Is there any way to customise the right click mouse menu that pops up over a highlighted word or phrase? I normally use Firefox, occasionally Safari or Brave. Normally DuckDuckGo to search, occasionally Google. But if I highlight something, for example in an iMessage, and right click I'll always get "Search Google for ...." if search is set to Google in Safari. Or "Search DuckDuckGo for .... " if that's how Safari is set. So at the very least I'd like two options available - for two different search engines as in "Search Google for ...."/"Search DuckDuckGo for .... ". Valhalla would be the ability to select the browser too. Is it possible?

Is there a way to create a shortcut so that I can display the clock differently? I would like to have the option for the menu bar to show only the analog clock without the date or the day of the week: > System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar > Clock Menu Bar > Time Options: > Digital And I would like to be able to switch to: System Preferences > Dock & Menu Bar > Clock Menu Bar > Date Options: Show the day of the week Show the date Time Options: Digital I tried to create a shortcut by going to > System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts However, I was not successful with figuring out what I need to change. For an App, I chose System Preferences, but choosing a shortcut for "Show the day of the week" did not work. I tried other ideas, but so far no luck. Any suggestions?

In Windows, one can hit Shift+F10 to access the "Context Menu." But a similar keyboard action doesn't seem possible on Mac. One potential application... When I make a spelling error in a document, Lion gives me the option to correct the error by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking, two-finger tapping, etc) on the misspelled word and bringing up the context menu. How can I open this menu from the keyboard? And is it possible to access the Context Menu from a Mac keyboard?

I want to unset the Cmd+M shortcut but I can't seem to find it. I've checked System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts but no luck there. I've even tried running defaults write -g NSUserKeyEquivalents -dict-add 'Minimize' '\0' to no avail.

I am using an iPhone 16 Plus - iOS 18.2.1 . I need the context menu Translate at the second position after 'Copy'?

We have ⌘B to bold, ⌘I to italicise, ⌘U to underline, but we don't (as far as I can tell) have a shortcut to strikethrough selected text in **any** OS X rich editor. I added a keyboard shortcut into System Preferences, but that way doesn't work very consistently. I also tried using TextExpander, but it doesn't support rich text formatting. Has anyone come up with a way to do this?

When I right-click certain files in the find and hover over Open With, the submenu that appears with suggested applications contains many versions of several applications. How can I remove these extraneous menu options?

Does OS X have a Windows Shift + F10 equivalent? I need a keyboard shortcut to open the context menu without a mouse.

Is there any way I can make it so one specific app always shows up in the "Open With" menu, in addition to all of the default options? I want to be able to right-click on a file, and in addition to seeing all of the normal apps that open it, I also want to be able to choose something like BBEdit, so I can also view the raw code. Maybe the approach should be reversed, is there a way I can tell the system that BBEdit is a valid app to open *every* file type? This would be a very handy, time-saving mod.

For whatever reason, the "Open With" context menu in Finder is **always** listing every app four times (exactly). I've also used Onyx.app to clear user and system caches, but I'm still left with four repetitions of each app under the "Open With" service. I have restarted the system a few times just to be sure it was not some temporary corruption of the list. I'm running OS X 10.6.6 on a 2011 17" MacBook Pro with a recent fresh install of OS X (i.e. I didn't use Migration Assistant.app or a Time Machine backup). - no external or network drives mounted (including any time machine destinations) - Same list of duplicate apps if I create a new user account How can I fix this so one app shows?

macOS provides "Compress" in the Finder's contextual menu. I use it a lot to create a quick archive of a file before I edit and test the new results. I keep several archives of a file around until I am sure I can delete them. But the first time I compress a file it has no number added to it. Then the second time the number 2 gets added. But this means the files do not sort properly in the Finder. I know this is not a huge issue, but is there some command line action to force the Archive utility to add "1" the first time I compress a file?

In Finder app, I can control-click on an image, and in the resultant contextual menu, I can select “Quick Actions” and then “Convert Image”. How can I create a keyboard shortcut to accomplish this, rather than having to mouse the trackpad around the popup menus? I have already looked through System Settings, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, and all submenus there, to see if one already exists. to change my default web browser to Firefox. However, wherever I select a word and use the contextual menu "Search With DuckDuckGo", it does not seem to respect this, and insists on opening Safari.app instead. How can I get Preview.app, Mail.app, and other Apple-supplied applications to use Firefox instead of Safari?

In recent versions of macOS (14.x / Sonoma at least), when an app is hidden, all its currently open windows are also hidden in its Dock menu… except those that are currently minimized in the Dock. What’s the logic behind this “feature”? Why would I want hidden windows to be hidden in the Dock menu as well? More precisely: why would I **not** want to be able to access a specific window directly through its parent app’s Dock menu when the app happens to be hidden? I don't hide apps because I don't want to be able to access their windows. I (temporarily) hide apps because their windows are sometimes hiding my view of other windows. And most important: is there a way to turn this behaviour off?

I've got quite a list of installed application. The result is there are many applications bloating the 'open with' menu. Is there a way to exclude applications from the 'open with' menu? If it's possible to exclude applications from both certain file types and from all file types, that would be great.

Is there ANY way -- either from Apple or via third party utility software -- to enable the built-in TrackPad on a MacBook Pro laptop to do a real "right-click drag" function? Note I'm asking for right-dragging NOT "right clicking" -- this is where, under Windows, you click the right mouse button while pointing at something, HOLD DOWN the right mouse button and DRAG the object somewhere, THEN let the right mouse button go, and usually a menu pops up at that point, to allow you to choose what you want to do with the thing you're dragging (a file or icon or whatever). This function, right-click dragging, is actually quite useful and a real time-saver that my fingers muscle-memory is pretty much coded to do A LOT, while I'm working in several different software products under Windows. Moving to a MacBook (with Windows running in emulation, via VirtualBox) has a lot of great benefits for me, BUT having to give up right-dragging is kind of almost turning into a total deal-breaker for this effort, to move to a MacBook. Also I know I could just plug in a mouse, but really would prefer to get this working with the great Apple TrackPad IF at all possible!! The trackpad is an amazing piece of tech and I cannot believe that I'm really the first person to notice this HUGE oversight of the missing right-drag functionality. I'd have thought this would have been fixed already AGES ago, what with Apple's otherwise stellar support of Windows on Mac hardware. I realize it's not "Mac Like" to do this, but I don't want it for OSX, I only want it to work for WINDOWS. (Shouldn't Windows running on Mac still work in a "Windows-Like" way, IF Apple's goal is to really fully support running Windows on Apple hardware?) My goal is to have both OS running side by side (not via Boot Camp, I want the Win setup to be virtualized and keep it a finger flick away, on it's own Spaces desktop) so that I can keep using all my old Win software while moving into the Mac world in the future. Best of both worlds... in theory. I've already enabled lower-right TrackPad corner click as right-click, but it doesn't work for this right-click-dragging. Any clicking automatically finishes when you click, it doesn't appear to support HOLDING DOWN the click, so you cannot DRAG before letting the right-click back UP again. Again, this all DOES apparently work fine IF you have an external, two-button mouse connected. So it shouldn't really be impossible, it just needs the software to better understand what's being done with the TrackPad! I'd be happy even if some alternative "gesture" could be defined for this, on the Mac's TrackPad. I've looked at a couple apps so far (Better Touch Tool, etc) but nothing yet seems to work. Seems like the issue (as noted above) must be something to do with software understanding of the "holding down" of the right-click. Also does anyone know if maybe this has been solved in either of the commercial VM programs (Parallels or VMware)? Rather than using the free VirtualBox, I'd be willing to buy something to get this functionality working correctly on Windows the way I want it to work...
