I recently came across this beautiful looking device called **USB SuperDrive** while buying something on an e-commerce website.
After I searched about this device, I got to know that it's a portable **USB CD/DVD-RW drive** from the year **2008** which can burn & play CDs and DVDs.
I got interested to buy it. But I see this product being discontinued by Apple officially.
Will it work with the newer **Macbook Pro/Air** series with **Apple Silicon/Intel** processors?

One thing that is pushing me towards the 14 is that I've read that the 13 "oversharpens" photos, to the point that it's neither accurate nor pleasing. Is this true in your experience? The reports I read were a couple of years old -- has this been fixed in the interim?

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/38555/are-there-third-party-keyboards-that-have-the-apple-layout
I found this question but it is not my one.
I mean, "**STRICTLY**", Mac layout. The sizes of keys, the paddings between keys, no
Num Lock
, have Fn
, no numbers' area... everything is equal to the Mac keyboards, including MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Apple Wireless Keyboard (but not the USB one).
---- Amendment #1 ----
Sorry for missing this important part. What I'm seeking are **mechanical** ones. I searched "mechanical keyboard Mac layout" and found the question mentioned above but failed in noticing that question was not only talking about mechanical keyboards.

I’m in the enviable position of having a nice wad of cash to spend on a new Mac setup. Since Tensorflow and PyTorch are now both supported by Metal, at least on my 16gb MacBook Air M1 I’m more than tempted by either a basic Mac Studio or a top end 16” MacBook with a minimum of 48Gb Ram and 1Tb SSD with enough left over to add a Mac Studio monitor, mouse and keyboard on top.
So what differences in hardware between the two exist that I should bear in mind to choose between the two beyond the obvious of number of cores? Do I lose anything in performance by gaining portability if I choose the MacBook.

Thunderbolt 2 docks have been quite expensive and they will be obsolete once I purchase the new MacBooks with USB-C ports. I currently use a 2014 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 2 ports, and I want to futureproof my purchase by acquiring a cheaper USB-C dock now.
The cheapest Thunderbolt 2 dock costs around $200 while USB-C docks cost around $30. Being able to use a USB-C dock with older Thunderbolt 2 Macbook Pros would not only be cheaper but also allows me to use the same USB-C dock if I decided to upgrade to a future Macbook.
For that to work I need a Thunderbolt 2 (male) to USB-C female adaptor, after some searching it doesn't seem to exist. Is there a reason why something like this hasn't been made? Or is the USB-C specification designed such that it is impossible? (hence businesses can still continue to sell expensive Thunderbolt 2 docks...)
I will accept an answer that meets the following requirements:
* If there is such an adapter please give a link and some form of evidence that these would have 100% compatibility with USB-C docks.
* If there is no such adapter please explain:
* Is it impossible to produce?
* If not, why hasn't a vendor created one yet? I've explained that its a better financial investment than buying a TB2 dock... surely there's a market for those still using TB2 MBPs wanting to upgrade in the next couple of years. Not only docks but it would open a gateway to cheaper alternatives to those hideously expensive TB2 peripherals.

Recently, I bought a new monitor to use as an external display. I even asked a question about the compatibility on this forum.
Now, I am trying to configure things. Unfortunately, the experience has been a bit annoying so far. Part of the problem seems to be this message from the monitor system :
As text to help further research:
> The screen is not currently set to the recommended resolution. Configure the PC resolution to 2560x1080/60Hz. (The 2560x1080/60HZ resolution may not be supported on some PCs.)
> Current resolution: 1920x1080/60Hz
> Recommended resolution 2560x1080/60Hz
It is especially frustrating because I only have the options below to configure it:
I do have 60Hz. But, I only have
Alternatively, the monitor also offers another option for Aspect Rate called "Original".
On this one, only part of the screen is used. Things do not look stretched out this time:
I do not know much about monitors. And I believe I underestimate the challenge of compatibility.
If my understanding is correct, it seems to be a pure physics problem. The MacBook Air is a light rectangle (close to a square), but the monitor is way more stretched out horizontally. Hence, this incompatibility.
Is my understanding correct? Is there any palliative action I could take for better experience?
;;
UPDATE
Since it was asked by user @DavidAnderson , I am using an adaptor called *Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 DA200* to the USB-C to HDMI.

1920x1080
. There is no 2560x1080
.
As a palliative fix, I tried accessing the settings menu on the LG external monitor device. They present two options: (i) Full Wide and (ii) and Original.
On Full Wide, things look a bit stretched out, horizontally speaking.
See the PrintScreen (not sure it captures the stretched out feeling, hence I will also send a picture from a phone):

About two years ago I updated the original 256gb ssd on the mbp 15" mid 2015. Installed a transcend 855 , 960gb nvme gen 3 x4. In contrast the original have the following specs:
Vendor: Apple
Product: SSD Controller
Physical Interconnect: PCI
Link Width: x4
Link Speed: 8.0 GT/s
Description: AHCI Version 1.30 Supported
Besides the room space the change brings, I'll say perhaps the computer became a little faster. I haven't done any serious measurements so I don't want to overstate how better it became.
However since a few months ago I'm experiencing some failures (one described at https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/430739/macos-system-preferences-crash-close) which seems to be telling ssd needs to be replaced.
After some google around I found these days we have nvme gen 4 (which seems to be even faster), so I thought may be I could install a 2tb nvme gen 4 on mbp. Is this going to work?
Side question: Is it normal to have just about two years of life span on an ssd? I few years ago I noticed ssd on a windows laptop was failing after four years. And I still use a hard disk on a linux laptop which is going over ten years.
Edit: To add DriveDx report, wondering if anything can be said about it.

I like to go code in my backyard but sometimes my macbook gets really really cold. I wrote a python script that basically for loops thousands of times recursively doing multiplication to make the cpu work at full capacity to heat the macbook up quickly.
1. Is this damaging to the computer to put it under such intense stress while cold?
2. Are there better ways to heat up the computer?
3. Is it even bad if the macbook gets too cold?(Canadian temperature...)
Specs.

I need to write mathematics, but I would like to avoid Latex for quick notes that I wish to send to colleagues. So I would like to have somewhere to write with some sort of pen, in such a way that
1. What I write appears on the display of my computer (please note that I don't have an iPad, just a MacBook)
2. It gets saved on my computer when I finish.
These are just quick notes, so no special drawing features are required (on the contrary, the simpler/cheaper the better).
What should I consider? Since I own a MacBook, also writing on the built-in trackpad would be fine, but I've heard that the Inklet app slows down the computer in a very nasty way.
