I understand that Apple automatically updates the firmware for AirPods while charging when connected to an iPhone. I have some AirPods used only with Apple TV. Will those get updated as well? Or should I occasionally connect the AirPods to my iPhone (and leave charging)? Apple published the page [*About firmware updates for AirPods*](https://support.apple.com/en-us/106340) . That page lists current firmware version numbers. As for updating, it says: > Firmware updates are delivered automatically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi. That document omits any mention of Apple TV. So I would conclude that Apple TV does not update firmware, but I thought I would ask for confirmation here.

The problem is that *sometimes* it thinks I want to be connected to a Mac, even when I'm not in the same room. Clicking the AirPods causes Apple Music to launch and start playing on a Mac. I could understand playing if I already had Music open, but this is just ridiculous behavior. I get that sometimes it's going to guess wrong about which device I want to be connected to, but is there any way to not *launch* Apple Music?

I just got my Airpods gen 2 a couple of weeks ago. However the battery life is nowhere near the 24 hours Apple says. I took notes, and got **9½ hours** of listen time, before the Charging Case was empty (5%; no longer charging the Airpods). Once the Case is empty, the Airpods slowly discharge, inside the Case, at around 6% per hour. This appears to be the case for others, but this would mean they would be empty within a day. I exclusively use them when walking the dog, so **4 times** a day, for about **30 minutes**. I get only 4 days of use out of them, before I have to recharge them. **My question is**; Is it normal to get so few hours out of them, with my usage pattern? Or should I have them checked out, by the store, under warranty? I know the 24 hour they promise is under ideal conditions, but getting around half that seems odd. Other than this, I'm really liking my Airpods. Some additional info: 1. My volume is always below 50% 2. I have them connected to my iPhone 8 (which supports Bluetooth 5 AFIK) 3. "hey siri" is disabled 4. I only listen to podcasts (Overcast App) 5. After walking for half an hour, the Airpods charge is around 90-93%, which is about right (10% of 5 hours = half an hour). When I put them in their case, and wait for them to charge up again, the case loses 6-8%. One would expect this to be only 2-3%. 6. I measured charging only the case with a generic Charger Doctor, and got 326mAh of current usage (5% -> 100%). 7. One would expect the case to add 19 hours of usage (i.e. 24h total - 5h for the Airpods themselves). So I get exactly half. 8. I tried looking this up, but everyone is only talking about the battery life of the airpods themselves (5h), not the case (or both combined). 8. (I don't live near a Apple store)

# Problem In my apartment, when using the AirPods with my Mac, the audio is significantly choppy, fluttery and unreliable. There are frequently small "pops" when listening to music. The issue is not present when using the AirPods with my iPhone. The Apple Stack Exchange question you are reading now, is actually an update to my question on the same topic that was posted and resolved here previously. I had this very same issue while on macOS Sierra 10.12.4. We found out that the culprit was a bug introduced in that particular macOS version, and the problem went away with 10.12.5. I am now on 10.12.6 and having a quite identical problem. But I'm not confident that the OS is at fault this time. The reason is that I recently swapped my AirPods for a new pair, via an unrelated Apple support ticket. The new ones arrived via mail and I was instructed to pair them with my original case. The new pair of AirPods seem significantly more prone to skipping, stuttering and losing connection. I did not have this problem with my original AirPods, which I also used with 10.12.6 without problems (at least that I am cognizant of). # Possible explanation I think I have found what's causing the skipping (albeit not the root cause), and it seems to be my **iPhone Bluetooth signalling with its environment**. Whenever that happens, there is a glitch/pop on the Mac ←→ AirPod connection. When I disable Bluetooth on the iPhone, the problems go away. I haven't changed anything in my environment except swapping the AirPods. No microwave in the background etc. I am quite confident that the reason is Bluetooth interaction from the iPhone. I am just not sure how to proceed, because the weird thing is that the problems started just when I replaced the AirPods for a new pair. **Some plausible root causes are:** * The new AirPods are in fact defect or come from a batch that are not as 'good' with Bluetooth. * macOS 10.12.6 introduced a bug similar to the one in macOS 10.12.4, but I didn't realize it until much later (not that likely IMO, knowing how sensitive I am to audio quality). * The pairing process whereby new AirPod buds were paired with an original case didn't go exactly right, and there is a firmware or software problem somewhere. # What I have tried * 'Hard Reset' of the AirPods according to these instructions ; * Resetting the iPhone Network Settings after "Forgetting this device" (the AirPods) as part of the AirPod 'Hard Reset'. * Resetting the Mac Bluetooth Module according to these instructions .

I have a new Macbook Air (2019 version) with macOS Catalina. My issue is that it keeps disconnecting the audio output I'm using. This has been occurring ever since I bought the mac 3 weeks ago, rendering it useless to play music. If I plug in my headset with minijack, I'll get to play music for about 1-5 minutes, before the Mac goes into some form of epilepsy mode, where I can observe in the audio settings that the audio output (in this case external headset) is removed and added very rapidly, sometimes naming the source "unknown", like every half second for about 2-3 minutes, before resuming to play music. If I physically take out the mini jack during this epilepsy mode, the Mac will play music from the internal speakers, which is now named "unknown". During this time I'm not able to change the volume, having to quit iTunes/Spotify to make the music stop. This occurs suddenly and without any obvious triggers. Its been happening 2 times while writing this post. It seems to happens regardless of external monitors, what programs are running, and happens on 2 different headsets with minijack and even with my bluetooth connected Airpods. Any ideas?

I have two Macs — a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro —, both around 10 years old. The MacBook Pro is pretty up to date, but I'm running MacOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) on the Air. I'm thinking of getting a pair of AirPod 4s with noise cancellation. One of the uses (apart from music at the gym, etc), would be for Zoom meetings on the MacBook Air. I wanted to know whether that is going to work, in terms of the technical requirements for the AirPod 4s. I went to the technical specs page for these and found: > Mac models with the latest version of macOS So in a sense I guess that answers the question -- they wouldn't work with Mojave. And yet, that answer seems so generic (in fact, they list "latest OS version" for every possible device), that I wonder whether there isn't in fact a more specific answer. After all, the latest version changes. Does anyone know for sure, and can point me to the page where I could read more?

One of my AirPods in my AirPods Pro wasn’t charging recently, so I decided to check out the charging pins in the case. I tried fiddling with them using a toothpick attempting to remove any dust in them. However, I overdid it and one of the charging pins is now stuck inside the case as shown in the following image:- enter image description here (You can see one charging pin is out and the other is stuck inside) I am unable to remove it by tapping on the back of the case and I’ve even tried using a magnet to attract it. The AirPods are out of warranty so I’m not really intent on repairing it at an apple store because I’m pretty sure they’ll ask me to replace the entire case. What can I do?

I got my AirPods Pro new four months ago. They worked great until last night. I used them yesterday morning. When I finished the case the pods were each about half charged. I left them by my bed all day, not plugged in to charge, but with the pods in the case and the case closed normally. I went to use them last night and they acted completely dead. The LED won't light in any circumstances. I open the case and my phone doesn't pop up the battery indicator. I put them in my ears and they make no sound. I hold down the pairing button on the back and they won't pair with other Bluetooth devices or respond to other Bluetooth devices they are already paired with. They won't respond to my iPad that they were paired with either. Completely dead. I spent most of the day yesterday with my phone about ten feet from the AirPods Pro. I got and installed the iOS 15.0.1 update on my iPhone 12 Pro sometime during the day yesterday. It seems to work fine. I noted last night that a new AirPods Pro firmware update was released the day before yesterday. I believe the firmware update, or possibly the iOS update, somehow bricked my AirPods. I can't think of any other possible thing that would make them suddenly stop working without anything physical happening to them. Last night I plugged them in to charge. I confirmed that the charging wire was working by plugging it into my phone first. After a few minutes, the AirPods felt a bit warm to the touch in the bottom middle. I assume this was the battery charging. This morning they still felt warm to the touch. I think this is a bad sign. It doesn't take eight hours to charge the batteries. They are still totally unresponsive. I tried [How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209463) , but no luck. I noted that my iPhone and iPad still report the firmware version as 3E751, not the new 4A400 before I did Forget This Device. Is there anything I can try on my own before calling Apple to get these replaced?

I have recently had the following problem; Only one of my AirPods (left or right) can connect at the same time. Both clearly work, if I only have the left in the case and reset the case, the left connects fine, and if I only have the right in the case when I reset the case, the right connects. When both are in the case when I reset, it seems to randomly select the left or the right. I am trying to connect them to an iPhone running iOS 18.3.2. This is the usual phone the AirPods always connect to. I have tried leaving them charging overnight to ensure their firmware is up to date. How can I fix this?

I upgraded my AirPod Pros to the newest version, and rather than discard the old pair, I connected them to my work computer (Windows 10). I have a noisy air handler right above my desk, and the noise canceling is really helpful. I now only use this set of AirPods with the work computer, and I do not want them to accidentally try to connect to my personal MacBook or iPhone when at work, so I removed them from my account. I am fine with the limitations inherent in using AirPods on a locked-down, employer-issued Windows machine - the absence of FindMy, the lack of battery level indicators, the tinny audio quality when microphone is enabled - but I *really* would like a way to completely disable the "found moving with you" notifications every time I take my work computer home for telework days. I only telework once or twice a week, and I can only pause these notifications one day at a time, so I get them on every telework day. Are there any recommended options? I do have an AppleID used only for work (we set up a developer account for one research team, I manage the account) but I don't have a work-issued Apple device to use to tie the AirPods to that account. I also am trying to avoid the manual Bluetooth pairing dance every time I need to join a virtual meeting, which is why I removed the AirPods from my own account to begin with.

AirPods Pro 2 could be used somehow as a hearing aid with using the [conversation boost feature](https://support.apple.com/de-de/guide/airpods/dev966f5f818/web) . Apple announced that now with iOS 18 you need to do [a hearing test](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOuNLS1elWs) and afterwards you can use them as a full hearing aid device.
I updated to iOS 18 and AirPods 7A305 but couldn't find such a feature. How to access it?
