Some time earlier this year I started getting my child's screen time requests in the Messages app. This has become really annoying. The whole thing seems half-baked and there are several issues:
1. Each request appears multiple times
2. The request, which goes to both my wife and me, shows up as coming from my child, but the request text says "Mama asked for more time".
3. I send my messages to my laptop as well, and there these messages all show a spinning fan while Messages loads more information, I guess.
4. It really locks up the Messages app. Sometimes it causes the app to crash. "Messages quit unexpectedly."
I tried searching for ways to disable this but I didn't find any good answers on the Apple support site. I can't see actual messages from my kid for all these stupid screen time requests.
Is there a way to disable this again?

How to manage child’s iPhone from parent’s Macbook

I have set up my child's iPhone using my **icloud.com** apple-id.
So we now have:
* Child apple id: **child@icloud.com**
* Parent apple id: **parent@icloud.com**
During the setup I received a code on my MacBook that I had to type in the iPhone.
After setup completed I cannot see my child's account in my MacBook's parental controls. So now how can I set time limits, allow apps and so on?
One possible reason could be that the apple-id associated with my MacBook was a different one from the apple-id I used to set up the iPhone. The apple-id I used to set up the iPhone was set up as one of the internet accounts on my MacBook. So the MacBook know about two ids:
* MacBook apple-id used for appstore: **othermail@example.com**
* Parent's other apple-id: **parent@icloud.com**
I have tried to fix this by removing the account that was associated with the previous apple-id and removing and then adding the icloud.com address I used to install the child's iPhone.
This did not fix the problem.
All I want is to be able to manage my child's iPhone, how can I do this from a MacBook? Is that even possible or can the iPhone only be managed from the iPhone itself using the 4 digit screen code I had to set up?
Also, is the parent side parental control tied to my apple-id or to my device? And in case of the former, does that mean I can access them (ie manage my child's iPhone) from any device I login and add my iCloud account (**parent@icloud.com**) to?

Yesterday my daughter got her iPhone 13. Coming from a Samsung, we used the *Move to iOS* app to get all her data and apps transfered. The app worked fine, and after some time the processes finished.
I noticed a few things I do not understand:
-Her photos and videos from her Samsung gallery were not transfered. There are only 4 photos in her camera roll now.
-The apps on her Samsung that were found and recognised as iOS apps are just on her backscreen but not downloaded and installed automatically.
I remember that when I used the Move to iOS app in 2022, the apps downloaded automatically. Now, she has to find each app in the appstore, selecting to download and then authorize *twice* with her sign-in code.
(and after that I have to authorize the download as well despite I set otherwise in the Parental Control setting (limitations are off now, but I set *iTunes Store and App Store* to
Install apps > allow
, Delete apps > allow
, In app purchases > allow
. Demand password
> Do not demand`.)
In *App Store settings* I set Appdownloads > on
.
How can I set the parental control settings so she can download apps withouth my approval (though I would like to have choice between free and paid apps)?
Is there a setting that I might have missed that made the photos and videos have not been transfered?

I know that in the previous iOS there was a weird issue where you had to turn off screen time in order to turn off web results for spotlight search and then turn it back on to hide the search settings, but now search has its own section and the relevant toggle is visible with screen time enabled so that can't be the issue.

Obviously the device is still under parental control and the location is enabled to be viewable but somehow this link between person and device has been broken.
How can I reestablish this link?

I am using a NextDNS to filter web traffic for my family's devices. NextDNS currently shows in the menu bar and can be toggled on and off with a simple click, which defeats the entire purpose of the tool.
I have tried using a combination of Vanilla (to hide the menu bar item) and AppLocker (to require credentials to access an app, in this case, Vanilla). However, Vanilla has an option in the menu bar to access Vanilla's settings that is not blocked by AppLocker, therefore allowing NextDNS toggle menu bar icon to still be accessed.
Back to square one I guess.
On my Macbook Air MacOS Monterey, there are other ways to configure NextDNS (network settings, terminal commands, profiles), but because I am also using ProtonVPN, it appears Proton and NextDNS only coincide seamlessly when NextDNS is installed via the app store. The app store version of NextDNS is the one that puts a toggle switch in the menu bar :/
I would like to permanently remove the NextDNS menu bar icon and/or password protect the NextDNS menu bar icons modifications. It would need to be permanent, as in either not needing to be redone every restart or done in a way that it is automatically triggered on startup. Any thoughts on this?
I also asked ChatGPT and it suggested writing an AppleScript and some other options, but it was not quite clear enough for me to pull off.
Thanks for any help :)

Is there a way to block a list of specific apps on macOS?
I have looked up solutions such as Cisdem, but there are some holes in the way it works that I don't like.
1. Unless you also block Activity Monitor, Terminal, and System Preferences, you can simply quit the Cisdem process or create a new user to get around it.
2. You have to block Activity Monitor, Terminal, and System Preferences to make it work well.
I want to block an app from running or even being installed on my Mac. The app can be installed via the App Store and the web. Not sure how to go about this. Enabling Parental Controls won't work as Administrator privileges are needed.
The specific app I want to block is Apple Configurator.
Any ideas?

I have an iPhone and MacBook which has screen time. My kid can bypass it
* By spamming unlock it seems that there is a way to prolong extra time endlessly!
* By doing factory reset kid simply can resign to new appleid to device without problem!
The answer is, the Mobile Device Management for iPhone and proprietary company lock for apple laptops provided for companies.

having given my daughter an old iPhone 6 (latest ios12) to use around the house I'm struggling to unblock certain websites. The error messages are slightly different whether in Safari directly or an in-app browser -
In-app browser says 'You cannot browse this page at "...." because it is restricted'
Safari says 'Safari cannot open the page. The error was: "The URL was blocked by a content filter".'
She was previously using a 1st gen iPad mini (ios9) and has her own limited/child Apple ID. On the iPad she would attempt to visit a website and upon being notified it was blocked, you could click a link to enter the parental password and unblock that site. Since restoring onto the iPhone it seems some of those restrictions have been passed on, in that some sites are accessible but others aren't. The problem is that when seeing an inaccessible site on iOS12, there is no direct link to unblock it.
Screen time was not set up initially, however upon turning this on, and either setting content restrictions to completely disabled, or having it enabled but having web contact set to unrestricted, or having web content limited but with specific urls in the 'always allow' section, I'm seeing the same behaviour whatever I do.
Where else can I adjust these types of settings?
Edit: I've noticed in settings/safari that favourites are greyed out and set to 'allowed sites' I can view any site which is already listed in favourites but cannot find anywhere to edit the favourites.

I'm having a hard time configuring my daughter's iPhone with Screen time.
I would like to completely block some apps during the weekdays and allow some time for them during the weekends.
Screen time only allows me to set a limit strictly greater than 0, so I have to set all the apps I want to block to 1 minute. Knowing that she can auto-extend for 1 additional minute, an app that I want blocked has instead 2 minutes of usage per day (not a big deal but still...). There is a "Always Allowed apps" list but not a "Never Allowed apps" list. Uninstalling the apps is also not a solution as I want them available during the weekend.
Is there a way, with Screen time or another app, to have a better control and put in place what is described above?

Every week on Monday downtime turns on and I can't do anything outside the limitations my dad has set for me. Every time I get downtimed, I go into Settings>Screen Time and i see that downtime is actually off. Originally I thought htat the school's wifi was messing with things on my phone since they do block a lot iCloud services. I currently use a 2nd generation iPhone SE running the latest version of iOS.
Things I have tried one or more times:
- Rebooting
- Telling my dad to just shut off screen time entirely (obviously didn't work)
- Updating iOS (I updated to 16.4 a few days before this edit, didn'f fix anything)
- Turning off app limits (don't know what my dad's thinking was there but it didn't do anything)
Things that I have not tried yet:
- Reinstalling iOS
- Signing out and signing back in
One thing that has started happening recently is me getting a downtime notification at around 3pm saying "426 minutes remaining before downtime" or something. Then around 5 minutes later, downtime is on. Here is a screenshot of the notification:

This has been happening for a long time now, and we have only found one *temporary*
solution: Toggling downtime. My dad says he doesn't have any clue why this keeps happening so regularly, and he is the only one who can do anything about it. This same problem was happening to my late 2014 Mac mini.

I am using macOS screen time as a mechanism for parental controls. Before updating to Catalina, the screen time tracked the total time a user was logged in with his/her credentials, regardless of what apps they used or games were played. After the update, it tracks some individual apps.
The problem is that screen time is not tracking for example the time used for java apps. E.g with Minecraft, only the Minecraft launcher is tracked but not the game itself which runs java.
Is there any way to enable the screen time to track the usage of the java apps and/or total login time? Total logged-in time matches with Finder usage time, but open can not add Finder to the list of tracked apps.
The question is, is it possible to add java or Finder to the list of the apps tracked by screen time?
An alternative solution may be third-party software, but those I haven't yet looked for.

Surprisingly, not all children live solely with one guardian. Is there any way that a child's device can be controlled by more than one adult?
The situation: My ex-wife and I have 50/50 custody of our kids, and our 13-year-old has an iPhone SE. He has an Apple ID linked to my own and Family Sharing is set up for the two of us. To help reinforce healthy phone habits, I have all extraneous apps (Instagram, Youtube, etc.) restricted by default, and only turn them on when he is specifically allowed to be using them. However, he's at his mother's place half the time, so if he wants to use his phone she has to contact me to allow them, then again when time's up. Fortunately, we are co-parenting fairly well and have very open communication when it comes to the kids, so it's not a big deal in that regard, but it's extremely inconvenient, and I'm not always able to stop what I'm doing and turn on his apps immediately.
Is it possible to associate his Apple ID with hers and add him to her Family Sharing group as well? Alternatively, if I add her as a family member to my group, can I give her the same full parental control access as me?
