How can i handle to see the VLC playlist beside my main window? Example: I have a bunch of movies which i created a playlist for. But on my 27" iMac, i don't want to see every movie in fullscreen. For that, i want to see my playlist beside my main window. Is there a skin or a workaround to do this?

I'm getting the following error when trying to copy a MKV file to VLC on iPad using the iTunes File Sharing on Windows: > "Movie.mkv" could not be copied because not enough free space is available. The movie is 2.2 GB, and iTunes is reporting that my iPad has 6.75 GB free which should be plenty.

I just got a 4th generation Apple TV and finally I can watch videos on my NAS from Apple TV after I installed VLC. But I have not found a way to load my own subtitle files. VLC for iPAD has this option, so I just want to know if this is available. The only option I found is to download from opensubtitle.org. Thanks

Is there a command that will show what processes are outputting audio? Scenario: I play a movie in VLC. Near the end, I pause it, or even exit VLC. Quiet audio from the *start* of the same movie is now playing this continues for 5-10 minutes, even when I use Force Quit and kill all apps. I use ps aux | grep -i vlc, and likewise for quicktime, and find nothing. The audio continues to play.

My VLC player is stuck in playlist mode, and I can not get it to play the video but I can hear Audio. It doesn't work on any of my videos. But all my quick time files work. My VLC is up to date. It was working earlier today, I made no adjustments then a few hours ago I went to open up a video and I can't get it out of playlist mode to show the video.

Files are shared on LAN from MacOS 10.15.7 Catalina, using Home Sharing. Apple TV is model A1625 (Gen 4 I think), TvOS 17.2. VLC is ver. 3.4.9. It's weird: I can view exactly one video file (.m4v or .mkv) per folder, exactly once. After that I can't view any file in that folder: I select a file, the VLC icon is shown along with a message "Please wait" for about one second, and then I return to the grid view of my episodes. I turned on "Save debug logs on device" but I don't know where or what device they might be on. Any suggestions? **Update** After innumerable reboots of both the ATV and the Mac, and toggling various VLC settings (ultimately not changing anything, though), the thing has decided to work. Permanently? Who knows?!

When I open the vlc(Version 3.0.20 Vetinari (Apple Silicon)) in macOS 13.3.1, I did not found the tools menu, does the vlc did not contains tools menu in macOS? how to found the tools menu? should I enable it by myself? I have tried to enable it like this: still could not found the menu.

I noticed that if I have some background music on iTunes and I start playing a VLC video, iTunes automatically stops the music. Although this can be a very useful thing, I would prefer to have control of it, for example in my case I would like to keep listening the background music when I watch a non-music video. Is there an option in iTunes to disable pausing? I tried to look at the iTunes options but I didn't find any, perhaps it is a setting which cannot be changed?

I copied a couple dozen MP3s to an iPhone through iTunes. To play them I used VLC however VLC does *not* play the next song. How do I have VLC play all the music on the device without having to constantly pick up the phone, turn the screen on and manually tell it to play the next song?

Is there any way one can make it a quick action using VLC and Automator?

as a "switcher" I have discovered one functionally that I like in Windows and I don't see in Mac. I want to play all the media files in a folder with VLC with the right click and "Play all" but in this case I need to first open VLC, then click in "Open" and then browse through the folders to finally play the files. Is there any way to play a entire folder with only the right button? Thanks in advance, best regards.

I am trying to set up streaming from my Mac running on Ventura on the VLC app on a Google TV stick. I followed the instructions to set up smb file sharing from here from the user iPatch: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/315050/streaming-media-from-mac-to-vlc-for-android/317474#317474 I can access the folders and see the files using the limited access profile that was created but whenever I try to open a file, I get asked for authentication again and the same user/password that managed to access the folders does not work anymore. However, it works only when I enter the user/password of my admin profile. This does not seem ideal from a security perspective. Is there anything I missed to get it working on the limited access profile?

From time to time, I may airdrop a video file to one of my iphones. Then I use the following procedure to get the video file viewable with the VLC app. 1. Navigate to the video file I have just airdropped to the iPhone, in the Photos app. 2. Select it. 3. Press the "share/action" button (the one with the up arrow), to get a range of action choices as well as apps that can open the file. 4. Look for something like "Save to Files" with the Files app icon, and tap on it. 5. Select "On My Phone" as the location to add the item (other choices may includ iCloud Drive, Google Drive, etc.). 6. After I do that, I am able to use the VLC app, select the file and open/play it. 7. I may delete the original video file from the Photos app. The question I'm asking, is, on at least one iPhoneX, there is no option to "Save to Files", even though I have the Files app visible in my home screen. So I can't figure out how to do step 4, and cannot use VLC to open/play such files, on just this iPhoneX. Any idea why this is so? Is there a way to configure some setting somewhere to make "Save to Files" become an option on this iPhoneX? I looked in Settings, and can't find something in Files app settings. Navigating around the Files app also didn't help me to find such a setting. Here's an example from an iPhone6 on iOS 12.1.4 (16D57). Due to privacy concerns, I am only attaching the lower half of the screen capture.

If I ask Google, I get a solution for Windows (Tools > Effects > Transform). After some searching, I've found an equivalent on Mac: Preferences > Show all > Video > Filters > Rotate or Transformation. However, neither the rotate nor the transformation filters work for me, the video continues playing as it was (in my case 90 degrees rotated). Any idea what I might be doing incorrectly? Do I maybe need to restart VLC or to reload the video after applying the filter? I have already found checkboxes under Filters, but they don't seem to make any difference.

I have some .wmv video files I want to play on my ipad. I had installed VLC player and it was playing them earlier. Recently, it seems to have stopped working. I even paid for and installed Azul player. Worked perfectly first time and since then, same behavior as VLC. This is what I do: 1) Go to "Files" app and find the .wmv file. 2) Tapping on it brings up a window and on the top right there is an "Open in Azul" option. There is also an icon with a square and arrow pointing out of it. I can press that and choose VLC too. 3) When I choose VLC or Azul to play the file this way, the VLC or Azul window pops up and it says "empty media library". The video doesn't play. The annoying part is that it used to play some times in the past. Now, it just stopped playing altogether. What can I do to make these files play? They play just fine on my Android phone in VLC. ________________ EDIT: I just realized that this behavior applies to all videos, not just .wmv files. If I try to open any video in VLC or Azul via the Files app ("open with"), it just opens VLC or Azul with the message "Empty Media library". Also, I'm trying to play these files directly from a thumb drive connected via USB-C. If I copy them locally to the VLC folder, everything works.

I'm trying to play videos as wallpaper with VLC. Countless hits on Google show preferences dialog boxes that don't match what I have. Thinking of marking this as Duplicate? Please be very careful, there are a LOT of old, obsolete posts on the web. Just because you find the same question, doesn't mean the answer is still valid. I think I also may need to enable directX output, but none of the screenshots from Google match my Preferences for doing that either. I'm running the latest MacOS Ventura 13.0 on an Intel iMac from 2017 VLC, I don't see a version, but I just downloaded it (2/19/2023) Context: What I'm really trying to do is use a webcam as a live wallpaper. All the solutions I've found online or in the App Store don't work. I'd like to also ask if anybody can suggest an alternative tool for doing this, but I think getting specific software recommendations isn't OK on here? I already found how to view from a webcam in VLC, so that half of the equation is solved.

When watching a MKV file from the web in VLC, the title bar (see "#1" in image below) seems to be pulled from metadata, not the filename. If you open the “Get Info” panel in VLC, you can change the title (“#2”) and then click “Save Metadata” (“#3”), but when the file is re-opened, the old information is shown. I have not found any other Mac apps which can edit MKV metadata. Several offer to edit mp4 metadata, but that isn’t what I need.

I just want to click videos and have them play, not have to close this annoying main menu screen everytime, I googled, checked settings, is it not possible?
