I need to toggle a boolean (NSHighResolutionCapable = false) in the Info.plist for VirtualBox to allow my Windows 10 to run smooth. Before Ventura this could be done by changing the the sharing/permissions followed by editing with any editor. Now that I have migrated to Ventura (and installed Virtualbox 7) I am unable to edit Info.plist in /Applications/VirtualBox.app/Contents/Resources/VirtualBoxVM.app/Contents What is the correct procedure to do this?

I saw a related post but the instructions were specific to VMware Fusion, which I am not using. With Carbon Copy Cloner, I created a bootable backup of the existing macOS Mojave installation that I want to turn into a VM. Do I need to include The Container when I convert that clone into an iso or cdr? Yesterday, I made a macOS Mojave VM directly from the macOS Mojave Installer using the instructions and tools here: AlexanderWillner/runMacOSinVirtualBox The post about doing this with VMware suggests adding the iso/cdr clone of the boot drive you want to virtualize to an existing Mojave VM. Would this work in VirtualBox, given that VirtualBox still doesn't technically support booting from APFS drives? I'm not particularly familiar with VirtualBox and I don't want to purchase VMware or Parallels. What will be the simplest way to convert my existing macOS Mojave APFS installation into a VirtualBox VM?

**upd: The "not found" error was my fault, the terminal command searches for the vm in the user folder, when in actuality it is in the VirtualVM's folder. I tried moving the vm in the user folder, the first error message changes, but I still cannot register it.** For the record, this is MacBook 7.1 mid 2010 running with OLCP. Sequoia works much better than Sonoma so I really don't want to revert back to it. Doesn't matter which version of Windows I choose, creating any VM and trying to launch whether with an .iso file in the optical driver or not doesn't do anything. _____ The errors that I'm getting on 7.x

Clarifications for a controlled upgrade of a VirtualBox-ed Catalina

For some tests, I need to deploy a precise setup: MacOS 10.15.4 with Xcode 12.3. My MacMini 2018/2020 is running 10.15.5 with VirtualBox 6.1.12. I have a running VM with 10.15.0 which I snapshot after installation. My plan was to then do a manual upgrade to 10.15.4 thanks to the corresponding combo update , as I do not want to jump to the latest Catalina version. The process of the manual update is to mount the dmg file, which then shows the pkg file that starts the upgrade process when run, and asks to reboot at some point to finalize everything. The reboot doesn't take me to the upgrade process, but back to the 10.15.0. There are many blog posts and guides regarding what to do when you go through the more classical path of having an update be downloaded to /Applications/Install macOS xxx.app. My guess is that at some point, both ways of upgrading follow the same process (eg reboot to some kind of "upgrade partition" that will overwrite the OS files, reboot to upgraded OS). I would like clarifications on the parts where these upgrade paths differ, so that I can troubleshoot what is preventing me from reaching 10.15.4. In the past, I did similar things with 10.14 and my notes on the topic don't show such an issue (rather issues with lack of APFS support in VirtualBox at that time). In particular, I think the partition layout has changed since then. Essentially, what I tried so far: - start manual upgrade process through the .pkg, reboot - interrupt boot by hammering Esc, reach some kind of grey and blue boot manager (is that VBox or Apple stuff? this is not the VBox EFI shell, there is a text-based UI menu with "Device Manager"/"Boot Manager"/"Boot Maintenance Manager") - explore partitions, looking for an EFI boot file (I spotted the recovery one, can't find the "regular" one nor the "upgrade" one) - boot For example, I wonder if the pkg is partially extracted and that I am supposed to find a boot.efi somewhere on the "System Data" partition. If so, where should I look for it? Do I have a more "sysadmin" way of deploying this upgrade, in particular without reboot?

I updated my mac to Monterey last night. After that, my VM will not start. I have tried several things after looking at various other blogs but none seem to solve the issue. 1. Updating VirtualBox to latest release i.e. 6.1.28 2. Downloading extension for VirtualBox from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads 2. Uninstalling VirtualBox and executing
.pkg
and then allowing "Oracle America" in Security and Privacy setting [this link](https://stackoverflow.com/a/52813517/12784437) 3. Enable/Disable SIP in Recovery mode.

Monterey VM reboot loop and kernel panic in VirtualBox 6.1.32 (on Apple host hardware)

### Environment ### - Apple MBA 2020 MacBook Air9,1 / Intel / x86_64 machine - Host OS: macOS Big Sur 11.6.2 - Host OS Build: 20G314 - SW: VirtualBox 6.1.32 r149290 (also tried on VirtualBox 6.1.30 r148432) - Guest OS: macOS Monterey 12.1 (21C52) ### Purpose ### - Upgrade VM from Big Sur 11.6.2 (fully functional with VB 6.1.32) to Monterey 12.1.
OR - Installation from scratch a Monterey VM. Both have same final result: instability. After the first boot with Monterey, the VM suddenly HANGS AND REBOOTED BY ITSELF, reporting "This system was automatically rebooted after panic". It seems it enters in a "reboot loop" because after some time, even doing nothing, a reboot still happen again and again, like in an infinite loop. ### How to reproduce ### 1. Open VB 6.1.32 2a. Start a VM upgraded to Monterey
OR
2b. Start a VM installed from scratch with Monterey
OR
2.c Start a VM with "Install macOS Monterey ISO" as only Storage added to VM (NO other Hardisk present) 3. Just wait some time...
==> You'll see in 0-15 min Guest OS HANGS AND SUDDENLY REBOOTS by itself.
==> Then the console message is: "This system was automatically rebooted after panic" ### Logs and info ### I unfortunately continue to note the instability of Monterey as Guest with VB 6.1.32, even on Apple Hardware! All config data, and a video are at disposal to have an idea, as well as VB Logs (see attachments). - VirtualBox 6.1.32 Logs: - Monterey (VB 6.1.32) reboot loop video: ### Questions ### I asked to VirtualBox forum here [topic 104998](https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=104998) with hope of receiving helpful feedback, which has not been the case as yet. I'm primarily interested in sharing to the community and finding other user experiences. Does the same or similar behaviour happens to someone else?
Has anyone perhaps applied a workaround or found a fix?
Has anyone ever gotten a really stable and usable Monterey guest installation (on Mac HW) with VirtualBox? ---------- Added later... ==============
I just came back a few days later, just for a minor update on this topic. I was wandering if something changed with Monterey (Host), perhaps hardware resources are managed differently in Monterey, or that more generally something has changed. So I just repeated the tasks with the same VM, so VirtualBox 6.1.32 with Monterey (Guest) on Monterey (Host on Apple hardware) ### Environment (revised) ### - Apple MBA 2020 MakBookAir9,1 / Intel / x86_64 machine - **Host OS: macOS Monterey 12.1** - **Host OS Build: 21C52** - SW: VirtualBox 6.1.32 r149290 - Guest OS: macOS Monterey 12.1 (21C52) I unfortunately note that the result is still the same: VM do a reboot loop and kernel panic.

However, the encrypted USB file is not detected in VirtualBox, even after following these steps: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=82639#p390401 . A non-encrypted usb drive could be read in VirtualBox, so I think the installation of the VirtualBox extension package worked. However, the sole purpose of this VM is to gain access to the bitlocker encrypted usb drive. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I own a 21.5-inch, late 2013 iMac (with a couple hardware upgrades, namely RAM and hard drive) running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (this is the latest macOS compatible with my specs). I'd like to run macOS Catalina 10.15.7 inside a virtual machine on my iMac. I'd like to use VirtualBox as the virtual machine because, unlike Parallels VirtualBox is cross-platform and free-of-charge, and unlike VMWare Fusion I am actually able to find VirtualBox online and download it. (Ever since VMWare has been subsumed by Broadcom, it has become very difficult to find a downloadable link to VMWare Fusion.) As a first step, I followed the link under the *Use the App Store* title on [this page](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/102662) in order to download the official Catalina installer. Then, thanks to [this answer](https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/278338/136773) , I ran the script in [this project](https://github.com/rtrouton/create_macos_vm_install_dmg) in order to convert Catalina's installation file into a bootable ISO file. I then followed the instructions under the *How to install macOS in VirtualBox* heading from [this page](https://www.xda-developers.com/how-install-macos-virtualbox/) to set up a virtual machine in my VirtualBox instance (v. 7.0.20). I used the following configurations: 1) 8192 MB memory size, 2) 64 GB drive size, 3) 2 processors. I followed all the steps up to and including step 15. I didn't know what do in step 16, and I also was a little apprehensive to follow it, because I didn't understand what it did. So instead of following step 16, I closed the VirtualBox instance, and then reopened it, and hit the Start button to start the Catalina virtual machine. The following screen of text messages appeared, and that's it. Nothing more happened. Installing Catalina in a new VirtualBox virtual machine How can I proceed from here? How can I install macOS Cataline in VirtualBox? Would it be easier to install it in VMWare Fusion? If so, where can VMWare Fusion be downloaded from? There is a post similar to this one [here](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/382303/136773) , but it's 4.5 years old, and I'm unable to figure out from the answers what I'm supposed to do.

I have a new M1 MacBook Air that I would like to use for Virtual Machine development. Can Oracle VirtualBox VMs run on this new Apple Silicon architecture? The [documentation](https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/End-user_documentation) on the VirtualBox website states: > In order to run VirtualBox on your machine, you need: > > - Reasonably powerful x86 hardware. Any recent Intel or AMD processor should do. But it's unclear if that documentation is current, or if there are any future plans to support the Apple Silicon ARM architecture. I have not been able to find a VirtualBox blog post or [news](https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/News) update that states that M1 chips will or won't be supported.

However there is no right ^ Control on a Mac keyboard. I installed VirtualBox in Bootcamp. So, where is the Host key? Already tried ⌘ Command F but it doesn't seem to work.

Any free VM's for Apple Silicon MacBooks?
I hope to run Windows XP and similar versions of Windows that don’t support Apple Silicon, either virtually or through an emulator layer. I tried VirtualBox, but it says "Intel Core needed". I have an Apple Silicon laptop and prefer a low cost or free solution. What options exist?

This is the dmg file of Install OS X El Capitan.app enter image description here Nothing is happening. What am I doing wrong?

I am running VirtualBox but get the error NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) on an MacBook Pro 2020 with an M1 chip I have tried everything uninstalling Virtualbox, enabling SIP in recovery mode, installing the Virtualbox again. Only thing I haven't tried is allowing Oracle in Privacy --> General since I don't see it there. The following is the exact log I get.
Result Code:

Cannot use Apple services after installing MacOS in Windows with Virtualbox
I wanted to delve a bit into developing apps in Swift and wanted to try to install MacOS in my Windows laptop. I got the image and managed to install it but the problem I am facing is that I cannot use iMessage, and other services, for instance. Am I missing any additional step?

Has anyone been able to find a workaround to run a Host Only Network on Mac M Chips? I am trying to run a OVA file on VirtualBox using a Host Only Network so I can set up a server for this class that requires to have a contained dev environment. However, the professor has said that he is of no help to any of the Mac people in class that have M chips. I have tried using VirtualBox which simply isn't supported anymore, so I tried running an older dev build of VirtualBox and hosting the OVA file but it always just ends in an error. I think since it is trying to access information that it can't reach since the architecture is no longer supported. I then tried using VMWare and running a Windows 11 machine through that then running VirtualBox through that, which I then found out that VirtualBox doesn't support nested Virtualization. I haven't seen any solutions regarding this situation so I am just wondering if anybody has found a workaround. I am having to resort to my desktop Windows machine which I can't use in class.
