I have an Xbox wireless controller connected via Bluetooth and a DualShock 4 controller connected via a USB cable that I'm using on my Intel mac running macOS 13.6.5. The system recognizes both controllers, and I tried remapping its buttons in the Game Controllers system settings by creating a profile for it that applies to all games and assigning it to the controller, but it has absolutely no effect at all. I've tested in several games at this point. Is this feature just broken? Or is there something subtle I'm doing wrong?

If a game has a text box, the white-on-blue language marker will show up there moments before the jump out of the game. Making any action in the in-game text box will stop the jump (until the marker shows up again after some period). These automatic jumps out of the game are more probable if the user has manually done the jump themselves in a session. What feature is this and how can it be disabled?

A Mac does a lot of things well, yet gaming might be sometimes a bit finicky, due to developer support. One example is the games on Steam that don't natively support Retina. They start up, and the pixels are just doubled. I am thankful it uses nearest neighbor, rather than linear interpolation or other such methods. Still, this is not quite what I'd like to see. Games either scale the UI automatically or have UI scale settings, so doubling the resolution would not be any issue visibility-wise. What is an issue is changing the display resolution every time, be it from the settings, or via some third-party app. The cursor becomes smaller and moves at a different speed and UI elements outside the app become smaller as well, which is to be expected, but not desired. What I am looking for is if there is a way to make individual apps work unscaled, basically show them as if they were Retina-ready, equivalent to turning scaling off on Windows by checking that “let the app do the scaling” box on right-click. I hope that there is maybe a .plist or a terminal command I can run to make any arbitrary .app behave like that. Or maybe a Steam launch argument, which I doubt. Or even some third-party app that can trick applications into believing the display has a different resolution. Games that come to mind are Terraria, Besiege and Ancient Aliens (the weird History Channel game), but I am sure more of them suffer from this issue. Edit: I have found an app called Retinizer. It is very old, and the original website no longer exists, but there is a mirror on CNET and it works just fine... for regular GUI apps, but not for games.

My 8bitdo SN30 has a "home" button on the lower right hand side. I only ever hit this button by accident when gaming on my mac, and it opens some weird sub-folder of the never-used Launchpad app, and I can then navigate the UI to open apps that the mac thinks is a "game". Functionally what this means is that it is a shortcut to launch "Chess" randomly in the middle of other games. an arrow pointing to the button Note: I do **not** want to remap any other controller buttons. Key remapping apps like Karabiner Elements seem to mess up the controller and make it think it's a mouse or a keyboard and require a ton of reworking to make it even marginally functional in games, and even then the game menus will show the keyboard keys it's mapped to rather than actual controller instructions. I just want to disable the Home button and leave everything else the same. Also, [this answer](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/440487/ds4-controller-triggers-macos-actions) is no longer relevant on Ventura; the home button remap was removed from System Settings, although I can still remap the Share button. Is it possible to totally stop this button from being recognized or performing any action by macOS?

I noticed that some old AppStore games, released back in 2010-2015 years, have some problems with music playing on iOS 10 at least. I think, it's usually 32bit games (some games supports 64bit). It happens on iOS 10 (tested on iPad 4), but everything is okay on iOS 8 and 15, for example. The problem is game runs like all music effects is turned off, but settings in-game doesn't say it. Sound effects working okay, the problems with music usually. I experienced such problems with several old games, like "Where's My Mickey?" (Disney Mobile Games) and "Supermarket Mania HD" (G5 Games). I don't have any idea how to fix it, games are playable, but without music it's so strange. I'm not a programmer or reverse engineer. It means that I just should deal with it, and that's all? Without digging in executable file of the game it won't work anyway? I'm not the developer of app, I just have old iPad with Jailbreak, so I can dig in game files. The games are so old that already deleted from AppStore, developers stopped any support and I can't contact them in any way. Thanks for advices!

I am still wondering if there's a big archive of all and old IPA files that was on AppStore long years ago. Because most of 32bit games is deleted from AppStore after iOS 10-11 release. I saved some of them from my purchases sections, but not all of them is available for download from there. I don't understand why. Isn't it possible to "catch" Apple server link, where it stores all IPA versions of games for certain iOS versions? It would be great, because current ways to install older version of apps (or deleted apps even) are so difficult. That's sad, because there are ton of various iOS games that lost forever due to Apple strict applications rules etc, due to 64bit games later. I don't have many apps in my purchases list, and of course I can extract them, but I can't decrypt them, I don't understand how to do it, to share it with anyone. Thanks! P.S. Some games included inapp purchases. Because of games being so, so old, now server doesn't work at all, and you can't buy anything, because server not responding, and Apple server too. I don't know also, how to bypass it to unlock content.

For years now I have known that, when playing Rimworld on my computer, the in-game cursor will switch to the OS's cursor for no apparent reason. I had thought this was a bug exclusive to Rimworld and left it at that, but I have just found the same thing happening in a completely different game (Victoria 3). Here are pictures of what I mean (in Victoria 3): In-game cursor OS cursor In case it is not clear in the images (unfortunately I had to take those pictures with my phone, as the screenshot function on Mac seems to add the cursor 'in post'), the in-game cursor is actually larger than the OS's cursor, which means it is not a bleed-through or layer issue. That is also the case in Rimworld. As far as I am aware, the games have almost nothing in common: Victoria 3 is ARM-native, Rimworld runs through Rosetta; Victoria 3 uses on the Clausewitz engine, Rimworld uses Unity; the devs are entirely separate, etc. Basically, there is no overlap which might suggest that it is a game-specific problem. The only other possibilities are that it is an OS or Steam related bug. I have not been able to find any other mention of this happening to other people; however, that could be because searching for questions involving 'default cursors' mostly leads to results about changing the default cursor design or people having issues with jittery cursors. I am entirely at a loss about what the problem might be. Has anyone else come across this issue before? If so, does anyone have any idea what might cause this, or how I might stop it from happening?

The last few times I've tried playing multiplayer games on my M1 Mac, it has not worked. Joystick input will trigger a single input, but not held input. Characters will take a single step, then stop. This has happened in multiple different games. It is known that controllers can take a bit to work with macOS, issues are reported everywhere, with tons of "solutions" buried inside long Steam / Reddit threads. I've tried a bunch, none have worked. I'd like to move the discussion over to this platform because it's much better at yielding actual solutions. Things I've tried include: - enable / disable Steam overlay / input stuff - adding every program / app to Security -> Bluetooth, Security -> Accessibility I've heard this all has something to do with an Apple security update, but it supposedly happened back in 2020 and things *should* be working by now (2023). **Has anyone found a bullet proof way to get multiple controllers to connect to Apple Silicon Macs?** I have DualShocks, but I'd really love to have a reliable solution that makes it so any controller just works. EDIT: Found more info. Upon searching deeper, I've found that the best solution people have is to use different types of controllers. It's been an issue for a long time now, and (from everything I've read) there were no comments anywhere of a person being able to connect multiple of the same type of controller and have it work. My specific use case was local co-op. Further testing shows single-player is just fine. On an M1 Pro with OS 14.0, games tested include "Castle Crashers," "Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time," and "Bro Force"

I just bought myself a 14" MacBook Pro (M1 Pro), which I use as my personal computer, including for casually playing League of Legends (a popular MOBA game). I am connected to an external display (LG UltraFine 4K 24MD4KL-B) and some external peripherals (mouse, keyboard). League of Legends runs via Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon macs, and runs perfectly fine on the built-in display. I run into some issues, however, when connecting my external display: input lag, screen stutter/flaky pixels/glitchy display (I can provide a video to illustrate). The weird thing is, disconnecting and reconnecting the thunderbolt cable once in-game solves the issue: display becomes pristine, there's no discernible input lag, everything works perfectly. However, this workaround causes the OS to malfunction post-game: application switching no longer works, and subsequent games load into a black screen. A restart solves the issue (but it means I have to restart my machine after every game). This is kind of a frustrating issue, so I wonder if anyone has faced a similar problem or knows of a potential fix? Also, I don't know which part of the chain is to blame in this: the game itself? macOS Monterey? Rosetta 2? I want to push for an investigation, but I don't want to go barking up the wrong tree. Full specs: - 2021 14" MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, 16GB, 1TB) - LG UltraFine 4K 24MD4KL-B - External peripherals - macOS Monterey 12.0.1 (21A559) Thanks in advance for any help!

I've noticed a lot that when I'm playing games like Minecraft, or scrolling through a page in my browser, it randomly starts 'jittering' or lagging. In Minecraft, the F3 menu exists. It tells me my game is running at 60 FPS, so there shouldn't be this weird jitter. I'm using an M1 MacBook Pro. It's not the refresh rate, because when I open FrameMeter (from Quartz Debug), the gauge is at 40 FPS even though the game reports 60 FPS? No matter if I look at the ground or disconnect from the server I'm in, macOS still limits it. This happens on my browser (Brave Browser) and on other apps like Finder, Mail, Steam, MultiMC, Discord, Chrome, Firefox, IntelliJ IDEA, etc. As I'm editing this question to add this paragraph in, FrameMeter gauge is going from 24 FPS to 32 FPS when I type and then going back down when I'm not. So, **my question is**, how do I stop macOS from automatically limiting framerate/refresh rate for apps? gauge pointing towards 40
