How do I make my external Thunderbolt 27" display's brightness match my iMac's brightness?
I'm running my 27" iMac with a 27" Thunderbolt display, and I'm having trouble getting their brightnesses to match. It seems like checking "Automatically adjust brightness" on both causes different results. What's the best way to get these two displays to always have the same brightness?

I have a bit of an odd issue with my 2020 MacBook Air (M1) and Dell U4021QW monitor. When the Mac goes to sleep whilst connected to the monitor, the monitor doesn't go into standby. The screen is dark, as in nothing is being displayed, but the monitor is not sleeping, it's still still on just not having a signal. My work Mac is an older intel MacBook Pro, when connected through the same thunderbolt port in the monitor (and cable) it doesn't have this issue, when the laptop goes to sleep, the Dell monitor goes into standby as expected. I get similar results on my PC workstation, which is connected to monitor via DP. I checked the battery section on both Macs, and all seems similar. Anybody have any clues how to proceed troubleshooting this?

I've got a MBP 2020 with 4 thunderbolt displays and Intel Iris Plus Graphics + an Elgato 3 Thunderbolt Dock. I can't connect two displays (both Dell U2415) via the dock. I've connected one display via mini display to usb-c cable. This one works. I tried to connect the second one using an hdmi cable with an hdmi to usb-c dongle. This one doesn't work. The system doesn't register that monitor at all, like it's not connected. However, if I connect the monitor directly to the second thunderbolt dock of the computer, it works dine. On a side note - I see that the dock isn't fully functional. There are 2 usb-a ports on the dock, but it looks like I can connect only one device to either of them. Tested this using three different docking stations and multiple monitors (same cables/dongles in all situations though). Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated :).

I have a Mac Studio connected to my Apple Studio Display and would like to also connect my Lenovo Legion (17ACH6H w/USB-C 3.2 Gen 2) laptop to the same monitor. I’ve tried using both a USB-C and a Thunderbolt cable, but the Studio Display doesn’t seem to detect the laptop. Is there a specific cable or adapter required to make this work? If anyone has experience with a similar setup, I’d really appreciate a step-by-step (nothing crazy), including the right cables and any necessary settings to enable this connection. Additionally, I have a couple of questions: 1. Is it possible to have both my Mac and PC connected simultaneously, allowing for quick switching between them? Perhaps as separate desktops? 2. Would a KVM switch be a viable solution for this setup? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How to connect two monitors to M1 Mac Mini using a Thunderbolt Dock?

Switching inputs on Monitor 2 shows the different macOS spaces of the same machine (the M1 Mac Mini). If I unplug the USB-C cable going to the Monitor 2 from the Hub, macOS reconfigures itself to route DisplayPort over USB-C to Monitor 1 and HDMI to Monitor 2 (this is the desired state). Plugging USB-C cable going to Monitor 2 back to the OWC Hub after that doesn't change the layout. When the MacBook Pro is plugged into the OWC Hub instead of the M1 Mac Mini, everything works as expected - the system recognizes and uses both monitors as external displays. **Question** How can I configure macOS to always route DisplayPort over USB-C to Monitor 1 and HDMI to Monitor 2?

I am running a 2018 Mac Mini with a 27" Thunderbolt display as the main and a 27" Benq as a 2nd (extended) display. I'm using an Apple TB3 to TB2 adaptor for the Thunderbolt and connecting to the Benq via HDMI. MacOS v14.4.1. Just for the past couple evenings the Thunderbolt display has been working fine all day but during sessions usually right before bed it has been going dark out of nowhere. I don't think it's actually dropping the connection because the dock, menubar and desktop icons are not moving over to the Benq like they do if I were to disconnect the cable from the back of the Mac, but it's definitely all black and the only thing that bings it back is a restart or disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the adaptor or back of the Mac. And even after that, in most cases it has stayed on for a minute or 2 and then goes black again. Mac Fan Control isn't indicating that any internal temps are too high, but the box HAS felt rather hot. I currently have the fan running at full speed constantly and it hasn't gone dark since I made that change (about the past 20 minutes... whereas it was going dark consistently for the 30 minutes before that). Is this a coincidence or does it make sense that the picture would go out if something (video card) got too hot? And in the case of the latter, is this an issue with my Mac's temperature sensing capabilities?

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro and a 2015 Macbook Air. The MBP has a busted screen but works fine otherwise, it has two Thunderbolt 2 ports. The Air is fully functional, it has one Thunderbolt 2 port. I like to make electronic music. I have some stuff on one Mac and some on the other. I have two displays I want to use. One is a older LG Flatron with HDMI input, the other is a 4K UHD smart TV. I also own a 2TB Time Capsule. In my head I'm thinking of a setup with the MBP is always docked, maybe closed if possible, always using the two displays, and a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad controlling it or both. Then I could just add the Air to the docking station whenever I wanted to and share files and monitors. I was thinking I could use one for like VST and plugins and the other for my DAW host software. That way I could get the most computing power possible. I’m not sure if that's possible. For a minute I was looking into DANTE or AVB but then that wouldn't solve my dual display needs. I thought there has to be a dock that I can hook up both laptops to via Thunderbolt 2 and share data at high speed, with 2 HDMI outputs that I can also share between the computers. But so far I'm not finding anything. All I can find are dual monitor switches for mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 3 / USB 3.1 docks with dual display but no dual HDMI. (I don't need to power the screens with HDMI). So, I'm needing some help! I would like the added ports that a dock offers, I would like to quickly file share from laptop to laptop, and i would like to be able to, if possible, share dual external screens for editing and etc. Does anyone know how Ican accomplish this?

I tried connecting two of my Macs and both behave the same way. I tried restarting and that too didn't help. Would appreciate any help/advice. PS: I did try to connect both my Macs using this Thunderbolt cable for data transfer once, and this issue started happening almost after that. I disabled file transfer option just in case, still no luck.

I've currently got my 2018 Mac Mini connected to a 27" Thunderbolt display via Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter and a 27" Benq via HDMI. I have an opportunity to inherit (figuratively speaking) a 2nd Thunderbolt display and am contemplating replacing the Benq with it. My issues: 1. I don't want to have to drop $50 on the adapter. Is the Apple version the only one out there? I've found USB-C to Mini DP adapters for quite cheap but my understanding is that it *has* to be Thunderbolt... mDP alone will not cut it. Is this accurate? 2. As a measure to avoid the $50 hit in #1, can I daisy chain the 2 Thunderbolts? I believe I have a TB2 cable laying around. Otherwise, it looks like I'm stuck with a $30 hit for that... or is there a non-apple version I'm missing?

I was very disappointed to find that **when the monitor is plugged in**, I can't use the SSD. I get the warning: > **Accessory needs more power** Disconnecting other accessories may allow this to work. I suppose that this is a limitation of the M1 Macs, but it pretty much renders one of the Thunderbolt ports useless. Is there any way to use both for what seems like a pretty normal use case (SSD + monitor)?

I have a 2015 MBP (Thunderbolt 2), and I want to output to a new Thunderbolt 3 docking station. The new dock is connected to 2 monitors. Seems like what I need is a male to male Thunderbolt2 to Thunderbolt3 cable. But, from googling around, doesn't seem like such a cable exists. I see USB C to Mini DP male to male. But that's used for new laptops (USB C) to drive older displays (Mini DP). I also see that Apple provides a Thunderbolt 3 to 2 dongle. https://www.apple.com/us_smb_83039/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter Thunderbolt 3 is male, Thunderbolt 2 is female. So I guess I could connect a Thunderbolt 2 cable from may MBP to the dongle. But even then, I'm not sure if that would work. Also, I'm not sure if it'd be driving 1 display or 2. Can anyone help? Thanks

I have an old Apple Thunderbolt Display that I’m using with an M1 MacBook Pro via Apple’s Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. The USB-C connector on the adapter is quite short and so I’d like to extend it. While I’d happily accept a recommendation for a specific USB-C extension cable someone's used in this way, my real question is how one might identify the correct cable. I’ve done some Googling around and ordered two extensions from Amazon that claim to be Thunderbolt 3 and 4 compatible, but neither works in practice. USB-C extension cables in general seem to be a bit of a speciality item (which I get) so none of my reputable dealers sell one which makes me wonder if I'm missing something. Is there a fundamental incompatibility here that makes this impossible?

I've got an OG Apple Thunderbolt Display that I'm connecting to a M1 Max MacBook Pro using the Apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter. It works for the most part, but I'm getting pretty drastic performance problems—display/mouse stutter, apps not responding or taking unusually log to display their contents, failure to keep up with keyboard input—that appear when I plug the display in and disappear when I unplug it. I can say that using a Thunderbolt 2 dock in the middle exhibits the same behavior and I don't see anything surprising in Activity Monitor. Any ideas or solutions to this problem anyone can suggest? Thanks.

I have a MacBook Air M2 that I would like to connect to two Apple Thunderbolt Displays. I know that it is not officially supported, but it seems like using a DisplayLink-compatible dock with the DisplayLink driver should make it possible to connect two non-thunderbolt displays. However, I would like to connect my MacBook Air M2 to two Apple Thunderbolt Displays so it seems like I would need a dock that is both DisplayLink-compatible and has two thunderbolt ports (with display support). Does such a dock exist? Even better, does there exist a solution with daisy-chaining the displays?
