VMware Fusion on an old MacBook 7.1 2010 with OCLP Sequoia 15.5 (Intel chip)

Which version should work on this machine? I've tried 10.1.3 and 13.5.2 and both refuse to work. There is a prompt saying I have an unsupported CPU on both versions. On 13.5.2 when I try starting up the VM it just says "failed to power on virtual machine" and so on, without any logs anywhere. On 10.1.3 it says "Unable to retrieve kernel symbols. Failed to initialise monitor device." I ran first help on my tom and there were no mistakes. What should I do? I need to run Windows XP on this machine by any means, I have another thread in which I describe my issues with Virtualbox which was working fine (6.1 version) on this very machine with Sonoma installed. Now that I've upgraded to Sequoia I can't seem to make any VM to work for me. Although, I haven't tried VMware Fusion on the Sonoma because I thought it's tied to Metal rendering only (which it isn't) The chip belongs to the Penryn family as far as I understand, doesn't it mean that 10.x versions should work on it?

I'm running a MacOS VM (VMWare Fusion) on a MacOS host. The guest has a VM-assigned NAT IP address. Both guest and host on MacOS 15.2 (Sequoia). I'm encountering a strange issue: I can ping, nc, or ssh from the host to the guest, but Homebrew telnet as well as some apps based on the go network stack return no route to host. For example, the following works fine from the host to the guest:
# nc -zv guest-ip-address 1234
Connection to guest-ip-address port 1234 [tcp/search-agent] succeeded!
traceroute from the host to the guest-ip-address also succeeds. But the following fails:
# telnet guest-ip-address 1234
telnet: connect to address guest-ip-address: No route to host
I don't have firewall enabled and there is nothing in Settings-->Privacy Security-->Local Networking that is not already allowed. Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot?

**Epilogue:** I have a cellular 5g connection with unlimited data(no cap) provided I use it only on my smartphone, if I use wifi hotspot to connect with my mac then the phone switches to 4g and a daily data cap of 2 GB is applied. Now I tried USB tethering from my android(Redmi note 9 pro) to my mac (MBA M3, 16/512, Sequoia 15.3) but could not get it working. However when I tried to do the usb tethering with my VM running it gave me an option to connect my phone to windows and hence I was able to use USB Tethering to my Windows VM inside my host mac machine to use this blazingly fast 5g without data cap. **Issue:** Now I want to use this fast internet from my windows 11 VM in VMWare fusion to my host machine mac. I am unable to find any relevant method to connect the two in a way I can share their internet. Please help me find a way to share internet between the two things.

I'm using VMware Horizon Client Version 2406.1, Build 8.13.1 (11490701655) on a M2 Mac Studio connecting to a Windows 10 workstation. In single monitor mode it works fine, but when using two or all three of my monitors, the mouse inconsistently get's stuck. I know there is a keyboard solution that will 'un-stick' it in the moment. But it just gets stuck again right away. Giving a quick long movement with the mouse also fixes it temporarily. This quick movement causes the mouse to reappear on another monitor. I've tried switching the connection from VMware Blast to PCoIP and don't see any difference. Has anyone found a way fix this permanently and allow for multiple monitors without mouse issues?

I tried to find a solution but I could not find. There are some advanced, non-free solutions by vmware for accessing virtual machines over the cloud (VirtualHorizon). Anyone have any clue about Apps that allow me open a virtual machine file from my iPad? P.S. this is not a question for me exactly. I am trying to help someone who can not afford a PC to use Windows/Office for some homework in their iPad.

An example of what should be there. When trying to install VMWare in MacOS Catalina, under security and privacy system preferences and then general, I do not see a way to allow what it needs to work properly. Even when I unlock the system preferences, it does not give me an option to allow in order to complete the setup. I also recently tried installing parallels desktop, which requires the same procedure in system preferences, and I was not able to get that working properly either because the allow button is not there. Anyone know why this might be? Thanks so much for the help!

I own a 21.5-inch, late 2013 iMac (with a couple hardware upgrades, namely RAM and hard drive) running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (this is the latest macOS compatible with my specs). I'd like to run macOS Catalina 10.15.7 inside a virtual machine on my iMac. I'd like to use VirtualBox as the virtual machine because, unlike Parallels VirtualBox is cross-platform and free-of-charge, and unlike VMWare Fusion I am actually able to find VirtualBox online and download it. (Ever since VMWare has been subsumed by Broadcom, it has become very difficult to find a downloadable link to VMWare Fusion.) As a first step, I followed the link under the *Use the App Store* title on [this page](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/102662) in order to download the official Catalina installer. Then, thanks to [this answer](https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/278338/136773) , I ran the script in [this project](https://github.com/rtrouton/create_macos_vm_install_dmg) in order to convert Catalina's installation file into a bootable ISO file. I then followed the instructions under the *How to install macOS in VirtualBox* heading from [this page](https://www.xda-developers.com/how-install-macos-virtualbox/) to set up a virtual machine in my VirtualBox instance (v. 7.0.20). I used the following configurations: 1) 8192 MB memory size, 2) 64 GB drive size, 3) 2 processors. I followed all the steps up to and including step 15. I didn't know what do in step 16, and I also was a little apprehensive to follow it, because I didn't understand what it did. So instead of following step 16, I closed the VirtualBox instance, and then reopened it, and hit the Start button to start the Catalina virtual machine. The following screen of text messages appeared, and that's it. Nothing more happened. Installing Catalina in a new VirtualBox virtual machine How can I proceed from here? How can I install macOS Cataline in VirtualBox? Would it be easier to install it in VMWare Fusion? If so, where can VMWare Fusion be downloaded from? There is a post similar to this one [here](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/382303/136773) , but it's 4.5 years old, and I'm unable to figure out from the answers what I'm supposed to do.

I have a 2020 Intel iMac running 14.5 Sonoma with 3 physical Ethernet interfaces, each attached to a switch port on different VLANs (12, 51, and 203). I have a virtual lab set up in VMware Workstation for testing in which all the "server" VMs are running on VLAN 51, and the "workstation" VMs are set up on VLAN 203. All the routes, VLANs, and firewall rules are set up properly on the infrastructure side. Running Windows in BootCamp, this setup works fine. The VMs configured to run on each NIC can all access other VMs on the same VLAN, and the Internet, but cannot talk across networks or to my host computer (which is the intended design). I accomplished this by configuring VLAN tagging in each NIC's device properties in Windows, and bridging the VMs to whichever NIC I want them to be on. On the MacOS side however, the VLANs don't work. I created virtual interfaces for each VLAN, but VMs bridged to them have can only communicate with each other on their respective VLANs. I can't ping the router or access the Internet. How can I get this setup to work in MacOS? I'd rather not have to use BootCamp to work with these VMs.

I installed VMWare Tools and they appear to be working because I now have network access inside the VM and I can adjust the resolution. However, there is no option for cross-OS cut-and-paste-- not in the **Edit** menu of VMWare Fusion, and not from any keyboard shortcuts I can find. How do I enable this feature (or, if it is not available, where are the docs that say it is unsupported)?

The problem I'm having is that the resolution is very bad when I use to this Win 10 in my VM. The texts are blurry. My Mac's resolution is 2880*1800 (Intel Iris Pro graphics) and i thought if i change my Windows resolution to the same values, it would fix it. But I can't even see that kind of resolution in my Windows display options. enter image description here You can see the blurriness in the text Identity and Detect. (I tried different resolutions and ended up with the setting 1440*900. I also adjusted the text size to be 125%) How do I fix my resolution issue so that my Windows 10 is also sharp. Is it a problem where Windows 10 is not capable of supporting Retina displays ? Here is another screenshot of what I am having. The left side is chrome in my Mac and right side is Chrome in my Windows 10. enter image description here

First thing to note is that although this example was run on an installation image in a fresh vm, essentially the same thing happens in a Windows VM or a macOS VM -- ipv6 doesn't work! Back to the story: I ping www.ibm.com, both with ping (ipv4) and ping6 (ipv6) while at the host -- works great, and quickly. In the guest vm, the ping still works, and quickly, but the ping6 just times out. Why did I use explicit addresses on the guest? The last experiment shows that on the guest, www.ibm.com will resolve to an ipv6 address (DNS lookup working, right?) but then can't be reached 🧐. Note also that scutil (on the Mac) or cat /etc/resolv.conf (on the guest) both show that same addresses, ipv4 and ipv6, for dsldevice.attlocal.net, my router. Perhaps there is some configuration magic in the .vmx file or something similar that could make ipv6 just work, or if not, make ipv6 fail in a way that things don't get confused, and just use ipv4 like the Before Times.

Likewise, if we'd like to install Windows 10 or 11 on it, does that mean we need to find a Windows 10 or 11 compiled for ARM (Apple Silicon)? Does that mean it takes a long time to be able to set up the GUI interface of Ubuntu? If that's the case, maybe using an Intel based MacBook or a low cost PC with an Intel chip is still the most feasible solution.

Adding the tell to activate Safari I expect something similar to end up in my VMware vm console terminal - however: lc only The context is successfully switched to the Safari vm console window and the string is written correctly except all characters are lower case. The key down shift and key up switch which work fine in terminal (or in other web sites I tested), does **not** work in the vm console. How can I get keystroke to send characters in the correct case to the vm console? (Or - is there another way to get the string into the vm console?)

I have a Macbook pro 2019 with Intel core i7. I have successfully installed Linux using VMware. The location of that VM is on a LaCie hard drive. I'm now trying to install Windows 11. I have done it with the ISO on their website, and it does all the installation steps alright then I get a message that says "The PC will now restart before pursuing" and when restarting, it's like I have to do all the installation steps again. Linux runs fine and all my files are still okay everytime I boot it, but it's like Windows was never installed when it boots back up. Also I have too boot it on the hard drive because my Mac is almost at full capacity. Need all this for school. Any tips? Thanks
