For some searches, Spotlight shows strange top hits. I often want to open the "Sound" System Preferences pane using Spotlight. But when I type sound it _always_ shows "DaftCloud for SoundCloud" from the App Store as the top hit. I have never intentionally chosen this item. I have probably hit it a couple of times by mistake, but the vast majority of the time, I navigate one step down using the keyboard and choose "Sound". I rarely listen to music, and never to "DaftCloud" and I never use "SoundCloud". This top hit is weird to me. (Is Apple selling top hits on Spotlight?) top hit for sound I have seen claims that Spotlight can "learn" from user behavior . This doesn't seem to be the case here. I have even intentionally opened "Sound" repeatedly using Spotlight, and it still shows "SoundCloud" first. Interestingly, typing soun (without the final d) shows the "Sound" preference pane first, but as soon as I complete the word sound, it switches to "SoundCloud". (Again, is Apple selling the "sound" keyword?) Anyway, I want the "Sound" preference pane to be the top hit for sound. Is there any way to achieve this? I have explored the Spotlight "Search Results" settings. But they don't seem to offer a way to remove App Store suggestions. I cannot remove "Applications" because that will remove the "Sound" preferences from the results. Some sources claim that I should be able to drag around the "Search Results" in settings , but they don't move for me. I can force "Sound" preferences to the top by using the search query kind:system preferences sound, but that is absurdly long to type.

Press ⌘ + F to open a Finder window; select what I want to search (this Mac, recent files, etc); press the Plus Sign to add criteria (such as extension, title, type of file, etc). After the upgrade, there is no Plus Sign. All I can do is search all occurrences of whatever I type. How do I add search criteria like I did before?

I'm used to viewing my library songs and hitting command-f to filter the list. Since upgrading from iTunes to Music this year, command-f triggers the bizarre new search that gives results as bubbles and grids. And I can't seem to exit it via tab or escape or command-shift-f for "filter". - What's the keyboard shortcut to exit this new search (is there one)? - Or, what's the keyboard shortcut to return to viewing my library songs? Apart from my playlists, it's the only view I ever want to see anyway. I don't subscribe to Apple Music or use iCloud to store my songs. - Or, what text can I enter into system prefs for these actions to create custom shortcuts for them?

My iMac running [macOS High Sierra] has two SSD drives: 256GB with the OS on it and 2TB for data. Spotlight returns zero results when doing a search on both drives. Also other apps using Spotlight for searching (for example the Calendar app and Outlook 2016) return no results when doing a search. However, searching an external connected USB drive works perfectly, and also searching a shared remote network drive gives perfect search results! I ran these commands to trigger a reindex:
sudo mdutil -a -i off
sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight-v100
and restarted the computer, but that didn't solve my problem: Looking in Finder, I see the root .Spotlight-V100 folder with a red "forbidden" sign. Is this normal? ***Log generated by a Spotlight Search Test in Mints :***

I am working on local developments on my local web server. I have dnsmasq on my mac to redirect all .test domains back to my own machine. I'll have an url like "mysite.test/some/path/1" in the url bar. When in Safari, and only Safari, any time I change a url manually it goes to my default search engine. What I mean is, if I go to the url bar and change the url, by hand, to "mysite.test/some/path/2" and press enter - it throws that as a query to my configured search engine, rather than opening the local site. To make it work, I have to *by hand*, and *every time*, add http:// at the start of the url, then make my url change, then press enter. Oh. My. God. Safari. Stop. How can I convince Safari that when I'm working on local domains that I do not want to search? I'd be happy to never ever in a million years use the url bar for searching the web, if that's even possible.

For some baffling reason, Apple thinks that whatever I search for in one app will be the same thing that I want to search for in another app. This results in my actual search terms being overwritten in (for example) my text editor just because I searched for something on a web page or in iTunes. Having my carefully-craft regex replaced with "Pink Floyd" is aggravating, to say the least, especially when using a text editor without a search history. The user-interface thinking that led Apple to this decision is beyond my ability to comprehend, but I really would like a way to turn it off. How can I disable this? [The question which this supposedly duplicates](https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/80894/3553) is NOT even close to being the same. It asking WHY this happens, not HOW TO STOP IT. The answer to that question happens to offer a way to stop it _in one program_ even though that's not the subject of the question. So neither does the question ask how to stop it, nor does the answer give a generalized answer about how to stop it. My question has nothing to do with BBEdit. These two questions are only very superficially related. There is no possible way they can be considered a duplicate.

If I click on a particular spreadsheet, the spreadsheet opens, but it doesn't move to the page/sub-sheet where the text was found. Inside the spreadsheet, I can search, but only on the current sheet. So it seems like I have no way of actually finding where text is when I have multi-sheet spreadsheet? Im building a cookbook for a restaurant that I work at in Numbers and need to total the amount of supplies I need for an ordering guide. The ordering guide is as follows: Cooking Par Guide Example I want the green cell to be the total amount of that ingredient. Each sheet in the book is a different recipe, like this: Example of Recipe Sheet I just want the par guide to grab the "Scaled Amount" for each ingredient and add them together, so I know how much to buy. Im hoping for it to do this automatically, so Im not manually looking for each cell to add to a total, instead using something like VLOOKUP to combine totals.
