Can I use my keyboard to control the volume of speakers connected to my macbook by a usb c hub?

I found out that I can't control the volume of speakers connected to my monitor via HDMI using volume controls in the OS. There are countless questions about this issue, the most upvoted one being https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/336750/how-do-i-control-macbook-volume-when-a-dp-display-is-connected .
However there are some USB C hubs for sale that include a 3.5mm audio port. I was thinking that if I buy one of these I would be able to control the volume of speakers through the OS. However in one of the reviews for one of the hubs ([this one](https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-MultiPort-Adapter-Pass-Through-Charging/dp/B091KKB74Y)) , someone mentioned that they were unable to control the volume using the OS. So does this mean all USB C hubs also have this issue? I could only find discussions concerning HDMI or DisplayPort.
The reason for all of this is I want to easily control my volume using my keyboard and I also want to limit the number of cables I have connected to my MacBook as much as possible.
P.S. I know there are software solutions. I need to avoid a software solution and just need a firm "yes" or "no, because etc.."

I want to switch between my work computer (2019 MacBook Pro) and home computer (2017 MacBook Air) and use the same peripherals and connections:
- USB mouse
- USB keyboard
- Monitor
- Ethernet (optional)

Is there a dock or charging station that would allow me to switch between these?
Based on an older [question](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/265917/using-a-usb-c-dock-with-older-macbook-pros) , it seems that trying to use the Thunderbolt 2 connection for the MacBook Air would not work, but would a USB connection work?

I'm interested in buying the new 5K retina 2022 [Apple Studio Display](https://www.apple.com/studio-display/) . However, I use a personal Mac and a work Mac at the same desk.
Frequently switching cables between the two Macs whenever I want to use the display would be annoying. The Studio Display does not offer input switching, and only one of the USB-C / Thunderbolt ports on the back is capable of connecting to the host computer.
How can I easily switch Macs connected to the Studio Display?
Is there a [KVM switch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switch) (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch capable of swapping between Macs connected to the Studio Display?
I'm looking for something like the old VGA KVM switch below, but for USB-C, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, or whatever else is needed for the new Apple Studio Display.
The switch should ideally pass along the monitor's speakers and webcam, along with any peripherals connected to its USB-C ports.
I'm unable to find any Thunderbolt 3 or 4 KVM switches. Some USB-C KVM switches do seem to exist, but I'm unsure if this new Apple Studio Display works with them properly. Some state they do not work with Apple or Thunderbolt devices.
The same question was asked for the older Apple Thunderbolt Display here:

Yes, I read the similar question but thought this one was different since that one referenced a 10-yr old Macbook that didn't have the Touchbar. And there are ways to solve the problem in that question.

I have looked online for the answer to my question, and the most information I could find relating to connecting Nintendo Switch’s official wireless controllers to an Apple device were articles such as [one from TechCrunch](https://www.techcrunch.com/2017/03/06/nintendo-switch-joy-con-and-pro-controllers-work-on-pc-mac-and-android/) and another from [AppleInsider](http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/03/06/how-to-play-mac-games-with-nintendo-switch-joy-con-and-pro-controllers/) on how to connect the Joy-Con controllers to a desktop or mobile Apple device.

PS button on DualSense controller forces opening launchpad on Ventura

I'm having trouble with my MMB when using Blender (3D). At first I assumed it was a software issue but now I'm thinking maybe its the button itself.
Is there a way I can test this out on something else? I need to be able to
click + hold + drag
in multiple directions using the MMB.
I can't think of any other app that does this.
I looked into trying to swap the MMB with LMB and test it that way, but can't find a way to do that either.
Just to note, the mousewheel itself works fine.

I have a Apple MacMini (2018 3GHz 6-core Intel Core i5, 16GB) and I run it as a server with some Docker containers (Home Assistant, Pi-hole, etc).
All works fine, as long as power is on. Power outage are rare here, but if for some reason the MacMini loses power (group test, accidental press on power-splitter button etc) and Im not home (I travel frequently) I have to ask someone at home to reset it.
But then comes the issue; it powers on again after power outage, but then because it doesn't have a mouse and keyboard connected it goes into password recovery mode and refuses just to boot nicely to the login screen, where I could then remotely access it with VNC and SSH. Also Docker and all other tools start automatically again on boot, so a power outage wouldn't be a big issue, as long as it simply boots into the OS itself.
Is there some way on a firmware level to stop this from happening? It's very annoying, because people at home have little technical knowledge and cant easily perform the tasks. I could buy the cheapest mouse and keyboard so that something is connected and it just boots normal, but I would love to know if there's an alternative.
Thanks in advance!

How does a Mac identify an Infinity USB Foot Control? If it is recognized as a standard keyboard, I would prefer to use [Karabiner-Elements](https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org/) to program the foot control to emulate the media keys on my keyboard.

I am considering upgrading my Nintendo Switch's storage by getting a MicroSD card with a larger capacity and then copying over the games, savegame data, etc to the new card.
Although Nintendo has [a support article about this](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27595/~/how-to-transfer-data-between-microsd-cards-for-use-on-nintendo-switch) , when it comes to Mac here's all they have to say:
> **Important:** This process may not be able to copy the microSD card
> contents correctly in environments other than Windows (such as Mac).
Okay, thanks for the notice. But then, how is a Mac user supposed to accomplish this?
I was wondering if this might be a task Disk Utility could handle. Or maybe there's some other utility app that can be downloaded for this purpose, or... if I'm lucky, maybe it is as simple as dragging over folder contents the way the steps indicate it is for Windows. (Probably should be sure to include any hidden files.) But the way the disclaimer is worded, it makes me concerned that there's something about trying this on a Mac that makes the process more involved.
Nintendo's ["recommended"](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/220/) card formatting software, [SD Memory Card Formatter](https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/) , has a Mac version. So I'm not really clear on what part of this process is complicated on a Mac or why? All I can think of is: maybe macOS cannot read the formatted card after formatting?
If anyone who has tried this could enlighten me regarding what this process involves on a Mac, I would really appreciate it.
(I'm currently using Mojave and Monterey, on different machines.)

Is there any way to enable them on the Mac as well?

Is there a way to make Logitech side mouse buttons just be generic mouse buttons? If there is a way to do this, I can't find it in the "Logi Options" app, which is the program that Logitech provides for configuring Logitech mouse buttons.
Yes, I ***can*** set a side mouse button to be a left-click or a right-click. But what about setting it to be mouse button 4, 5, or 6?
There are many programs that will let me bind functionality to mouse buttons 4, 5, and 6, etc. But my Logitech mice do not seem willing to expose their extra buttons as just generic mouse buttons. It's very frustrating!
If there's no way to make this work for a Logitech mouse, does anyone have any recommendations for a good ***ergonomic*** mouse that has some side buttons and merely exposes these as simple generic mouse buttons that apps can identify as such?
P.S. I'm using Catalina at the moment.

My multifunction Printer / Scanner doesn't have any scanning functions available under macOS 10.13 High Sierra while connected over network.
The scanner function worked over network under macOS 10.10 Yosemite.
The scanner is detected by Image Capture only when connected via USB.
Resetting the print system from the instructions in this question has not solved the problem: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/311278/brother-mfc-scanner-not-recognized-any-more/333436#333436
- Brother MFC-9335CDW
- macOS 10.13.6
- Driver version 4.1.2
Under macOS 10.10 Yosemite there was a "Scan" button on the top-right of the panel in the picture above while connected over network.
The Scan button appears in macOS 10.13 High Sierra only when the device is connected via USB.
I can add the scanner portion separately to the MFC over network ie. it's recognized, but when I try to use it in Image Capture it gives an error that the software isn't installed. If I try to allow it to install software available from Apple automatically it fails to install.
Brother iPrint&Scan says the device is not supported...?
If the printer is added using Airport driver the result is the same as using the CUPS driver over network:

Different keyboard mapping on external keyboard
Currently I have a challenging keyboard setup. My MacBook Pro has a `fr_FR` (French AZERTY) keyboard, but the layout is currently set to `fr_CA` (Canadian QWERTY). Even if the keys are not labelled right, it works perfectly fine for me who's used to a French Canadian keyboard. [
en_US
(American QWERTY). I would like it to also have the fr_CA
"feel", but it seems to behave differently – seems like it simply applies the locale from my physical keyboard without "assigning" the keys based on the different layout that en_US
is compared to fr_FR
.
How could I make sure that the location of the keys on the en_US
honours the layout of a fr_CA
, different from the physical fr_FR
keyboard?

I was looking at either buying a Henge dock or a cheaper option such as this 14 in one USB C hub I found on Amazon.
Does the adapter make a difference for this too?

New Apple Mac mini (3.6GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB) — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08636S4KV
For my display, I'm thinking this 24 inch Dell P2415Q 4K IPS Monitor — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QAJ2MOM
Would a Mac mini be able to output at Ultra HD 4K 3840 x 2160 resolution so that I can make the most of the display? or would I be better off buying a lower resolution display?
Also I've noticed the Mac mini only has two USB ports, I could do with 4 in total, for the following:
1. Phone charger
2. External hard drive (for Time Machine backups)
3. Keyboard
4. Mouse
So I was thinking of buying this 4-port USB hub — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y25XFGK
But I think I've had problems with these in the past, where they don't generate enough power for certain devices. Am I likely to have this problem using this with a Mac mini?

I have recently downgraded to a Logitech MX Anywhere first-generation mouse (the one that requires a receiver and without multi-device switching). Got it paired successfully with my Mac and have the basic functions but the Logitech Control Center software does not recognize the mouse so I cannot customize any button.
Every time I open Logitech Control Center in System Preferences, the following dialog box pops up:
> System policy is blocking Logitech system extension from loading, which may result in some Logitech devices not working properly.
I checked the Security & Privacy panel and found only 1 item for Logitech Control Center: under Automation
Logitech's support article (bottom of page) shows that the item under "Logitech Control Center Daemon" to be "Finder" instead of "System Events".
How can I get Finder under there or give Logitech the permission it needs?

I've connected to a monitor (34UC88-B) to my MacBook Pro (Late 2016, no Touch Bar) through a DisplayPort to USB-C connector. The monitor has speakers that I use when I'm connected to it.
Everything works fine when it's working. No problems with the display or the sound.
However, when I disconnect the monitor from the MacBook OR when I leave it connected overnight and log in to my computer in the morning, the monitor speakers disappear from Sound Preferences and the sound comes from only my macbook's internal speakers.
I've tried disconnecting the monitor and reconnecting and switching off the monitor off and on. Nothing works.
The only thing that does work is restarting my MacBook. As soon as it restarts, I can see the monitor's speakers in the sound preferences again and I can switch to them without problem.
It's really annoying to restart my computer each time disconnect or get up in the morning. Logging off and on doesn’t work. Only a restart does.
How do I fix this?
Before Restart (Monitor is connected and the display works) :
After Restart:
I don't know what the Apowersoft_AudioDevice is. When I switch to it, I get no sound.

Now I'm thinking about getting an external drive (DVD-RW, USB or Firewire). Most of these devices don't explicitly mention Mac compatibility. According to this forum post , most of the drives should be compatible though.
I was wondering if there's some sort of "official" compatibility list for different versions of Mac OS X? I also read somewhere that OS X 10.5 and 10.6 are compatible with most of the external drives... is there some information about which devices *won't* work?
