I want to open a list of tabs in Safari I have currently open in Chrome. In Chrome, there I use the Copy all URLs MD extension, which allows me to copy all open tabs URLs into the clipboard. The same extension also allows me to open a new tab for a list of URLs in the clipboard. I found **Tabs to Links**, which allows me to copy all open Safari tabs as URLs. But nothing to open tabs for a given list of URLs. Do I miss something? Has anybody a suggestion how to solve this? Thanks in advance. Edit: fixed some grammar mistakes and typos, changed the URL to the extension I use, after the other was discontinued.

I'm looking for extensions to allow the Safari 6.x versions to manage a large number of open tabs better than the current implementation. In particular I'm looking for two features: 1. *Vertical tabs*. This is possible in Firefox by means of the extension Tree Style Tab . 2. *App tabs*. In Firefox it is possible to pin tabs as _app tabs_. Up to know I've found and tried several times SafariStand but it doesn't look great and it doesn't provide the features of _Tree Style Tab_. I would really like to move from Firefox to Safari, but for the problem of "I have too many useful extensions in Firefox." :) Has anyone discovered extensions that add these features to Safari for OS X?

macOS Safari: how to quickly switch search engine

## TL;DR I'm looking for a way to enable "search shortcuts" in macOS Safari. For example I want to be able to type wi my search term to search for "my search term" on Wikipedia, or yt my search term to search for "my search term" on YouTube. This is something that's built into Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, but not in Safari. ## More info I'm trying to give macOS Safari a honest try as my default browser. This with Safari 15.2, on macOS Monterey 12.1. The major pain point for me is quick access to different search engines (or sites) in the address bar. I know I can choose the default from a short list (DuckDuckGo, Google, etc), and that I can also access extra search engines using "Enable Quick Website Search" in the preferences: screenshot of Safari preference panel to select search engines That's not great though, because if I want to search on Wikipedia, for example, I have to type the whole Wikipedia hostname before my search term, e.g. en.wikipedia.org my search term. Only then Safari will recognize it, and then I also have to press ↓ in order to actually select a Wikipedia search: screenshot of the macOS Safari address bar with a Wikipedia search That's a lot of keys to press, and slow. Much slower, in fact, than what I'm used to with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, where I can configure the quick-search function to use keywords instead of the entire website hostname. For example, I can use wi for Wikipedia and yt for YouTube. It's just built into my muscle memory, I suppose. I've looked for Safari extensions that would accomplish this, but couldn't find any. Any suggestion?

I've just upgraded to Mac OS X Big Sur (Version 11.01) from Catalina. Normally in the browser or finder you can select the 'Share' to send information to another application. For example, if browsing a site and want to save the information I would typically select the 'Share to' icon, select Notes and then my information would be saved. After upgrading to Big Sur I've hit the following issues: 1. Share menu in Safari is empty 2. Selecting the 'More' option pops up the Extensions preference which is all blank enter image description here Now if I try the path of going to the Safari option to add an extension the new functionality in BigSur pops open the App Store. I can select an option and after installing it then says to return to the Extensions 'management' screen but nothing is able to be selected or activated. Net result - stuck ! Does anyone have any suggestions

### The Problem On opening a new link when there are no Safari windows, but Safari is already active, Safari will hang (complete with beach ball) for ~10–30 seconds. ### Reproduction Steps 1. Have Safari **open** but with no windows 2. Click a link in any app, open a bookmark with Alfred, or enter a URL with Alfred or Spotlight. 3. If Safari opens **both** the link and a blank tab, Safari beach balls for between 10–30 seconds. ### Specs - Safari v17.1 (19616.2.9.11.7) - macOS v14.1.1 (23B81) - MacBook Pro 14" (2021, M1 Pro, 32GB RAM) ### Things I Have Tried - Disabling all extensions. - Occurs with or without a network connection. - Doesn't reproduce on a test user account. - Clearing website data: **Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All**. - Setting Safari as the default browser (previously BetterTouchTool was) from **Settings > General > Set Safari as Default Browser**. - Quitting BetterTouchTool just to be safe. - Restarting my Mac. ### Things I have noticed - Whenever the hang happens, I have noticed that Safari will open a second, blank tab. So, although I have only clicked one link, two tabs open. - In Activity Monitor, the Safari process says it is using ~100% CPU when the beach ball happens. All the other Safari processes (extensions, networking SafariLaunchAgent, etc) seem normal. - Frustratingly, it doesn't happen every time! It will be fine for 3-4 fresh links and then the problem will reoccur. It doesn't matter what URL I go to. It doesn't happen at the same point. Sometimes happens before the page loads, and sometimes after the page loads. But always within about 60 seconds of the new window opening. - Clicking on Safari in the dock to open a new window, and entering the URL into the address bar, doesn't cause the fault. I am a bit stumped about what to try next. Every time I think I've narrowed the culprit down, I manage to reproduce the problem. Suggestions for things to try or ways to narrow down the fault gratefully received!

Preferably timestamped. Is there a Safari (or Chrome) extension that does this? This question applies mostly to Mac OS X, but also relevant for iOS devices.

In the version history of my content blocker it says it can show the trackers that were blocked. I thought the content blocker apps in iOS don't have access to the URLs that were blocked? From https://www.guidingtech.com/what-are-safari-content-blockers/ : "Unlike ad blockers, Safari doesn’t access the rules within a content blocker in real-time. That prevents content blockers from profiling users by activity." "They do not have access to your browsing activity since Safari loads all the rules in advance, hence preventing them from gaining access to sensitive information in any shape or form." Has the content blocking architecture in iOS changed, now allowing content blocker apps to access the stuff that was blocked?

I would like to add a [bookmarklet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet) to my Safari window on macOS. I want the bookmarklet to be available as a button in the [top-level](https://lapcatsoftware.com/articles/blues.html) Safari toolbar, in the same toolbar as the Back/Forward buttons, address bar, Safari extension buttons, etc. enter image description here View > Customize Toolbar... does not seem to show any bookmark-related toolbar buttons for this toolbar I'm aware that I can View > Show Favorites Bar to display a full "Favorites" bookmark toolbar underneath the address bar. I can display and click a bookmarklet from this toolbar, and uncheck Show Title to [display only the favicon](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/143916/safari-display-favicons-in-favorites-bar) . enter image description here But I don't want to always see all of my other bookmarks in this bar, or waste the vertical space. I just want a single button next to the Address bar that opens a single bookmark / invokes a bookmarklet. How can I do this in Safari for macOS? If it cannot be done stock, are there any Safari Extensions that enable the functionality?

I know that the [xSearch for Safari](https://apps.apple.com/ch/app/xsearch-for-safari/id1579902068?l=en-GB) extension offers this ability, if the `Enable Empty Searches" option is configured... but I would prefer not to use a third-party extension for this. enter image description here Note this functionality is slightly different from the "search shortcuts" that Safari natively supports - and is offered by these extensions: - [QueryDial](https://apps.apple.com/ch/app/querydial/id6478811925?l=en-GB) - [xSearch](https://apps.apple.com/ch/app/xsearch-for-safari/id1579902068?l=en-GB) - [Keyword Search](https://apps.apple.com/ch/app/keyword-search/id1558453954?l=en-GB)

I was watching a movie last night in a Safari window, and suddenly 2 YouTube videos started playing in the background. It was a gigantic pain to find them and turn them off (since I typically have a lot of tabs open). I know it's possible to disable audio from any given tab _once I've found that tab_. But that's equally as much of a pain. Since I don't have the power to punish the guilty parties at YouTube who have no business making their site do things like that in the first place, and manually disabling tabs doesn't really solve the problem, the only acceptable solution seems to be to find a way to automatically silence all tabs that are in the background. This sounds like a job for a Safari extension. Is it possible for a Safari extension to automatically turn off sound for any background tab? (And turn it on again when the tab is moved to the foreground.)
