I'm experiencing an issue where exactly every 60 seconds, the screen briefly dims, then brightens, then beeps. I don't care about the dimming/brightening, but the beeping is maddening. It happens while charging using a new (non-Apple) Magsafe3 connector I bought, connected to a 96W Apple power adaptor. This combo otherwise seems to charge fine. So: can I fix this behaviour? Or at the least, prevent the beeping? It's a 2022 M2 Max Macbook Pro. Ventura 13.6.3 (22G436) EDIT After some research I've discovered: - the screen dimming behaviour can be disabled in settings, "Slightly dim the display on battery" - the beep is called the "Power chime". So now the question is how to disable the power chime. The actual file is at /System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app/Contents/Resources/connect_power.aif but I'm not able to modify/remove it.

I hear on the sound of the MacBook that the Mac is still alive. Now I am questioning myself. -are the display and keyboard light dead and have to be replaced? -is there any protection mode designed by smart apple engineers to protect such a rare situation. By for example a fuse (for backlight/display, I found on YouTube the replacement instructions already. For keyboard I didn’t yet found any) or a software mode? I’m not able to search for any resource to help me solve this. What guides or steps are people using for this situation?

This is not a problem at booting up. For a couple months now I'll be using my laptop when suddenly the screen dims to about 50% of normal. According to the brightness indicator the brightness is all the way up; I can make it dimmer, but not as bright as normal. The dimming isn't super even either, there are small areas of the screen that seem darker/brighter. In the past the problem easily goes away if I close the lid and reopen it... but now it's happening a lot and sometimes going completely black. Is this an easy/cheap fix? I'm traveling and can't do it myself. Is it worth bringing to the Mac store? Thanks!

How to make MacBook Pro's keyboard backlight fade in and out?
I am on a MacBook Pro 13-inch with Big Sur installed in it. I want to know whether there is any third party app or terminal command, which transitions the keyboard backlight from 0 brightness to max brightness and vice versa gradually, like it happens in RGB keyboards. Thank You.

I have a 2009 white MacBook that doesn't seem to be waking from sleep properly. I close the lid at night to put it in sleep mode, and when I open it the next day, the display backlight doesn't turn on – I just get a black screen. I know the computer itself is powered on because I can hear the fans running, and I know it's not in sleep mode because the sleep indicator light turns off when I open the lid. It's exactly as if you lowered the brightness to 0. I tried adjusting the brightness, hitting all sorts of keys, etc. and nothing gets the display to come back – so I've resorted to holding the power key to force it off, then booting it back up. Is there anything I can do, or is this a hardware failure? Surprised as the machine is only 3 years old (though it's my employer's, not mine!). UPDATE: I have an external monitor hooked up to the MacBook, and when the MacBook's display fails to turn back on after waking from sleep, the external monitor also doesn't display anything – just the default "no signal" message that appears when the monitor is on but not plugged into a computer. If this were an issue with the MacBook's internal display cable (as it seemed like it was), would that also prevent the external monitor from displaying anything?

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro running 10.15.3, and I'd like to be able to turn the keyboard backlight off (without simply turning it all the way down) when watching a full-screen video, but allow it to return if any key *other than the spacebar* is pressed. The ultimate goal is to make the keyboard backlight less intrusive when watching a video, and allow pausing and un-pausing of a video without activating the keyboard backlight. However, *if a key other than the spacebar is pressed*, this 'mode' would be cancelled, and everything returned to normal, until the user again chooses to (provisionally) deactivate the keyboard backlight. I can't find any ways to do this in the OS or with any third-party software, including Karabiner (which I don't use, but can't find references to backlight) or through any preference or extension to VLC. The "Turn keyboard backlight off after [...] seconds of activity" setting in Keyboard within System Preferences would need to remain unchecked. enter image description here

My Macbook pro has no backlight (you can see a dim image). I checked the backlight fuse on the logic board and it's burned out. I heard Apple recommends replacing both logic board and display to fix this issue, as the display be shorting out the logic board (so if I replace the logic board alone, the new logic board may get shorted out and damaged by the display again). This way I may just replace the logic board without having to replace the display if it’s healthy. How would one check the display pins for a short-circuit?

The screen on my (desktop, not laptop) iMac is not working .. the backlight only works sporadically. If I hold a flashlight up to the dead screen, I can see the pixels; the video is working, just not the backlight. I've connected a second display (it is mirrored; both show the same desktop), so I can still use the computer. **The interesting thing is that if the computer "sleeps", upon being woken up, the iMac's display works briefly for a fraction of a second, then it goes dark again.** According to a sticker on the back of the panel, it uses CFL compact fluorescent lamps (not LEDs). The inverter is located on the mainboard (underneath the CD drive); the wires are soldered to that board.. the other ends are soldered directly to the CFL lamps.. but there are connectors in the middle of each wire. BTW, the capacitors on the inverter board look OK, I don't see any burn marks, or broken wires, or bad solder connections on that board. **Does this sound like a problem w/ the inverter board, or with the connectors in the middle of the wires that go to the lamps?** EDIT: this is a 2008 iMac 20" 2.66/2x2g/320/wm/wk

I've bought few months ago a MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 13' . As a Linux geek, I'm really happy with this computer, and it usually works fine. Unfortunately, three days ago, I wasn't able to restart it. It stucked without booting when I pressed the power button. I look on Apple website, and there was a procedure that describes how to reset the SMC , and I did that. My computer restarted (yeah), but unfortunately, I had problems with the display backlight (cf pic). So I stop the computer, and did the SMC reset thing one more time. I experienced problem to restart , but for the moment all the backlights issues seem to be solved. backlights I'm now a little bit afraid about the reliability of this computer, and I have lots of question about this SMC I can't answer. - Why does that thing need to be reset? What is it exactly? As a geek, I like to know how my computer works :) - Can we reset it often without problems, or is there a limit on the number of time you can do it without harming the computer? I read differents advises ont he web saying 'go, on do it every week' or 'do it in last resort'. - If the restart problem still occurs, should I send the computer to the customer service for a global checkup? Thank you for your help :) Romain

I was using my MacBook today when suddenly the backlight turned off, right while I was in the middle of using it. I know it was the backlight because: - I have an external display, which remained on, and I could still see my desktop (so the computer hadn't turned off) - The windows that were on the internal display didn't move over to the external display, meaning that the internal display itself was still on, but just not illuminated After some experimentation, I discovered that I could get the backlight to turn back on by holding down F1 (to lower the brightness) until the brightness setting reached 0, then holding F2 (to raise the brightness) until it was back at 100%. It was as if the system didn't "know" that the backlight was off until I manually lowered the brightness to 0, and then it would know to turn it back on when I raised the brightness. However, after doing this, the backlight would only last for a few seconds at 100% and then it would turn off again. Finally, I tried raising the brightness *slowly* from 0, and was able to work my way back up to 100% without it turning off. It's been working since. Is this a hardware failure or a software glitch? I'm running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4) and the issue persisted through a reboot.
