Using an iMac Pro or a MacBook Pro, with either display, gives the 3200x1800 option. This is true with both Monterey and Ventura. The "Show all resolutions" switch does not help. I called a senior advisor at Apple and he was stumped. Is this a hardware limitation of the Air's GPU? Is there any way to get 3200x1800? Can an iMac 5K's Display be overclocked to a higher refresh rate with the right display controller?

On the product page it mentions that the controller supports either 5K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at up to 120Hz. **Q: Is it possible to "overclock" an iMac 5k display panel to run at at 144hz@4K?** I didn't find any results when searching online, the only results about people overclocking mac panels are from pre-2015 models. Would running at a lower resolution have any effect on this other than saturating the DisplayPort bandwidth? It's not like it's a CRT where the resolution can change depending on settings.

Recommendation for a Mac Compatible Display Port switch for a 5K Monitor

I have the following hardware: * 2021 MacBook Pro (16 Inch) Apple M1 Max - Running macOS Monterey * LG Monitor @ 5120x2880 * Samsung Monitor @ 5120x1440 * Answin USB C to DisplayPort, 6FT 8K USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort Cable Connecting each of the monitors to the MBP (two seperate ports) works fine - it drives both 5K monitors without issue. If I unplug the DisplayPort from the Samsung monitor and connect a Windows PC I can drive it at 5K at 240 Hz. However I don't want to keep un-pluging and replugging the DisplayPort connector to switch computers. Therefore my options are to either find a way to use the HDMI on the Samsung monitor to connect to one of the computers or buy a switch for the Display port connection. When I try plugging the Mac in via HDMI the resolution drops to 3840×1080, if I try to use the windows PC via HDMI the frame rate drops and the monitor only has 1 DisplayPort connection. The consensus of the articles I have read is that the MBP can't drive a monitor via HDMI at higher than 4K. Therefore I think I am forced to look for a DisplayPort switch that can handle: * The full 5K resolution. * The 240 Hz refresh rate. * Mac compatible. Therefore my questions are: * What do I need to look for in the switch to ensure the above conditions are met? * Does anyone have experience with a particular switch that they know works? * Is there any way to get this to work via HDMI or is that a non-option? Note: It's just the Samsung Monitor I want to switch between the computers - The LG can stay permanently connected to the Mac.

But then again it's just 1920x1080, there's not much space for productivity. My ideal resolution is that I wish to have the same crisp but on 2560x1440. Does that mean that I need to buy 5k monitor so that it's default for display is 2560? Can Mac Mini M1 16GB even support two 5k display? I'm looking for the most practical/cheapest way to achieve this. Hope somebody can help. Thanks!

E.g. replace the iMac's graphic card or use an eGPU?

Is this a hardware limitation? Or is there a way to get the 3 screens at once.

I have an LG Ultrafine 5K (27MD5KA-B) monitor. I finally wanted to fix the volume issue and just found out that there should be a firmware update that is supposed to be installed through the LG Screen Manager software. I've installed LG Screen Manager and it says that my monitor is up to date with version 3.01.,1.11, 5234,3.00 From what I've gathered, there should be at least version 3.04,1.13,5237,3.04,0.1e I've also tried to find a firmware file to manually download, but all links I could find are dead, e.g.: http://lmu.lge.com/ExternalService/lgscreenmanager/mac/FW/27MD5KA_MP3/MODEL_27MD5KA_SV3.04_CV1.13_HV5237_NV3.04_AV0.1e_20170705.zip http://lmu.lge.com/ExternalService/lgscreenmanager/mac/FW/27MD5KA_MP3/FWLatestVersion.txt The monitor is from January 2017, so it is one of the earliest models that also suffered from the shielding issues (which has been fixed). It's attached to a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" Touchbar, still running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 I would appreciate any hints on how to update the firmware or links to the firmware file. **Update:** I've just poked around LG Screen Manager with Charles Proxy and realized that it tries to fetch FWLatestVersion.txt link above.

I have a 2009 Mac Pro (flashed to 5,1) with a Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 580 8GB GPU I acquired to support Mojave. The configuration has been happily stable since late 2018 and performed as expected with my venerable 30” Apple Cinema Display. However, after a decade of use, the display was showing signs of pixel fatigue, so today I unpacked an LG 34BK95U-W 34" 5K monitor and connected it to the RX 580 via DisplayPort. System Profile - While both the GPU and monitor allegedly support 5120 x 2160 through DisplayPort 1.4, I’m unable to get above 3440 x 1440. - Strangely, I have to set the display to DisplayPort 1.1 to get 3440 x 1440. - With the monitor set to DisplayPort 1.4, the best I can do is 2560 x 1080. So far, I’ve unplugged, plugged, and reseated everything, reset the SMU, and zapped the NVRAM. No joy. Attempts to get support out of Radeon and LG have (predictably) failed, and the problem is so specific I’ve not been able to find anyone in similar straits. Research into DisplayPort, while interesting, hasn’t proved enlightening. I’d really like to understand how I’ve gone wrong. "It all looks good on paper." I can pack the thing up and return it, but I’ll still have to address the issue of needing a new display and wanting (pardon me) a big one.

I'm looking to purchase a new MacBook Pro and a monitor, and I'm currently looking at the 15" MacBook Pro (2018) with the LG UltraFine 5K Display . I'm fully aware that the MacBook Pro and the LG UltraFine 5K Display are compatible with each other, as indicated by this Apple Support page . Having said that I noticed that the 15" MacBook Pro ships with an 87w power supply, whilst the LG UltraFine 5K Display provides up to 85W of charging power via the USB-C input. Does that mean, that if the 15" MacBook Pro was performing some form of heavy computation, such as video rending, it could start to use the additional power requirements from the battery, and thus require the original charging cable to give it sufficient power (obviously at some point the battery will go flat)? I'm probably looking into this far more than what is required, but it does seem strange that the latest 15" MacBook Pro laptops require more power than the "official Apple supported" monitor can provide.

Since my non-retina mac os computers work just fine with more than 5+ charts, I assume Retina resolution is taking too much memory. How do I turn off retina mode and just use 2560x1440? I've tried pressing "option" key in Display preference, but it looks like it's still using retina mode.

I'm trying to find an external screen for my MBP and unfortunately due to macOS/OSX's focus on retina screens, non retina screens (fonts mainly) look pathetically bad, whereas Windows (even launched within OSX via RDC) looks sweet. So the only option is to either go 4k but that means usable resolution would be 1080p or 5k with usable 1440p. Hence I'm wondering if it can drive 5k screens.

**TL;DR** Both 'dual' controls show in OS for brightness, but they both only ever control one of the two monitors. **Basic Summary** When I plug in dual thunderbolt displays, everything appears okay until adjusting brightness > last connected monitor 'steals' both dual brightness controls. Only way to adjust brightness is to disconnect the other and set it on the remaining, and vice versa. Makes it tricky and painful to make brightness adjustments. (especially painful given the cost). **What I've done** Called Apple support they seemed totally lost, and wanted to push me to LG, did usual PRAM and SMC, deleted/adjusted basic colour profiles, then was asked to reinstall OS. All done. Problem remains. Searches coming up totally blank. Tried installing LG's 'screen manager' software, no dice. Tried changing the ports used on the MBP. Sidenote: the screens when brand new had a very different colour 'warmth', with one being very cold, and the other very warm. I've adjusted this with a lot a colour profile adjustments manually, but suspect this wasn't normal, and could be related. Also no ambient light sensor option (but this seems normal for other LG 5k users currently). **Versions:** - 2017 MacBook Pro, 15", 3.1 GHz, i7, 16 GB - macOS 10.13 - Graphics: (2 listed?) 1. Radeon Pro 560 4 GB, 2. Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB - Monitor: 2x Thunderbolt LG UltraFine 5K Display *(software version listed in LG screen manager is 3.04,1.13,5235,3.04,0.1e - not clear if this is the LG screen manager software version or the firmware version. it says 'the software is currently up to date').*
