I have two libraries on my Mac, one of them has all of my Apple Music, while the other has all of my iTunes purchases and CD rips. I'd like to share the second library with my Apple TV and iPhone. However, I cannot seem to get this to work. The first library shares just fine, and I can access it just fine from my phone/TV, but when I restart iTunes and select the second library, I cannot access it. I have tried restarting everything, disabling and re enabling sharing, tried with and without a password, and nothing I do seems to make it work. Yet the second I restart iTunes with my Apple Music library, it shows up under home sharing almost immediately.

I would like to be able to browse my music library from a TV, using a native TV interface (ie not have to switch to a different input, or use a different remote). How do I do this? PS I do not have an Apple Music subscription, and I don't really want to pay to access music I already own.

I have old and unsupported Apple TV gen 2 and 3 devices hooked up to 2 of my TVs. I know they are old but they still work fine for my purposes. Connected using Wifi directly to my main router, I am able to access my media collection hosted on my Mac, using Apple Home Sharing, from both Apple TVs just fine. I recently wanted to reduce the Wifi footprint in my home, so I got 2 Wifi repeaters and placed them in the 2 rooms with the TVs. I hooked up each TV, game consoles and the Apple TVs to each repeater using ethernet cables. Everything works great. The game consoles connect online and have no problems in multiplayer games. The TV can access the network and everything appears to work there. Both Apple TVs allow me to connect to iTunes to rent movies or purchase or listen to music, however when I try to access the Computers tile on the main menu, which uses Apple Home Sharing, nothing appears. I get an error message saying that there is no shared library. If I unplug the ethernet cable and it reconnects to wifi, suddenly the media library shows up just fine. The repeaters have a 4 port switch built in and are setup in bridge mode with the gateway set to the main router (192.168.1.1). All security options and service options (upnp, etc) are turned off on the repeaters. IPv6 is turned off on the main router and all of the repeaters. I know I can simply just keep the Apple TVs in wifi mode and be just fine... However, I want to know what is going on here. Why doesn't Apple Home Sharing work with an ethernet connection? I don't have any of the Apple TV 4k models to test, so I'm not even sure is this issue is limited to the gen 2 and 3 or not. Is there anyone that can shed light on what is going on or how to fix it? Thanks. **Edit** I confirmed that it is not the ethernet connection, but the repeaters causing the issue. I connected the Apple TVs directly to my main router with ethernet and home sharing works fine. So, some network configuration is blocking the home sharing from working using repeaters. I can't imagine what. **Edit 2** I added an Archer C7 v2 running dd-wrt in wifi repeater mode. Exact same issue. I also tried an Archer C7 v5 with stock firmware as the main access point with the same result. I tried a Archer C7 v2 with dd-wrt as the main access point and I have the exact same issue with it. Below is my configuration for the dd-wrt repeater. Everything not shown is either turned off (dnsmasq, spi firewall, upnp, port forwarding, etc) or default. Both are using WPA2 AES with the same key. I'm using the 5GHz radios for repeater communication and the 2.4Ghz for connected devices. **dd-wrt repeater** **Setup** Basic Setup Advanced Routing **Wireless** enter image description here **dd-wrt main router** **Setup** enter image description here **Wireless** enter image description here

Apple Music Home Sharing: Skips song and doesn't play audio when Bluetooth speakers/headphones are connected

Since a while back, I can't get Apple Music's Home Sharing (Media Sharing) to work on the local network. If I access the library on another MacOS computer, the library content will display fine, but nothing can be played if I'm using Bluetooth speakers/headphones (AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max in my case). Whenever I attempt to play a track, it will skip the track in question and instead jump to the next track. It will then look as if that track is playing (red sound wave animation), but it is stuck at 00:00 and no audio is played. This problem does not occur when playing through the on-board speakers. Playback then is fine. The problem occurs only when the "Airplay" icon (top right corner with concentric rings and a small triangle) is red, which happens when Bluetooth speakers are connected. If Bluetooth is off or no Bluetooth speakers are connected, that icon will be gray. I am not sure when this occurred, perhaps when I moved my Mac to another Mac via Time Machine restoration. This issue has been persistent over MacOS 12 and MacOS 13. What I have tried: * Reset Media Sharing in System Settings * Reset MacOS Firewall in System Settings * Reset Handoff and "Allow AirPlay" in System Settings * Unpairing, factory resetting, re-pairing Bluetooth headphones * Reset "Music Store cache" in Apple Music * Reset "Music Media folder location" in Apple Music I am wondering if someone else has experienced this problem, and if you found a solution. Or if not, at least that may indicate that this is a wider problem that people are having. It might be a bug in MacOS/Apple Music. I don't know how to contact Apple about this issue. --- NB: Additionally, it seems like the Mac trying to access the remote library, is unable to AirPlay to the Mac that has the remote library. However, the reverse works. Settings on both Macs allow Handoff and to act as an "AirPlay receiver" for "Current User" (I am logged in on the same Apple ID on both Macs).

My old iPhone SE (2nd Gen) would connect to my Apple Music library without a problem. I replaced it with a new SE (3rd Gen) and now I can't connect to my Apple Music library on my MacBook Pro. According to the Apple instructions, I need to be on the same wifi network (I am) and be logged into my Apple id on both devices. (I am.) The iTunes Remote says that no libraries are found. I clicked on settings and pressed the Add a Media Library button which gives me a code to enter in the Apple Music app. I successfully enter the code and get a message on the Music app that my remote is now able to control music, but the iPhone app won't do anything. I get the round icon with the music note but it is greyed out. I've rebooted, restarted, checked that home sharing is active, etc. but nothing is working. I upgraded to Ventura 13.3 hoping that might help, but no go. My old iPhone SE and my iPad Air 2 which will only update to iOS 15.7.4 have no problem connecting to my Apple Music library via the Apple Remote app. What could be different with my new iPhone SE aside from the newer OS (16.4.1) that is preventing the Apple Remote app from connecting?

Looking to share my Itunes Library with my wife on same machine. SO for example, when I log off, and she logs in, I would like to be able to access my library in her ITunes. I have spent countless hours combing the internet with no success and wondered if this is now even possible. I have read this THIS stack exchange thread about how to share but it seems this method doesnt work. | When I open Itunes on my wifes account with OPTION key and choose the newly created Library from my existing account nothing gets imported. Another method I tried and failed with is to simply export the the Library from my existing Itunes as XML. The result was that the playlists get loaded fine but all the songs are missing (except for 3 or 4 songs)! It should be noted that all the Media for the playlists and libraries are in a shared folder that are accessible to my wife's account with read & write permissions turned on. I also tried setting up Home Sharing, but this does not seem to work on the same machine. Running Sierra 10.12.6 with Itunes version 12.7.2.60 At this point i have no clue what to do. Any help is appreciated.

I like to watch my (mp4) video files on my living room tv via an Apple TV (3rd gen). I just swapped from Mac Mini M1 running Big Sur to a different Mac Mini M1 running Monterey (double the RAM and double the storage) and now using Apple TV to access media files is practically unusable. It often won't see files or is super slow and then runs out of buffer. Mac Mini is wired to network I see no network issues. I've tried rebooting everything (Mac Mini, Apple TV, router, etc.). I've tried turning off Home Sharing and turning it back on. I still have old Mac Mini and it still works fine. Any ideas on how to get Home Sharing working on new-to-me Mac Mini M1?

When my PC and my iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, I can access my shared library with the Remote app. It works as advertised. But if I connect my PC through an ethernet cable, the library does not appear in Remote. **My configuration:** * A Netgear switch is connected to my ISP box. * A Wi-Fi mesh (Netgear Orbi) is connected to that switch. * My PC is connected to that switch. * My iPhone is connected to the Wi-Fi mesh. **What I noticed:** If I connect my PC to the Wi-Fi, then open Remote and start playing a song from the shared library, and finally re-plug the ethernet cable into my PC, Remote continues to see my shared library (even if I kill the app and immediately relaunch it). From this point, it seems to work for a while but at some point, Remote does not see the shared library anymore. I know the doc says both devices should be on the same Wi-Fi network but since I somehow made it work through ethernet, I'm wondering if it could also work without having to unplug my PC first. **UPDATE:** Following David Andersen's track, I tried disabling Wi-Fi as soon as I re-plug the ethernet cable and Remote lose connection immediately. So, I guess it never worked through ethernet (it just work until the PC does the actual switch from Wi-Fi to ethernet). But my question remains: Is there a way I can make it work?

The Macbook Air was running Mojave (didn't work), I then upgraded to Big Sur (still didn't work). I'm running out of ideas what I can check and would love some suggestions.

I've set up file sharing and screen sharing, so that I can access the files on the Mac Pro with my Macbook Pro. But is there a way that I can save power by having my Mac Pro constantly asleep, but wake up automatically when I want to access it from the Macbook Pro? Then go back to sleep once I'm done? I've ticked the Wake For Access Network on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro. But that doesn't work. I did some research and saw that you need an Airport or Apple TV with Bonjour Sleep Proxy to get it to work. Is there any way to get it to work with what just the Mac Pro and Macbook Pro?

I can Home Share between a Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and my AppleTV with no problems as long as the two computers are awake. The ATV finds and streams the libraries with no problems. The Mac Mini and ATV are connected to a switch, while the Mac Pro is connected directly to the router. Everything is on the same subnet and has the same IP range, and everything is wired (not using Wi-Fi). If the Mac Pro is asleep, the ATV seems to be able to wake it on demand and stream it's library (after I added specific port forwarding rules to my router as suggested by Apple - details below). Again, the Mac Pro is connected directly to the router. The main problem is with the Mac Mini, which, along with the ATV, is connected via a switch. If that computer is asleep, it will not wake up and the ATV can not stream it's library. One weird thing I've noticed is that if both computers are awake, the ATV shows both libraries as available to stream. If I sleep everything (including the ATV) then wake it up, both computers appear as available to stream, but when I click in to the Mini's library it fails to load. Also, the last time I checked, Wake on Demand was working over Wi-Fi, but I'd prefer to keep as many devices hard wired. About My Setup: - Router: - IP Address in the range of 192.150.23.xxx - Subnet on 255.255.255.128 (This was done in order to port forward to the broadcast IP address. On a standard subnet of 255.255.255.0, my router wouldn’t let me forward to 255.255.255.255. I read that I could change the subnet to 255.255.255.128 and broadcast to 255.255.255.127. - Port forwarding: everywhere I read on the web recommended forwarding port 7 over UDP to my broadcast IP address of 192.150.23.127. After speaking with Apple, they also recommending doing the same with ports 1900, 5350, 5351, and 5353. - I verified this subnet change and port forwarding is working as expected because I downloaded an iPhone app called mWOL and it can send a magic packet and wake any computer I point it to. - Mac Mini: - Wired connection to switch - Energy Saver > Wake for network access checked - iTunes open - Mac Pro: - Wired connection to router - Energy Saver > Wake for network access checked - iTunes open - AppleTV: - Wired connection to switch Any ideas what could be happening? Could the magic packet be getting swallowed when sent to the Mini? Perhaps related to the fact that I’m using a switch?

At work, I cannot get home sharing to work with the iOS Remote app to see my Macbook Pro's iTunes instance. Both the laptop and the iOS devices are connected to the same network (have tried both wi-fi and Ethernet for the laptop) Going into the app, no devices show up and it says to enable home sharing. Home sharing is enabled in iTunes and as soon as I go home and connect to my home network, I can see the MacBook Pro's iTunes install via home sharing. So my question is what port(s) configuration would have to be done to make it show up at work? Our IT people said it's not an intentional blocking of the service and would like to help if we can figure out what ports need to be opened to make home sharing work.

My parents have an iMac that they share using fast user switching. They each have an iTunes library, where mom keeps the pictures from the family's digital camera and her music collection, and dad maintains his music and the family's movie collection. Also, they each have an iPhone, which is synced to their respective music library. We recently got them an Apple TV, so that they'd be able to enjoy the content on their tv. We've gotten both picture viewing, music streaming and movie watching work, but the problem is that all content is not accessible at the same time. To me it appears that the culprit is the fast user switching. Both libraries appear on the Apple TV, but usually only one of the libraries is accessible. I have not been able to establish a pattern with regards to who is the active user on the iMac, i.e. it does not appear to matter if dad's the foremost user on the mac when trying to access his library from the tv (or if mom's foremost when trying to access dad's library). Any suggestions as to what can be done to solve this problem? The goal is that all content should be accessible from the Apple TV at all times. They are using iTunes 10.5.3, unfortunately I can't tell the software version of the AppleTV right now.
