In the last 24 hours Reddit no longer offers correct authentication while browsing from an iMac running El Capitan. Other sites like StackExchange still work. ResearchGate.net suffered issues previously . 1. ResearchGate.net ( first to drop out... but chromium still works! as of Apr29th,2025) 2. Github.com 3. Annas-archive.org 4. Reddit.com ( as of April 2025) I’d like to learn more to understand if these failures are common or just every site gets to do what it wants. My educated guess is that this is a general web server authentication issue, if I can figure why this doesn’t work we may be able to implement a fix client-side. How can I understand these failures?

More and more desktop websites these days use javascript to offer ***specific website functionality*** which is available when you right-click on something. Often the developers create something that looks like a menu, but could be anything. If I'm browsing desktop websites on iOS Safari (mainly iPad, but sometimes iPhone), how do I perform a right-click to display this functionality? For a simple example, visit https://swisnl.github.io/jQuery-contextMenu/demo.html and try to display the menu under the box which states "right click me". On a desktop it's pretty obvious, but I cannot work out how to trigger it on an iPhone or iPad. I've tried tapping and holding but this either brings up the browser menu or the text selection tool. I've also tried double-tapping but that tends to zoom the page in and out. --- Side note: If you do a Google search for this, you'll find many posts from people assuming that you want to right-click to access functionality that desktop browsers typically offer (such as back, forwards, reload, save as, view page source and inspect element). **This is not the functionality I'm interested in accessing.**

For the past few days, Screen Time has been showing me continuous activity from a specific website (I assume the grey circle is a website activity). enter image description here The screenshot was taken this morning upon opening the lid of this M3 Max MacBook Pro which, at least in theory, should have been fully asleep all night. While this website _per se_ should be innocuous, I cannot find it anywhere among my open Safari windows and tabs. I've cleared history from Safari, quit Safari & waited to see what was happening and the activity kept rising. Activity Monitor doesn't show any entry connected to "Halstan.de" or to any part of it, in any tab (CPU, Energy, Memory, ...). What options do I have? Is it a bug in Screen Time that kept it stuck? The good thing is that I know I used that website, the bad thing is that the last tab from it was closed on Monday (24.06.2024). I've also added a time limit of one hour to just that site, but then opening a new tab and browsing to that same website works with no problem on all devices. Any help in understanding and possibly solving the issue is much appreciated.

Running Big Sur on a 2017 Intel iMac, Activity Monitor shows a process for each web page tab open in Safari. Normally these processes end when I close that tab. examples: https://support.apple.com https://apple.stackexchange.com When I visit most sites, the process shows up, and the process ends when I close the tab for that web page or just type in another web address. But for one site, the web page hung in a frozen non-responsive state, requiring me to force-quit Safari. Strangely, the process kept running in Activity Monitor and consuming a large percentage of my CPU even after had closed Safari! This was a well known bank, https://53.com . I killed the process in Activity Monitor and tried to replicate the problem but now the page behaves properly. When I close the tab, or just choose another web site bookmark, the 'https://53.com ' process shuts down in less than 10 seconds. I am not running any extra advertisement killers or even the available Safari Content Blocker preferences. I do have Pop-up windows set for Block and Notify by default. Just wanted to ask if anyone can shed light on this behavior.

Reverse Proxy for Home Assistant with macOS Server 5.3.1 Created a website within Server App for EXTERNALHOSTNAME.TLD Selected SSL Certificate for EXTERNALHOSTNAME.TLD Enabled web app in Advanced Settings This webapp/reverseproxy setup works and Home Assistant is working as expected with no functional issues via macOS Server, **BUT**, the catch is that any request matching “/api/websocket” is reverse proxied through to home assistant, for any other hostnames, which isn’t ideal. I cant figure out how to configure this upstream Service Proxy to apply this reverse proxy for /api/websocket only for the external hostname for home assistant and not reverse proxy it for all other hostnames. Any pointers on how to get the websocket reverse proxy set up correctly just for the relevant hostname? The three files configured for this to work are as follows; **Webapp PLIST file** /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/webapps/EXTERNALHOSTNAME.ha_webapp.plist; includeFiles /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_ha_webapp.conf name EXTERNALHOSTNAME.ha_webapp displayName ReverseProxy - HomeAssistant installationIndicatorFilePath /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_ha_webapp.conf sslPolicy 0 **Webapp CONF file** /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_ha_webapp.conf; ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyRequests off ProxyPass / http://INTERNALHOSTNAME:8123/ ProxyPassReverse / http://INTERNALHOSTNAME:8123/ **MacOS Server Service Proxy CONF file** /Library/Server/Web/Config/Proxy/apache_serviceproxy_customsites_ha.conf ProxyPass /api/websocket ws://INTERNALHOSTNAME:8123/api/websocket ProxyPassReverse /api/websocket ws://INTERNALHOSTNAME:8123/api/websocket

I have a public apple calendar that I'd like to make viewable (read-only) on my website so that visitors can see my schedule. I believe this can be done with a google calendar but I'm not having luck finding ways to do this with an apple calendar. Even if there isn't built-in functionality, I'd still be happy with janky ad-hoc solutions. For example, one thing which I half-considered before turning to stackexchange would be to see if an always-on computer could periodically scrape the calendar off my icloud account and somehow convert it to html and automatically update my website. I think that's a last-resort sort of approach though. (That said, if it's basically the only way this would work, I'm happy to hear suggestions on how to go about it, but I'd of course prefer if there's a more elegant or intentionally designed way.) At minimum, I'd like visitors to be able to see when I have appointments; location and event name would be nice but not strictly necessary. --- **Update:** I have attempted to incorporate @Riley4067440653's answer, but as I mentioned in a comment I do not think it works as a permanent solution. Edits made to the apple calendar are not passing to the google calendar in a timely manner; changes made to the apple calendar over 12 hours ago are still not appearing on the google calendar. My understanding is that importing into the google calendar is a one-time process, and edits made to the apple calendar will *never* appear on the google calendar; I may be mistaken on that front, but regardless I do need edits to appear more promptly than 12+ hours later, so this solution doesn't work well for me. If there is a way to automatically propagate changes made to the apple calendar onto the google calendar, then @Riley4067440653's solution will work for me. Again, perhaps this can be done ad-hoc -- if so I would appreciate some advice on how to deploy it -- but I'd prefer intentionally designed solutions if possible. If there is no way to automatically propagate changes, then I am still in need of a solution to this problem. Also, to incorporate some comments with @nohillside into the body of this post: * I am seeking a solution that does not require me to switch off of apple calendar (for which it was clarified that the app "Fantastical" does not, but it's not clear to me how that app solves my problem), * I want visitors to the website to see my schedule, not my availability, * I want the website calendar to be read-only; visitors are *not* using it to schedule my free time with me, and * I want the website calendar to be either directly on my website or embedded (in like an iframe); I do not want to give visitors a link to an external site or require them to use/download a program.

What translator engine does Safari on Mac use?
Simple as that. What? (My guess is it's Deepl.com as it appears far superior to Google Translator. And to my knowledge, that is the only publicly available translator model that is better than Google's.)

Some services like Zoom or BlueJeans have capabilities of working both in app or in the browser. However when an appropriate app is installed links are automatically opened in the app by safari (macOS) without even a prompt in case of BlueJeans. So my question is: is it possible to prevent safari from launching app when I click a link that can be opened in that app? Ideally I want the link to open in safari like a regular website without even a prompt to open it in the app. However, a prompt, like one you can see in the image below for Brave Browser would also be ok, because currently Safari opens the BlueJeans app without even asking a permission. Just to be clear, I do not want to uninstall apps, because sometimes I do need them. Prompt to open link in corresponding app in brave

My goal is to save (mobile) webpages so that I can comfortably read them offline in iOS 14 on an iPhone. So far I've tried: 1. Asking the Safari reading list to save them offline, making sure to enable automatic saving for offline use in Safari settings. Unsurprisingly Safari doesn't save the items in my reading list, which results in lots of unusable entries (and a useless feature). 2. Saving the mobile page as a PDF through the system screenshot feature. The resulting PDF is just cut off at some arbitrary point making it impossible to read e.g. a long article. This happens both in reading mode and ordinary page PDFs. Unusable. 3. Saving the page as a .webarchive with Safari. This is the best alternative so far, but when I open the archive in Files I can't interact with the preview of it, making e.g. expandable sections unusable (one example is mobile Wikipedia article sections), and I'm not offered to open it in Safari (!) This also prevents me from using Safari's reading mode on it. 4. Saving the reading mode page as a .webarchive. Doesn't work — it just saves the source page, i.e. same result as #3. 5. Adding the actual .webarchive to Safari's reading list instead of to the Files app when asked where to save the archive. Unsurprisingly the reading list can't even save the page for offline use when handed the archive on a silver platter like this... How can I open my .webarchives in iOS Safari?

It all started with the installation of software from mac-torrent but probably it was Adobe Flash Player. It said that I had an old one and the system needs to update, so I gave the right to install it. But I think it was a malware that opens ad sites like "one x bet", "aliexpress malls", and mac control site and some business sites. The only way to stop this irritating behavior was to install Adblock, however, I don't want my mac to have that malware. Is there any way to get rid of it?

I recently purchased my first apple product and naturally a few questions popped up. However, I wasn't able to access any topics on the [Apple discussion forums](https://discussions.apple.com/) during the last week, because they seem unavailable. I tried from several devices. What really irritates me is the fact that this isn't mentioned anywhere (except for [here](https://www.iphonetricks.org/apple-support-forums-an-unexpected-error/)) where I would have expected that this would make news quite quickly or that a company that puts so much focus on customer service as Apple would at least give some sort of status update if one of its major services was out of service for such a long time. So is it just me who has this problem or is it maybe a regional thing? My current workaround is to use the cached sites.
