I have a SaaS system that is a web app. I also have a simplified lightweight version that is a mobile app. Users must have a main account on the web app before they can use the mobile app. That being said I'd like to offer the iOS app in the Apple store but I do not want to pay Apple 30% of my subscription fees since most traffic will be coming from my website anyway. I understand that I cannot link to my website inside the iOS app and tell users to "Buy Now" in order to use the IOS app. I'm wondering how exactly I should handle it in order to: Get my app approved and into the store and allow people who install the app know that they need to go to my website to register in order to use the app. Do I just put a login screen on the app and then text below it that says "An account is required to use the app. Visit our website to register” Alternatively, can I put an actual link there as long as it's not to a shopping cart page? Such as "An account is required to use the app. Visit www.example.com to register.” I'd love to hear from those experience with getting apps published bot circumventing the 30% payments to Apple.

When visiting developer.apple.com to renew my Apple Developer Program membership, I see the following error: error message quoted below > There is no credit/debit card on the Apple Online Store associated with your Apple ID to auto-renew your membership. > > Add a credit/debit card to maintain membership benefits and keep your apps available on the App Store. > > Add Card or > The credit/debit card associated with your Apple ID on the Apple Online Store is expired. > > Update your credit/debit card to maintain membership benefits and keep your apps available on the App Store. > > Update Card When I click "Add Card", I am taken to appleid.apple.com. But when I go to edit the Payment & Shipping information, **my details are grayed out and cannot be edited**. "Apple Pay" is possibly selected, and I see no way to add a new Credit Card. How do I add a credit card?

Playing random on iPhone, I noticed that I hadn't heard a few songs in a long time. Search library on the phone, not found. Search the library on iTunes, not found. Search the location of downloaded files, not found. Search in iTunes store, it says 'Purchased' (see picture below), but it just says 'Purchased', no option for 'Download' (the button is gray, cannot press it). Account (menu), 'Check for available downloads...', says 'There are no available for (my account name)'. This happened once before several months ago, with a single song. I found the song again in iTunes Store. The button for the song was active, with price (not 'Purchased'). I clicked it, then it said 'You already purchased this song, would you like to download it?'. So I was able to recover that one, but not the recent ones in a similar fashion. Questions: * Any reliable way I can find if this has happened to other songs? (My library is quite huge, I don't have a solid record of what I think it should contain) * How can I recover any songs this has happened to? (I prefer to download the files to the iTunes computer) iTunes Store, Purchased

Understanding Apple's per-ID 10-device limit

I am confused about Apple's 10-device-per-Apple-ID limit. I am an Apple fanatic who owns tons of Apple devices, past and present, and uses nearly all of them on different occasions for different purposes. For example, I have: * my iPhone 6S * my iPhone 6 (used for app development and testing) * an iPhone 5S (also for testing on smaller screens) * an iPad mini * an iPad pro * a new 2015 MacBook * a MacBook Air (a dedicated work machine) * an older 2011 MacBook Air (used specifically for app development also) * a Mac Mini (being used as an HTPC) * an iMac * an older Mac Pro (using it as a server) * and a 2007 MacBook (for testing things on older OS'es i.e. Lion) I'm also sharing my Apple ID with a close family member who has two devices - an iPhone and an iPad. This totals 14 devices, 7 of each type, all of which are actively used. Even if you forget about the family member I'm sharing with, we're still at 12 devices. What isn't making sense to me is what exactly triggers a device to get added to this 10-device limit. Apple's documentation says "automatic downloads" or "downloading previously-purchased content including books, music, movies and apps" but this doesn't seem consistent. Example: my brand new iPad Pro will not login to Apple Music, saying that I've reached the limit of 10 devices. However, it *will* download apps from the App Store that I've previously purchased. Also, I am unable to remove any devices from the list in the iTunes in the Cloud section. They all have their remove buttons greyed out. I don't mind if some of my older machines can't access Apple Music or even if they can't access every paid app, but I do use free App Store-sourced apps on every machine (e.g. TextWrangler on Macs, Dropbox on iOS). To further confuse me, I've never had to be conscious in the past about "deauthorizing" devices when it comes to apps. Over the past couple years, I've easily had 20+ devices on my account at different times (all my own devices, but I upgrade a lot). Each of these devices has logged into my iCloud and downloaded apps from my purchased apps list. At no time was I ever made to specifically deauthorize any device in order to download my apps onto a new device. (iTunes Store content, i.e. music, movies, TV shows, has always had the 5-device limit—this isn't what I'm worried about. I'm mostly worried about apps.) Seeing this error with Apple Music on my iPad is the first time I've come across any issues with authorizing and deauthorizing devices. Could someone help explain: * What triggers a device to get added to the 10-device limit? Does it happen *anytime* you login to the App Store and/or iTunes Music Store on *any* device? It doesn't seem to be the case because I have paid and free apps running on plenty of devices. * How can I remove a device from iTunes on the iCloud Devices page? * What will removing a device from this section do? e.g. Will that device no longer be able to download app updates (even for free apps)? Will it be unable to download purchased apps? Will it be unable to play protected purchased content (iOS devices)? * How has it been possible for me to associate clearly more than 10 devices in the past few years to my account without triggering this problem, but now I suddenly cannot stream Apple Music on my new iPad but can download apps to it? The biggest concern I have honestly is apps. I have no problem managing and limiting authorizations to Apple Music, but I do need to be able to download at the very least my free apps to all my devices. To quote Apple: > When you use certain iTunes Store features on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer, your iOS device or computer is automatically associated with your Apple ID in iTunes account settings. These features include: > > * Turning on iCloud Music Library. > * Downloading past purchases you made in the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store. > * Turning on Automatic Downloads. > * Turning on Family Sharing. > * Subscribing to iTunes Match. This suggests that there is actually a 10-device limit overall on how many devices I can have using apps I've purchased on my account. But this is clearly not the case—as per my list above I already have more than 10 devices on my account and it seems to be working just fine. The only thing that seems to have triggered this situation is trying to play Apple Music on my new machine. So, now the question becomes: is Apple Music using an __authorization__, or a __device association__, or both? Also, if device associations are supposed to be limited to 10 devices, how have I easily been able to have more than that many iOS devices pulling apps from my account over the years without ever manually disassociating devices? If we go back to when I got my first iOS device, I could easily say I've had probably 20+ devices that have at some point had apps from my account installed on them. Most of those devices are old ones that I've sold or given away, but many I still have and use, albeit very infrequently—but never before have I ever run up against a warning about this when downloading apps on my account on a new device. The confusion for me is that I received the error __when I tried to play Apple Music on a new device__, not install apps on it—but I've never seen the error through the years and years of installing iOS apps on multiple devices—so I'm confused as to what limit I've actually reached and why. Apple, seriously... why can't this just be SIMPLE? Apple Music should go alongside __Authorizations__. If there *is* some kind of limit on iOS devices and apps on them, then that should be device registrations (which I've actually never experienced). Keep it separate.

Can iTunes for Windows play 4K movies that purchased from iTunes Store?
I rented a 4K movie from iTunes Store in iTunes for Windows. But the resolution seemed not to be 4K when it started playing. (My monitor is 2K) I checked the preferences of iTunes and found something strange. There doesn't seem to be any 4K options. ![1] [1]: https://i.sstatic.net/zrxLW.png

I just noticed that some of my songs that Apple Music is marking as Uploaded rather than Matched, are actually greyed out on the album page within Apple Music. If I try to add these streaming versions to my library, these tracks are unplayable, and have a dotted cloud icon as well as a message saying that they are no longer available. So, I guess the obvious reason these particular tracks aren't getting matched is that they are not actually in the Apple Music catalog. *However*, if I look up the same album in the iTunes Store, more often than not I find that the tracks are available for purchase. Does iTunes Match match tracks to a different catalog than Apple Music? I guess what I'm saying is, if I were to cancel my Apple Music subscription and get an iTunes Match subscription (something I've been thinking of doing), would it only match my tracks against the iTunes Store's catalog instead of Apple Music's, to see if they are in there? Or are the services actually supposed to check both catalogs? It seems like the timings and metadata (and likely the music files themselves) are the exact same between the two services, but if each service only checks its respective catalog, and I run into cases like this where one service has something that the other doesn't... it makes me wonder if I really need *both* services, in order to check my music against everything that Apple has available out there?

Let's say I purchased 300 movies on iTunes, and then sometimes I browse the iTunes store to see if there are some new or movies I can purchase. I would then see a movie, and iTunes says I can purchase it, but only that when I check my email searching by itunes receipt Then it shows that I have already purchased it before. If I go to my movies Library tab, I can't find it there either. Today I tried it on my MacBook Air, and then I checked my iPhone, and it is the same result: nothing found. So I tend to communicate to iTunes support, wasting 15 minutes to get back a $4.99 or $9.99 movie. This time, the online chat support said at first the purchased movie has an expiration date, so I have to repurchase the movie. I asked her "why did I purchase a movie and it can expire?" And she searched and found the following. ### One "Solution" However, it seems more apparent that there is "one way" to solve it, which is to find a way on the UI of iTunes or Apple TV to go to Account -> Purchased and search for the movie. Now the movie is found and you cannot just watch it, but **have to** download it to watch it. This time, this movie happen to be a movie that is on Apple TV that is part of "Try it for free on Cinemax" on the iPhone, but doesn't show such line on the MacBook. But both places asked me to buy it again. So is that it? Always follow this "trick" to solve it? This problem has been happening for close to 10 years and still it is not fixed. If it happens merely 5, 6 times every single year, it is enough to make it annoying.
