFMT="%.3f";max=c["\"MaxCapacity\""];print(max>0?100*c["\"CurrentCapacity\""]/max:"?")}'
I'm new to bash, so I'm not completely sure how that code works, or how I'd adapt it for my needs.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A few years ago I replaced the battery of my mid-2015 MacBook Pro which had become inflated. I replaced it with an iFixit battery. At first, everything seemed to go perfectly fine but for quite a while now I noticed two problems:
1. When no plugged in, the battery apparently can die very suddenly. As in, I get no warning to quickly plug the computer in because the battery is low on charge.
2. The battery recharges very slowly and never fully. It stop at no more than about 25%.
My original power adapter was frayed somewhat and I replaced it but that didn't help. I also tried resetting PRAM and the SMC but that didn't help.
Attached are snapshots of
coconutBattery
app when I plug in the power adapter and after a few hours.
**Update**: I ran a diagnostics from boot. It mentioned that my battery may not be charging properly, suggested that I disconnect then reconnect the power adapter, and rerun the diagnostics. I did all that, and restarted. I still observe the same problem. The battery is not charging and still stuck at the same percentage of charge.

USB tethering or Wi-Fi hotspot, which one is more economical for iPhone's power usage?
I don't have a router; I hotspot from my iPhone 13 to my laptop. I used to do this when the iPhone was unplugged and I exhausted the battery rapidly by mistake. Now I plug it in. Should I connect the phone to a wall charger and use Wi-Fi tethering or connect to the laptop and use USB tethering?

How can I fix AirPod battery life lower than 24 hours of use?

I just got my Airpods gen 2 a couple of weeks ago. However the battery life is nowhere near the 24 hours Apple says.
I took notes, and got **9½ hours** of listen time, before the Charging Case was empty (5%; no longer charging the Airpods). Once the Case is empty, the Airpods slowly discharge, inside the Case, at around 6% per hour. This appears to be the case for others, but this would mean they would be empty within a day.
I exclusively use them when walking the dog, so **4 times** a day, for about **30 minutes**. I get only 4 days of use out of them, before I have to recharge them.
**My question is**; Is it normal to get so few hours out of them, with my usage pattern? Or should I have them checked out, by the store, under warranty? I know the 24 hour they promise is under ideal conditions, but getting around half that seems odd. Other than this, I'm really liking my Airpods.
Some additional info:
1. My volume is always below 50%
2. I have them connected to my iPhone 8 (which supports Bluetooth 5 AFIK)
3. "hey siri" is disabled
4. I only listen to podcasts (Overcast App)
5. After walking for half an hour, the Airpods charge is around 90-93%, which is about right (10% of 5 hours = half an hour). When I put them in their case, and wait for them to charge up again, the case loses 6-8%. One would expect this to be only 2-3%.
6. I measured charging only the case with a generic Charger Doctor, and got 326mAh of current usage (5% -> 100%).
7. One would expect the case to add 19 hours of usage (i.e. 24h total - 5h for the Airpods themselves). So I get exactly half.
8. I tried looking this up, but everyone is only talking about the battery life of the airpods themselves (5h), not the case (or both combined).
8. (I don't live near a Apple store)

I've had this issue for about a month. I've done the factory reset and my Mac was fine for a week but is now slowly going back to draining the battery overnight. I've tried everything to fix it and I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm sure if I go to Apple they will tell me it's some sort of bug.
Before I did the factory reset it would run literally all night doing the same set of actions over and over, resulting in a large battery drain - here are the results from that ([(help) 2020 MacPro battery draining overnight](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/ia31l3/help_2020_macpro_battery_draining_overnight/)) .
Some additional information:
1. My Bluetooth is always off
2. I close all apps at night
3. I've gone to Activity Monitor to find out what is preventing sleep but it's just the OS systems, none of the (very few) apps I have installed.
I'm not too flash with computers so I will just post the terminal log results that my Mac repeats all throughout the night. Please help!

I have the MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) with M1 Pro and connecting it to the ProArt Display PA329CV.
When I'm normally working on my laptop the display works fine. However if the Mac goes to sleep and then I wake it up, I see a notification saying "usb accessories disabled". The odd thing is that the display still works with the MBP, and the battery indicator says fully charged and connected to the power adaptor.
I'm confused as to what the issue is, or whether it's a bug with Mac OS. The ProArt Display PA329CV can connect to the Mac via USB-C with 90W Power Delivery.
If I try to use the USB-C connector simply for the display, and use the mag-safe charger to power the MBP then the monitor doesn't work at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

My MacBook Pro (M1) is showing “Battery Not Charging” even though it is connected to the original Apple 67W USB-C charger (which is correctly detected by macOS). This occurs intermittently. Restarting the computer temporarily fixes it, but the problem returns after a few hours.
Battery details:
- Battery cycle count: 433
- Battery health: Normal (85%)
- State of charge: ~25% when problem occurs
• Temperature: Normal (~30 °C)
I know enough to be able to check battery details via terminal
pmset -g batt
Now drawing from 'AC Power'
-InternalBattery-0 (id=22610019) 24%; AC attached; not charging present: true
The most concerning detail is that the InstantAmperage is clearly invalid:
ioreg -r -n AppleSmartBattery -w0 | grep -E "InstantAmperage"
I get
InstantAmperage = 18446744073709549095
I suspect a wraparound 64-bit overflow. The fact that restarting temporarily restores normal behaviour also suggests this is not a charger or OS-level issue.
I’m trying to confirm:
1. Is this a battery controller failure?
2. Is there any further diagnostic I should run to be certain?
3. Would battery replacement resolve this, or could it be a logic board issue?

My MacBook Pro (2016) Retina is suddenly only charging when it is turned off or in sleep mode. I've tried a bunch of things already and a quick check by the Apple support desk didn't show any problems so I hope someone else had te same issue.
I've tried:
- SMC reset
- Reset my entire laptop back to factory settings & reinstalled MacOS Big Sur
- Checked with another charger
- Battery health is 'good'
- Turned off optimise battery life
I'm in the middle of finals so hopefully I can find a solution!
Thanks :)

Everyone else in my family uses iPhones, but I'm an Android user, so I can't use the "Find my iPhone", although I can see it on the website.
I looked at his battery history this morning and it looks like it never totally died:
It's also my understand that iPhones will try to update their location for a while after they "die."

I have the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) and I've been having weird charging issues (I recently upgraded to macOS Big Sur if thats relevant). When I connect the charger it won't always charge, and when I press the battery symbol it only says "not charging". One of the ports never works, but the other works after its been plugged in for a little while.
The battery still drains when the charger is connected but not charging.
I've tried resetting SMC, troubleshooting/diagnostic scan shows nothing wrong, the ports and the charger looks undamaged...
The battery works completely fine as far as I know other than this, this is a recent issue.

MacBook Air 2020 Intel T2 stuck with Internet Recovery and possible bad battery

I need some help to revive a MacBook Air Retina / Intel, early 2020 (T2 chip). I bought it from the former owner, who did not use it for a year, and the machine did not start anymore.
I finally managed to start it up in safe mode after charging it overnight, NVRAM and SMC reset, with the battery warning sign visible. The mouse was moving very slowly over the screen. It could not normally start.
As I could not lock in, I finally put it in DFU mode and managed to make a restore from Apple Configurator 2 with an iMac (MacOS 12).
It now starts only in Internet Recovery mode. When I have to choose the wifi network, it gets stuck after password entry, with an endless spinning wheel. The fans run at high speed and mouse behavior is very sluggish. Even after hours, no progress.
The machine is cleared off from iCloud by the former owner.
I ordered a replacement battery from a 3rd party vendor and it has exactly the same behavior. The machine gets off immediately after I unplug the power cable.
I managed once to start Internet Recovery in Ethernet mode. With a USB C > USB A dongle and an apple USB A > Ethernet dongle. For the first time the progress bar appeared and showed progressively up to 24:00 (min) before getting stuck again.
Questions:
Diagnosis ? Bad Battery only and bad replacement battery? Or other hardware issues? Any chance that the battery and speed problems resolve after internet recovery?
Therapy? Another replacement battery? The vendor is not so willing to replace it.
I wanted to retry internet recovery again with ethernet, ideally buying a Thunderbolt 3 > 2 and a Thunderbolt 2 > Ethernet adapter to make this work best.

Is there some messages hiding in some system log somewhere that I can look for or perhaps some battery history system utility? I know very little about macOS so I'm not sure what to look for or where.

I want to get to the root of the problem and figure out what is consuming so much energy.
Should I be quitting all my apps before going into sleep mode? I thought the point of sleep mode is that it pauses all processes running. Or should I just be shutting off my computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode?

If I plug the powerbank into any of my MacBook Pro's USB-C ports it'll charge the laptop. Is there any way I can tell my MacBook Pro to charge the powerbank instead?
I know I can charge other USB-C devices, like my phone or iPad, from my MacBook Pro's USB-C port.

I have a strange issue with my Macbook.
- Macbook Pro (13" late 2011)
- Memory 4GB
- Processor Intel 2.4GHZ
- Graphics Intel HD
- Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6
- Two original Power Adapters 60W
A week ago my battery failed and the Macbook became very slow all the time under any condition. This makes all sense to me. After replacing the battery the condition changed (improved a lot). Anyhow, I decided also to do a clean reinstall of Sierra after so many years, which went without any problems. The following problem description is the same for the time before and after the re-install of Sierra.
Here is what happens:
- When charged a 100% while using the power adapter the mac gets very, very slow. The activity monitor is showing kernel CPU usage of up to 500%, the system is running at ~93%, user load is normal with ~8%. The activity monitor is not showing any processes with excessive energy consumption. Memory consumption is normal too. The Mac works well until the battery is fully charged.
- As soon as I disconnect the power adapter and the Mac is only running on battery the kernel goes down, system and user CPU load is running below 10% and all is back to normal. As soon as the battery charge goes down to ~95% or less, all is good again also with the re-connected power adapter.
- The problem repeats itself any time when the battery gets fully charged.
- No difference with different power adapters.
- The charging process and time seems to be absolutely normal.
- No difference with or without third party hardware connected.
- SMC / PRAM reset does not make a difference.
- Virus and malware check negative.
- Mac HD drive checks all good, no problems, no repair was required.
- Only when running in Safe mode, the Mac works well under any power supply and charge condition.
- Temperatures for battery, CPU and GPU as well as related fan speeds are all normal under any condition, also when the problem occurs.
- Over night I am leaving the Mac in sleep. It seems that the Mac shuts down at times automatically, but than also reboots on its own since there is a message in the morning that the external drive was not ejected correctly.
My best guess is an internal energy supply issue, but I have no idea how to continue from here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance.
**UPDATE**
- Ran the Battery completely empty.
- Recharged after that fully.
- Performed SMS / PRAM reset before restart.
- Strangely the battery Health (coconut) went from 100% to 101,2%
- The maximum capacity went from 5900mAh (which is also the design capacity) to 5971mAh.
- Problem remains the same and occurs only with full battery and charger attached.

syspolicyd is consistently using ~20% CPU and consuming lots of power. Tracing it with
sudo fs_usage "$(pgrep syspolicyd)"
reveals that it's repeatedly scanning the same dozen or so Steam apps in my ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
directory.
Is there any way to convince it to be less aggressive about scanning, or remind it that it's already scanned these locations? Or at least get it to tell me why it's doing this without resorting to dtrace
tooling?
