I've noticed that my screen was slightly strobing when my MacBook is plugged in via HDMI to my LG TV. The issue does not repro when there's lighter colours, and it also doesn't repro on the Mac's internal panel.

I have a MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2018, Radeon Pro 560X) to which I plug 2 external monitors: a LG 32UL950 4K over thunderbolt & an old ASUS full HD over HDMI. The problem is when the ASUS is connected then the LG is only running at 30Hz. When connected alone it's fine at 60Hz. This machine is supposed to support *4* 4K@60Hz screens. Any idea how to fix this? (I can't confirm it but I think this issue started with one of the latest macOS updates, 11.3 or 11.4) EDIT: Display preferences

I am using external monitors with a MacBook Pro M3 running macOS Sequoia 15.3. What determines if I see:- 1) The "Larger Text", "Default", "More Space" display option:- or 2) The screen resolution:- Does anyone know how macOS makes this decision? Is this related to screen resolution and/or connection type?

I have a 2013 MacBook pro with Catalina (10.15.7) and have added 2 external displays, one on hdmi, one with a thunderbolt VGA adapter. All 3 (the builtin LCD and 2 external) are used and not mirrored. When I try to arrange the two external displays side by side above the LCD in the displays settings "arrangement" tab, it refuses to move the third one (whichever I arrange last).

I have a Mac mini which has no display which I connect to it by sharing the screen to my laptop. The Mac mini runs apps which controls my live show's backing tracks, lights and video. The video projector is connected to the mini via HDMI. I would like the mini to still use the Built-in display as the primary, and the projector act like a second display so it can be used for the videos, but allow me to still see the Mini desktop and other apps via the screen share. However, when the projector is connected, the Mac automatically selects it as the primary display, and Built-in Display is gone. Is there a way around this?

I use Ctrl + Cmd + Q to lock the screen. After entering my password, I sometimes see these lines on my external monitor, an MSI G241. Here's what I've tried: - Rebooting my MacBook. - Changing display settings to default. - Visually checking HDMI cables; no damage, and they are completely new. - I've connected this monitor to a Windows PC, and it works fine after the lock screen. - My internal display works fine; I haven't seen any issues with the Mac's graphics, and it's not even hot. This problem is not permanent, most of the time the monitor works correctly. I can't say at what point this problem will appear. To temporarily fix this issue, I close my laptop lid, wait a few seconds, and then the problem resolves itself after I open the laptop. Can you explain what these lines are? And how can I prevent this from happening again?

When I connect an HDMI display to my computer, it uses it as a display. I can't figure out how to use the HDMI cable for audio only and only use my laptop monitor. Is this possible?

Using macOS 12.2.1 on a MacBook Pro M1 while connected to an external monitor breaks sleep mode. On Linux / Windows I expect the sleep mode to power off both my laptop screen and my external monitor by default (plus setting the device into sleep mode). With this Mac, however, either closing the lid or manually selecting "Sleep" while connected via HDMI to the external Monitor prevents the device to actually switch modes. Even more, when closing the lid I can still use the mouse and keyboard on the external display, which is not only annoying but also when in an office can lead to privacy issues. The device is not automatically locked after closing the lid and having the monitor connected. So far the only solutions I've found are: - shutting down the device - disconnecting from the external monitor before closing the lid / going to sleep mode None of them are ideal, so I'm wondering if someone run into the same issue and found a solution. The monitor is a LG 27UK670, and I'm connecting to the right side HDMI port.

I have two Dell P2715Q 27" external monitors I want to connect to my 15" MacBook Pro 11,3 with OSX 10.10.2 ordered around September 2014. I've tried connecting it as follows: note: tb = thunderbolt, dp = displayport, mdp = mini displayport First try --------- - tb 1 -> Dell P2715Q #1 dp in -> Dell P2715Q #1 dp out -> Dell P2715Q #2 mdp in In this case the two Dell screens will only mirror, and OS X does not seem to recognize that there are actually two displays attached. Second try ---------- - thunderbolt 1 -> Dell P2715Q #1 displayport in - thunderbolt 2 -> Dell P2715Q #2 displayport in In this case one screen will go on, but the other remains black and says there is no signal. side note --------- I also have an older 1920x1200 Dell display I want to use via HDMI for a total of 3 external displays, but I need to get an HDMI cable plus the first two screens working first.

I have an Apple Macbook Pro 16 Inch (Touchbar) 2019 w/ AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. I'm running into issues connecting it to this monitor, [PX329](https://pixiogaming.com/products/px329) . If I use DisplayPort(this monitor supports up to version 1.2) then my mouse starts to lag/skip which is really annoying. If I use an HDMI cord, with [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THJGZ9Z) adapter, my external screen goes black about every 20-30 minutes for a second or two and then back to normal. I'm using 2560x1440 resolution on my external monitor w/ 50 Hertz refresh rate(I tried 60, same thing). At this point I'm not sure what I should buy. I'm considering either: 1. I have an M2 MacBook Pro with an issue regarding a docking station. I'll write some specs first so you know what I'm working with. Laptop: - MacBook Pro M2, 16 inch - macOS Sonoma 14.0 Dock: - Lenovo Thinkpad Gen2 Thunderbolt 3 dock - Cable is a Thunderbolt 3 cable Plugged in the dock: - Philips 4K monitor 60 Hz - plugged with HDMI - Iiyama 2K 165 Hz or just 60 Hz idc about the hz - plugged with HDMI - mouse - keyboard When I plug in my Thunderbolt cable, I only get the 2K monitor with a bust up bottom bar, like like horizontal black lines. Second of all my 4K monitor doesn't even pop up in the display settings **or** turn on. When I unplug my 4K monitor HDMI from my dock and plug it in my Mac it works well, but the 2K monitor still has the black lines. My mouse and keyboard seem to work fine, but when I play around for a minute, I seem to be unable to click buttons on my screen (for example, the "About this Mac" top navigation buttons). When I remove the dock everything works fine again, when I plug it back in same thing happens. I came from a Windows 11 laptop where the dock works perfectly.

I am an adult that returned to college, and as I enter grad school I realize my eyesight is going, I can’t see my MacBook anymore (even with glasses) haha. I have a iMac 2010 27 inch running High Sierra, as well as a MacBook 2013 running Big Sur. I have MDP for iMac and MDP for MacBook. However, there is an HDMI working as almost a bridge between the two devices. My iMac and MacBook are trying to go into Target Display Mode, however as it goes to the black screen, instead of mirroring, both screens revert back to their original state. Is it because I am using an HDMI cable as a bridge & it won’t send the signal through that cord? I think I have tried all the f2, cmd fn f2, logged in, logged out, restarted. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you = )

I recently bought a Marantz Cinema 50, but I can’t get sound through its speakers when playing video or music from my MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, Sequoia 15.3.2). Would appreciate any help troubleshooting! Setup - AVR: Marantz Cinema 50 - MacBook: M1 Pro, Sequoia 15.3.2 - Projector: Epson (likely not relevant) Connections - MacBook → (HDMI 2.0) → AVR (HDMI IN 1 or 4) → Expect video on projector & audio via AVR speakers. - AVR → (HDMI OUT Monitor 1 ARC/eARC) → Projector. MacBook Settings - Sound Output: Set to "Marantz 50 (HDMI)" (not AirPlay). AirPlay works fine. - Audio MIDI Setup: 2ch 16-bit 44.1 kHz (tried different settings, no change). Primary Stream is greyed out (Mac doesn’t seem to detect a speaker). Marantz Settings - Input: Set to HDMI (fixed for HDMI 4). - ARC: OFF. - HDMI Audio Out: Set to AVR (not TV). Results - Video works fine on the projector. - Audio issues: - Spotify: Lags & repeats short loops before continuing. - GoPro videos (VLC): Sound is laggy. - YouTube/Netflix: Video doesn’t start unless I switch sound to MacBook speakers. What I’ve Tried - Multiple HDMI cables. - USB-C to HDMI adapter (Apple official). - Tested all HDMI IN ports on AVR. - Reset both devices multiple times. **Problem** My Macbook overheats insanely. After investigating a bit, I found out that the correlation is extremely strong with having it plugged in to an external monitor with the Macbook Pro monitor also active. If I unplug the laptop, or use only the external monitor (i.e. Mac in a 'clamshell' mode), the heating stops within a minute. I managed to use a software (sudo powermetrics --samplers smc |grep -i "CPU die temperature") to measure this: * Indoor temperature: 23C * CPU heat without external monitor: 55C * CPU heat with external monitor + macbook monitor on: 95C (fan turns on) * CPU heat with external monitor, macbook closed: 62C **Details of hardware** - Macbook Pro (16-inch, 2019). 2.3 Ghz 8-Core Intel Core i9, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB - macOS BigSur 11.4 - Monitor: HP E233. 23-inch (1920 x 1080) - Cables connecting: UGREEN USB C Hub HDMI USB C Adapter with 4K HDMI, 3 USB 3.0, SD/TF Card Reader (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07RRPS5NT/) , and then a standard HDMI-cable **Tried fixes that didn't work** - Restart - SMC reset - Never use two monitors (works) **How could I fix this so I can use two monitors also in the future?**

I have a Macbook Air 2017. My goal is to have an optical output capable of 5.1 audio for my home theatre. My series of connections are, mini display port to hdmi and the hdmi connected towards hdmi to optical output and optical connected to my 5.1 home theatre. My midi setup and audio out setting automatically detected the hdmi out and and the hdmi icon appeared in both settings. But in my midi setup, it is showing 8 channels but, volume level of all of them is shown as disabled. All of the channel volume sliders are disabled. When I go for configuring, it shows 5.1 out. But when I tried to test each channels, only left and right are heard. All other channels are silent. When I played a 6 channel audio, it is missing every surround except from left & right. **I tried everything like soundflower, soundflowerbed app, MonitorControl etc. Nothing worked, still hearing only 2 channels.** **Is there any solution for this? I need a 6 channel audio output.**

I have an old DSLR that outputs HDMI. I also have an MBP M1 and a USB-C hub with an HDMI port. Can I output from the DSLR into the hub and and transfer it and capture into the MBP via the USB-C port?

The display itself stays dark the whole time The display works fine with other computers. What can I do to resolve this?

I have recently purchased the PlayStation 2 for playing old games. I saw that MacBook Pro M1 has the HDMI port. So, I was just wondering if I can use the AV to HDMI converter in conjunction with the HDMI cable and connect it to my Macbook. Will it work? I mean will it be displayed on the Macbook Pro's screen/display.
