Does activating Find My Phone deplete the battery on an iOS device being tracked?

My phone is currently riding around New York City under the seat of a taxi cab. I'm watching its progress with the Find iPhone app. My concern is the phone may soon die and a rider or driver will not see the messages for assistance being sent. Does tracking my iPhone with Find iPhone deplete the battery?
