I tried to create new test memos, and those did not get moved as well. So, what about this is not workable? and can i benefit from the "Phone Link" app inside windows 11?

Move entire Notes.app database from iPhone to Windows PC?
I'd like to move the entire Notes.app database (all the notes, all the folders, all the file attachments inside the notes) from iPhone to Windows PC? I've scanned a lot of documents with my iPhone's Notes.app, and I want to back them up (and view them on my PC should the need arise).

So unbelievably I have *never* cleared my history in SMS/iMessages/Messages. Ostensibly, I should be able to scroll up and eventually see my first text message from my first gen iPhone. This is, unsurprisingly, taking up a considerable amount of space on my phone, but a big part of why I've never cleaned it out is that it contains a tremendous number of pictures of my daughters my wife has sent me over the years. It doesn't seem like these get saved to my photo roll and there doesn't appear to be any way to bulk export them. It may be worth noting that I use desktop messages in Yosemite and it seems work well, so there may be an approach I can use from that angle. What's the best way for me to archive all the photo attachments from almost seven years of text messages?

How to transfer entire iMessage conversations to computer?
I am getting a new iPhone come next month. I want to save all of my nostalgic conversations for the future. Is there a way to transfer an entire chat log to the computer in plain text? Or will I have to painstakingly take screenshot after screenshot as I scroll up in the text history?

Does the new M4 Pro chip support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 standard?
Do the new M4 Pro Mac Mini and M4 Pro Macbook Pro, which now have Thunderbolt 5 ports, support the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 standard? USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 supports transfer speeds up to ~2,000 MB/s for SSDs, but the current Macs (up to M3 series) do no not support them, and default to ~1,000 MB/s.

I recently acquired a MacBook Pro (Retina), OS Monterey, and turned iCloud syncing on for Documents and Desktop. It had downloaded (made local copies) more than 200GB of files from my iCloud, then auto-deleted half of them (locally), "Optimise storage" is checked. After about a day, it started a download of that large amount of files again, it took nearly 5 hours, although I hadn't clicked the download or remove download button near the files. It repeated; it happens once in about +/- 5 days plus the total size of files being downloaded is always different. The cache which is created by this process can be as large as I have 1 GB of the local storage remaining (totally I have 255 GB). The button X near the progress of download isn't clickable. I want to keep important files locally and download any other ones if they are needed. In another thread someone suggested using this command killall bird && rm -rf CloudDocs, after removing them, it just starts re-uploading and re-downloading all possible files, which takes much time. Please tell me how to get rid of this auto re-download/upload, it is a useless process that eats system resources. enter image description here

How to Monitor and Correlate File Upload/Download and Modification Events on macOS?

I want to know if there is any way to log events for every file upload, download, creation, modification (including create, edit, delete), and transfer/sharing on macOS — regardless of whether these events occur in browsers or other applications. My goal is to identify which file was uploaded or downloaded, and if possible, determine the destination or source URL for network transfers, despite encryption (HTTPS). I understand that getting a full-proof solution might not be feasible using a single method, and I'm open to combining several approaches. I prefer not to use a proxy-based solution because: - A proxy can interfere with existing services if one is already running on the host. - Proxies can add inefficiency and performance overhead. - I do not need to block events; I only want to monitor and log them. I have considered these options: 1. **Audit Logs / OpenBSM:** Using the macOS audit framework to log file system events (file creations, modifications, deletions) is one possibility. This can capture low-level file operations, but it does not directly correlate file operations with network upload or download events. 2. **Endpoint Security Framework (ESF):** ESF can observe system events such as file accesses and process activities. While it can efficiently log file events, an inherent challenge is to correlate these system-level events with network-level events (i.e. to determine which file has been uploaded, and *where* — the URL or hostname). 3. **Dynamic Instrumentation / Hooking:** Hooking network system calls (or even HTTPS library functions such as SSL_write) using tools like Frida could capture plaintext data before encryption. However, this raises challenges: - Handling different network libraries (SecureTransport vs. OpenSSL). - Ensuring reliability in capturing HTTP/HTTPS uploads. - Accurately correlating intercepted network data with file system activity. **Primary Challenges:** - **Correlating Files with Network Uploads:** I need to not only log when a file operation occurs locally but also determine the corresponding network event (for instance, an HTTP POST request to an upload URL) that transfers the file. - **Handling Encrypted Traffic:** Most modern browsers use HTTPS by default. Intercepting such traffic to extract payload details (like file names) involves overcoming challenges in TLS decryption, which is non-trivial without proxying or in-depth instrumentation. **My Question:** Is there a unified or combined approach to monitor and correlate file system events (uploads/downloads, modifications) with the network requests that represent those file transfers on modern macOS (e.g., macOS Sequoia 15.4.1)? In essence, how do I: - Log detailed file events (creation, modification, deletion) using the built-in macOS tools like the Audit Framework or Endpoint Security Framework? - Correlate these file events with network activity (uploads/downloads) to determine which file was transferred to which website? - Handle HTTPS-encrypted traffic to reliably extract the transfer details (e.g., target URL/hostname), without resorting to a proxy solution? I would appreciate any insights, sample code, or references on how to achieve this using macOS-native mechanisms, dynamic instrumentation, or a combination of both approaches. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am using Microsoft Lens on my iPhone, and after scanning 100 photos, the app freezes when I press "Done": instead of opening the menu to choose where to upload the scans, the app shows a "Processing" circle and never opens the plain upload menu where you can choose to upload to OneDrive, your Fotos or other media on the iPhone or online. I upload to OneDrive all the time, and I first thought that it is an authentication problem of OneDrive. But if you do not even enter the menu to choose "OneDrive", that thought should be wrong... I've force restarted the app and checked the app's permissions, my OneDrive login, and my internet connection, and many things more, but none of these actions seem to resolve the issue. Additionally, when I tap "My Scans", a warning pops up: > Going to My Scans will discard your current session. Are you sure you want to continue? I'm aware that this "discard" option means dropping all unsaved scans, so I avoided using it, as it would lead to losing the scans that haven't been uploaded yet. How can I see the menu again showing all the ways to upload the fotos after pressing "Done"? I am afraid of losing my photos. *I tag this with "ios" and "iphone" since I did not run into this on my Android. But I might be wrong in shrinking it down to this. As soon as you find the same problem on Android as well, drop a remark, and I will drop the tags.*

I've been asked to digitize a box of old CDs and move them onto an external SSD. For playback and data transfer, I've been using a MacBook Pro with an ASUS external disk drive. I also have access to a Windows desktop PC with an internal disk drive. Last week, I successfully digitized several CDs using both the MacBook and the PC. I can still play those files normally off the external SSD. But when I returned to my project this week, the MacBook/ASUS setup was suddenly no longer recognizing those same CDs -- nothing but my startup disk and external hard drive showed up in Disk Utility. I tried loading a CD to the PC, and it displayed .cda files rather than the .aiffs or .wavs it had displayed previously. I experimented with several other CDs; the problem occurred not only for CDs I'd already digitized, but also for ones I hadn't touched yet. Again, as of last week these CDs were recognized by both Mac and Windows as carrying .aiff and .wav files, which I was able to copy to the SSD with no problem. I tried fidgeting with the ASUS drive, and after awhile, Disk Utility did finally recognize one of the CDs. When I opened the CD in Finder, it displayed a list of .aiff files as anticipated. However, when I tried to test a data transfer by copying a single .aiff from the CD to the desktop, no dice -- just an endless "Estimating time to copy" notice, and a very sluggish Finder which eventually had to be relaunched. Similarly, neither VLC nor QuickTime could play the file, and both went non-responsive/had to be force quit when playback was attempted. In terms of purely just recovering the audio data, I can try using the PC setup to rip the CDs; I'm aware .cdas are a container/metadata format which don't carry any audio information, but I believe I should still be able to rip using Windows Media Player. As for the Mac setup, though, I'm very curious to know what went wrong? Should I try to hunt down an old CD player to check on playback that way? Any insight appreciated, cheers!

I wanted to transfer/import/absorb the Cache from our old (Secondary) server into our new server on the same network... Wondering if anyone has ever successfully imported a Caching Server's cache from another using the commands provided by Apple in macOS Help? sudo AssetCacheManagerUtil absorbCacheFrom /Volumes/ServerHD-1/Library/Application\ Support/Apple/AssetCache/Data read-only
Would anyone know under what conditions the command from Apple can be used successfully? Thanks in advance...

Yesterday my daughter got her iPhone 13. Coming from a Samsung, we used the *Move to iOS* app to get all her data and apps transfered. The app worked fine, and after some time the processes finished. I noticed a few things I do not understand: -Her photos and videos from her Samsung gallery were not transfered. There are only 4 photos in her camera roll now. -The apps on her Samsung that were found and recognised as iOS apps are just on her backscreen but not downloaded and installed automatically. I remember that when I used the Move to iOS app in 2022, the apps downloaded automatically. Now, she has to find each app in the appstore, selecting to download and then authorize *twice* with her sign-in code. (and after that I have to authorize the download as well despite I set otherwise in the Parental Control setting (limitations are off now, but I set *iTunes Store and App Store* to Install apps > allow, Delete apps > allow, In app purchases > allow. Demand password > Do not demand`.) In *App Store settings* I set Appdownloads > on. How can I set the parental control settings so she can download apps withouth my approval (though I would like to have choice between free and paid apps)? Is there a setting that I might have missed that made the photos and videos have not been transfered?

Is there any way to start the process of migrating from Android to iPhone using the iOS app (com.apple.movetoios) from scratch, after I made a mistake during a previous attempt? The process of moving from Android to Apple is strange, poorly documented and time-consuming. I made a mistake during the step where on the Android device, using the iOS app, I had to select many rows of data to transfer. I did not see that I had to scroll for more rows, I was excited that after many attempts Apple finally presented the 'transfer screen' and I wanted to move on before any of the 3 devices necessary during the process went back to sleep or ran out of power. As a result, only part of the personal data from Android was transferred to the iPhone. I wiped to iPhone yet again, to try and fix it, but now Apple installed the iPhone with the partial data that was already tied to the iCloud account. The problem is, I used a real name to create the iCloud account and it's my child's account. If I make a new iCloud account it will always be the Childsname Lastname_1 account. (but maybe that is the price to pay)

When transferring data to new mac, regardless of manual copy or restore from time machine backup, when opening chrome on the new mac chrome automatically resets itself. It means that extension data and cookies are gone and is generally a lot of other hassle. I will need to do this a couple of times soon. Is there any way to trick Chrome to believe that it is still on the same OS or disable this resetting behavior? From some experiments I think it at least detects: - Changes in hardware; using same bootable drive in different intel macs results in this behavior everytime I use it on a new mac - Changes in system configuration: after my mac is repaired (new logic board has same serial number), I had to recover the system from backup, and this happens

My wife has an iPhone, and has 40,000 pictures in her iCloud photos. Now she wants some older ones, that are on my Linux fileserver. My Windows 10 desktop has iCloud for Windows installed, and logged into her Apple ID. I can see her iCloud Photos in my iCloud Photos folder, and I have imported photos from her iPhone by dragging them into folders on my P: drive, after whcih I can process them from the Linux command line. On Windows, my photo library is mounted as drive P: (for pictures). When I drag photos from my photo library to the iCloud Photos folder in File Explorer, they show up in iCloud folder. Sometimes they can then be seen on her iPhone, other times not. I can't really see what the difference is. One set that worked will and comes up on her phone is from June 2018. One set that does not show up is from August 2016. The 2016 pictures are from a period when she had suppressed geo-tagging, but they do have GPS timestamps in their Exif metadata.
