Using Logitec MX Keyboard without Logitech's Options+ app. It works fine, but I can't control backlight on-duration.
There are key-mapping utilities, but I can't find one for backlight control. There is no key for this setting and I don't know of a shortcut, either.
**Can I control backlight on-duration with an app other than Options+?** I don't want to install it.
PS: When/How did functions like these become so locked down?

As soon as I plugin an original Apple cable the iPhone charges again. Why is this and can't I use this Otterbox charger? It has a much longer cable which I like to use and is it even allowed to make you devices be limited to charge only by your own cables.

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/38555/are-there-third-party-keyboards-that-have-the-apple-layout
I found this question but it is not my one.
I mean, "**STRICTLY**", Mac layout. The sizes of keys, the paddings between keys, no
Num Lock
, have Fn
, no numbers' area... everything is equal to the Mac keyboards, including MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Apple Wireless Keyboard (but not the USB one).
---- Amendment #1 ----
Sorry for missing this important part. What I'm seeking are **mechanical** ones. I searched "mechanical keyboard Mac layout" and found the question mentioned above but failed in noticing that question was not only talking about mechanical keyboards.

Can an iMac 5K's Display be overclocked to a higher refresh rate with the right display controller?

I was looking at iMac 5K models and found out that some people have successfully gutted them and turned them into external displays by installing a third-party display driver board, such as this one [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006038403601.html] .
On the product page it mentions that the controller supports either 5K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at up to 120Hz.
**Q: Is it possible to "overclock" an iMac 5k display panel to run at at 144hz@4K?**
I didn't find any results when searching online, the only results about people overclocking mac panels are from pre-2015 models. Would running at a lower resolution have any effect on this other than saturating the DisplayPort bandwidth? It's not like it's a CRT where the resolution can change depending on settings.

Is there currently a simple way to just access/export all data from an iPhone app to a MacBook computer?
I have been using a third part app for 5+ years in which I created a lot of data, mostly audio and video files. Unfortunately, it turns out the app doesn't have any sort of 'export' function and I can't access the data in the iOs Files app or in a simple way via my MacBook. I have not found any way to access the data from this third party app. I've tried iMazing, but it seems that the functionality of iMazing seems to have gotten very limited, correct? It seems to only allow me interact a few dedicated apps.
I've gotten to a point where I don't even care right now whether I can actually extract the data in a usable format. I would be glad if I can just back up the app in some way or another, to re-install at some later point (including the data) and deal with it later.
Is there any way to do any of this? It baffles me that I have so little control over the apps, or even just the data I've created on my iPhone.

I don't think the solutions at csshX not working on Mac OS Big Sur will work because perl5.18
doesn't exist any more. The only versions of perl are 5.30 and 5.34.

Can anyone help me, please? I did uninstall Disk Drill safely but the folder remains, hidden, and I can't search for it. This folder is actually created to save deleted files so you can recover them again.

I researched Apple documentation and believe it's something I installed and not part of the OS.
Does anyone recognize this or know how to sort out which app injects an icon into the menu bar?

Now I need to replace the battery in my iPhone SE 2020, but I want to make sure it’s not a fake and dangerous battery. If I have the battery replaced here and the iPhone does not warn me that it’s a fake battery, is that actually reliable and can I trust on that to not have the battery explode in my face?

Yesterday I have updated my M1 Mac mini from 12.2.1 (or .2) to 12.3.1. I had some work apps opened (vscode, figma, slack, firefox..) so I decided to let the Mac update given that my work day was over.
So I start the update, leaving all of my apps opened (as I always do, I mean, I don't close the apps before an update, the OS will close them when it restarts).
The updater ask me to reboot and I click reboot now. At this point I leave my desk as I know it can take a bit. I return after some minutes and I see that the Mac has finished updating, cool.
I go and try to open Firefox, it starts, but it's stuck, it can't to anything. So I try with vscode, same, crashing. Then I open Slack, crashes. Figma, crashes.
I contacted the support, followed the procedure: created new admin user, no luck, safe mode, same errors, reinstall the OS, same errors. During the last contact I had with Apple they said that might be caused by the apps themselves rather than the OS and that I should contact their support but they will open a ticket.
Also tried to reinstall all of these apps and there is always the same problem. Tried also to download some more apps which are optimised for M1 which I did not had installed when I updated (downloaded Edge, Brave, vscode insiders, opera) and I always see the same behaviour.
The only way of making the apps work is to open them with rosetta.
Suggestions?
Here's a
of the problem
Edit: this is the output I get from
ps -p $(sudo fuser /usr/libexec/rosetta/runtime 2> /dev/null)

There are already several questions here on this site dealing with the error message "$App is damaged and can't be opened". The workaround given (which has worked for me) is to use
xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine
on the affected app package.
The developers of LaTeXDraw , a small open source tool, state that hints about solving this would be welcome. LaTeXDraw shows the problem when installed through their DMG image, as well as through Homebrew. It seems this is a rather old piece of academic software primarily used and developed on Linux, which they just build along for macOS as well, so I would like to help them out.
I thought the "proper" solution to this is just to become a registered developer -- is that correct and sufficient? What is the technical cause of this (very confusingly worded) message, i.e. what would need to be changed in the app package?

As you know, the sound volume of Mac laptops isn't too loud.
I bought Boom , a volume-booster software for Macs, and after some months of using it for listening to music or viewing videos at loud volume, the bass of my MacBook Pro's internal speakers died.
Now the laptop has very feeble sound, no bass at all. Sound through external speakers has not been affected.
Sometimes the bass seems to come and go as if something is loose inside.
I suspect the loud volume achieved with Boom caused vibrations that damaged the speakers.
- Am I right ?
- Is Boom the culprit ?
- Has this happened to anyone ?
