Does macOS resolution setting affect watching 4k videos on a 27 inch iMac?

I have a MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2018, Radeon Pro 560X) to which I plug 2 external monitors: a LG 32UL950 4K over thunderbolt & an old ASUS full HD over HDMI.
The problem is when the ASUS is connected then the LG is only running at 30Hz.
When connected alone it's fine at 60Hz.
This machine is supposed to support *4* 4K@60Hz screens. Any idea how to fix this?
(I can't confirm it but I think this issue started with one of the latest macOS updates, 11.3 or 11.4)

I am facing a lot of small annoyance with my external display (4k, 27" benq, T3 connection) like :
it wakes up with the wrong resolution, the mouse feels incredibly slow (it looks like the speed is also "scaled") and some application just struggle to display higher resolution (namely jetbrains products).
So, I moved back to the standard resolution… but everything is too big now. I've reduced the zoom in some apps, but the menus remain huge.
So, are there any solutions (apps or whatnot) to either fix the "scaled" display issues… or to keep the standard resolution, but having slightly smaller apps ?
Thanks a ton…

Since i have never had a mac, i borrowed a macbook from a friend to check the os,so i connected it to the monitor.
However, in 4k resolution, everything looks tiny in the UI. Searching the web i saw that i should have some scaled option however i didnt see it.
Changing to 2k everything seems big and little blurry.
It is currently connected using a hdmi->hub->type c to the macbook.
I tried it with opened lid.
Anything that might solve it? Also, can i somehow make sure it will work good with the mac mini m4?
Thank you
**Update:**
So I think that I understood little more about the scaling thing. However, I still dont get something. According to a YouTube video I saw, if I go to system information it should show the monitor resolution + UI looks like (image from the video):
However, in my case its always the same in both. if i choose 2k both resolution and UI looks like = 2k and same goes for 4k. why?

After a quick Google this turned out to be the restrictions. When I try to disable this I get asked for a pass code. Very annoying, as I don't know this pass code. A solution to this seems to be to factory reset the Apple TV, but that too is greyed out.
Does anyone know a way to work around this? As I basically just want to factory reset my Apple TV and start over.

So, I have a MacBook Pro 15” and I recently bought an LG 27” 4K monitor.
When I connected the monitor, system report said that the original resolution is 4K but the picture looks like 1920x1080 (using 4 pixels for 1 displayed pixel) on the screen. The text was too big for me.
I was then able to access scaling options and opted for the option that looks like 1440p with the original resolution of 5k. This seems to give the best image and size for this external monitor.
Now, I want to understand why the image is clear at what looks like 2560 x 1440 on my 4K monitor since the pixel distribution is not a modulus of 0. In my understanding, there is no way to distribute a 5k picture on a 4K monitor and yet get a clear picture. Since 5k is only 1.33 times bigger than 4k horizontally and vertically, how does it render? Is the picture quality worse than I think?

When it is on 1440p, I can play 4K video on VLC without a problem, but on 4K 30fps, the 4K videos are lagging a lot. **Is it possible that the problem is with the 30fps and if I buy a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to be able to get 60fps output on 4K the problem would be solved?** The CPU of this model is 5th generation (intel Core i5 5350u) and I've heard that it does not have HEVC acceleration and that might cause a problem.
Currently on 4K even with scaling from 1440p and HiDPI with BetterDisplay I do not have any problem other than lagging on 4K video playback.

I am using my Macbook Air M1 2020 with a new external 32" 4K monitor I just bought since the file names' character size, or the Chrome bookmark text is too small.
Hence, I noticed I could just use in System->Display a "scaled" resolution in the middle between "Larger text" and "More space" (by default, it was set as "More space").
*It seems that images, videos, and text are ***still in 4K*** (text is just larger ***as*** the resolution ***was*** the one I chose in the middle among the "scaled" resolutions, but it is crisp exactly like it was 4K).*
**Question:** Could you please confirm that the "Lager text" VS "More space" trade-off indeed does not affect the 4k resolution of an external monitor?

Can a Late 2016 MacBook Pro drive a 4K monitor with HDR?
I'm quite tempted by some 4K HDR external monitors that are slated to come to the market soon. Question is - can a Late 2016 MacBook Pro drive 4K HDR monitor at 60Hz? 4K monitors are supported as per Apple doc, but it doesn’t mention HDR at all.

I have a new M2 MacBook Air and a Philips 279P1/27 4k monitor. They don't get along. I use a USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the monitor.
I also have a PC for work and I use the monitor for both. The monitor works great with the PC.
Initially, the Mac did not recognize the monitor. They do connect if I first disconnect the power adapter from the Mac, then connect the Mac to the monitor, then re-connect the power to the Mac. Maybe the Mac needs to try to get powered by the monitor for it to look for a video connection?
Even with that, the display often flickers.
[This article](https://www.howtogeek.com/805459/mac-flickering-external-screen/) offers some tips. The most important thing is probably the power cycling described above. Additionally, the article suggests,
* using a fixed refresh rate
* checking dongles
* checking monitor settings for things like variable refresh rate and black frame insertion
* updating monitor firmware
* using DisplayPort
I'm using a fixed refresh rate and the monitor settings are fine. The monitor does not have upgradable firmware.
1. How do I reduce the flickering?
2. Why does this happen? Based on my [reading](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-m1-external-screen-flickering.2325279/) , it seems that this is a widespread problem with 4k monitors for the past couple of years, possibly tied to a bug in the OS. What's the fundamental issue and is progress on it likely?
I do not know why this doesn't just work right.

Over the last year or so, around 30-40% of the time I've noticed that upon plugging in my M1 Pro MacBook Pro to my dock, the second monitor gets incorrectly identified as a 1440p monitor. Here is the main monitor which is always identified correctly:
And here is the misidentified monitor:
What is the reason for the intermittent monitor misidentification? Is it macOS, or something to do with my "one cable" setup? How do I go about fixing this?

Also, sometimes it goes black for a second or two, and sometimes it shows green lines and plays a strange sound.
My TV only has HDMI but I wonder if I could get 60 Hz with a Thunderbolt 2 cable to HDMI 2.0? Does anyone know why it shows those lines and makes those sounds (which remind me of interference).

I'm aware of the limitations that Apple has set upon the USB-C ports when it comes to 4k60hz (as well as the differences between the capabilities of the left and right ports), and have done quite a bit of research already.
- I can't even attempt to use SwitchResX or solutions like rebooting into Recovery Mode and disabling certain features because this MBP is a work computer and has safety protocols built-in that block me from trying them.
- I'd like to not drop almost $50 on a hack-y dongle like the Accell USB-C to HDMI 2.0 Adapter , which might not even work based on the *very* mixed reviews I've read.
- I've read every answer and reply thread on 2018 MacBook Pro + LG 4k display = no 60hz , and none of the solutions have worked (got my hopes up with the Option+Click "Scaled" menu in the Display System Preferences, but I *still* couldn't select 60hz, just 30 or 24).
- Scaling down to 1440 or even 1080 **still** doesn't give me a 60hz option.
- I tried two different USB-C to HDMI dongles and multiple HDMI 2.0 cables, no change.
- I also tried all 4 ports with those two dongles and HDMI cables.
- Only thing I haven't tried yet is a direct USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) to HDMI cable, an HDMI 2.1 cable, and a non-hub (USB-C to HDMI *only*... no supplemental USB-A or USB-C ports) dongle.
Anybody have any other tips to get this working, or at least new ones that I can try behind company security protocols?
Edit: I'm on MacOS Monterey v12.2.1. I'm including some screenshots of my Display Settings menu.

Things I've tried:
- 2 different brand usbc to displayport cables from amazon, both
advertised as supporting 4K@60hz
- a usbc to HDMI cable advertised as supporting 4K@60Hz
- In monitor menu switching dipsplayport mode to MST: this just gave me
1920x1080@60Hz
- Reset monitor to factory settings
I don't really know where to go from here, any advice?
