Getting iMovie to record in a smaller format

I have a Youtube channel, and lately I've been making some pretty long videos. I use iMovie and the computer's webcam to record, and the resulting raw recordings can get pretty huge. Like, 32GB for 2h47. Is there any way to get iMovie to record in a smaller format?
