More than a year ago I transferred all my data from an android to an IPhone 14 but recently I got an IPhone 15 pro and upgraded it to IOS 18 and I went back to my old recordings from android and I indeed can play them on my voice memos app but I cannot send then anywhere because apparently they do not exist, when I try to send them through IMessage, it takes me to the conversation but there is nothing attached, same with email, nothing attached, same with notes, I click share but the note is empty , when I tried to send it through telegram the share page disappeared as if it has shared but it did not, nothing was shared, when I tried through WhatsApp then it shows my a black screen, as if like a black photo trying to be sent but I cannot even send it because nothing happens when I click the WhatsApp share button, I tried saving it to files and the page of sharing disappears but it saves nothing, when trying to airdrop, it doesn’t even show the file trying to be shared, it just says failed or says waiting for eternity and lastly when I tried to copy the link it doesn’t paste anything because it didn’t copy anything since the file apparently doesn’t exist so it seems like the recording is on my phone but the file literally do not exist and I’ve searched for an answer but no one ever talked about something like this so I wonder if there is literally anything I can do because I think I have tried everything like duplicating it etc. Like please help me out if that’s possible, thanks

I did a:
grep -r PATTERN ~/Library`
for a known unique-ish pattern from one of the transcripts. It's been running for 45 minutes and hasn't found any matches yet.
The audio recordings (*.m4a
) and *.waveform
files are stored here:
~/Library/Group\ Containers/group.com.apple.VoiceMemos.shared/Recordings/
I noticed a CloudRecordings.db sqlite
database file (binary) in that directory, and none of the table names look obviously transcript-specific. I did the same grep command in this directory, and it completed and didn't find any matches.

I also did a:
find ~/Library/ -iname '*transcript*'
which returned 100 filenames/dirnames. One that looked maybe related was:
/Users/robbednark/Library//Accessibility/com.apple.RTTTranscripts.sqlite
Nothing obviously transcription-related in those table names either, and grep -r PATTERN ~/Library/Accessibility
completed without any matches.

I have over 600 of voice memos on iPhone 2020 SE (actually recorded on Apple Watch) ranging from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. How do I batch move them to a Linux PC, having the date of recording info without the woes of manually ticking 600 files? I've tried just selecting them and sending to Dropbox, but that is painfully unreliable:
* Dropbox does not synchronize more than 10 files at once,
* few out of those 10 are just left behind and unsynchronized by Dropbox,
* the date of recording is lost when copying files this way.
**UPD** Using answers from How can I transfer large files from Linux to iPad over a cable or wifi? didn't help:
*
ideviceinfo
keeps saying "ERROR: No device found!"
* Using third-party file managers is futile since they can't "see" the recording files, those are considered some other kind of files by iOS for some reason.
* FileMaster app actually can share the files "sent" to it, but then again, I'd have to tick 600 hundred files to send the files into FileMaster and then click 600 hundred times in its web UI to download the files. My question is focused on **batch** aspect of transferring.

I recently conducted a 1h30 interview using voice memo, but when trying to save the file the app froze and did not allow me to press any button. It showed that the interview was 1h30 long, though. I had to close the app, because it was completely frozen for 30 min, and it did only save 17 min of the audio. It was a very important interview, and I was hoping that there was a way I could recover the complete file. I later tested again, with another interview, an the same thing happened - an 1h long interview was reduced to 14 min.
Is there a way to recover my recording?

I have no interest in iCloud for syncing sizeable data like Voice Memos. It is quickest for me to just connect my iPhone to my Mac via the USB cable and do my syncing that way.
Many changes have occurred in recent times, with iTunes now completely replaced on the Mac.
On Catalina 10.15.2 and iOS 13.3, this is what it currently looks like:
There are many Voice memos on my iPhone:
But on my macOS Finder I do not see a mention anywhere of Voice Memos being present on my iPhone:
Similarly, in my Mac's Music.app there is simply nothing showing up as detected on my iPhone:
As for Voice Memos.app, there appears to be no connection to the iOS counterpart whatsoever, it is empty:
Has Apple abandoned USB transfer functionality between the iPhone and the Mac?
How can I do this? Do we now have to use third party tools like AnyTrans despite these both being Apple devices?

I'm trying to export all Voice Memos from my Mac (running macOS Sequoia 15.0), including timestamps and names (as shown in Voice Memos). If Voice Memos stores location co-ordinates inside its database, getting that would be nice as well.
I can drag-and-drop Voice Memos one at a time into Finder to export them. I can also use cmd+c & cmd+v to copy them into Finder. I have hundreds of Voice Memos (over several years), so saving them one at a time is not feasible (or, at least, very tedious and likely unreliable). Cmd+a or shift-select to select multiple recordings at a time does not work.
I've looked at this to automate the process:
https://github.com/robbyHuelsi/macOSVoiceMemosExporter/blob/master/main.py
But, for the path it uses:
os.path.expanduser("~"), "Library", "Application Support", "com.apple.voicememos", "Recordings", "CloudRecordings.db"
Which doesn't exist on my computer (apparently the location and/or the way Voice Memos stores them got changed).
So, is there a better way to reliably and automatically export all Voice Memos, including metadata (at least timestamp and name) to a folder, than (1) copy-pasting every recording manually, or (2) writing a script that uses keyboard shortcuts to automate copy-pasting each Voice Memo one at a time?

How can I get an audio file that plays the same as voice memos with Skip Silences enabled?
The voice memos app doesn't yet support this directly. Following some advice found online, I've tried ticking the Skip Silence box before sharing the file, but that doesn't actually work (it just shares the original).
My current solution is to screen record myself playing the voice memo, airdrop the screen recording to my macbook, then use ffmpeg to convert the screen recorded video back into an audio-only file. This "solution" has several drawbacks: have to waste the time of listening to the whole recording without letting my phone sleep (so I have to at least keep my finger on the phone pretend-scrolling or so to stop it from sleeping), and that I can't do the entire process of generating the silences-removed file on my phone.
I would like to be able to record myself dictating something and email it directly from my phone with the silences removed.

Is there a method to transfer iPhone Voice Memos to the cloud or a Windows PC en masse while keeping the original metadata (date created, et cetera)?
This is rather a last resort—I have previously submitted a version of this to Quora ([here][1]) and the official Apple Support Community ([here][2]) on April 8; the Reddit communities r/iphonehelp ([here][3]), r/techsupport ([here][4]), and r/applehelp ([here][5]) on March 18/19; r/DataHoarder ([her...
This is rather a last resort—I have previously submitted a version of this to Quora (here ) and the official Apple Support Community (here ) on April 8; the Reddit communities r/iphonehelp (here ), r/techsupport (here ), and r/applehelp (here ) on March 18/19; r/DataHoarder (here ) on March 15; and in an earlier stage r/iphonehelp (here ) and r/applehelp (here ) again on February 23 and 29, respectively. (Why it's been so long for me continue pursuing this is another story.) I *highly* recommend people read at least the Quora and Apple Support Community post for more context.
Simply put, I want to migrate the Voice Memos currently clogging my iPhone 8 Plus to somewhere else, including context like the ***exact*** time they were recorded. If the Windows tools I have could directly access the file system of an iPhone, this would be a non-issue—I would just use DMDE, FreeCommander, or robocopy to copy them to an external drive while retaining metadata, else use DMDE or Clonezilla to just image the whole thing. But unfortunately, since Apple "Thinks Different", this is not an option. While I know you can back up your iPhone files to a Windows PC using iTunes, I don't know for sure whether that retains their (Date created/Date modified) metadata.
**So, is there any option for me?**

However, I want to ask the opposite:
Is it possible to record a voice-memo in iPhone or in MacOS, and to see/play that recording file from within the Apple Watch?
Currently I see only the "Watch Recordings" folder's content when I open the Voice Memos app in Apple Watch. Of course everything is synchronized in cloud.

I attempted to send two large voice memos to an email recipient as attachments, but the server rejected the email (I suspect due to the size of the attachments) and it remains unsent on my iPhone.
[The original voice memos in my voice memo utility have since been damaged (my fault, long story) and I'd really like to retrieve these two files if possible.]

. Every time I'd record something, an m4a file would pop into that library, which I could then process using other tools. This was great.
Suddenly, this stopped working. The voice memos still show up in the app: They're all right there. But that path is now empty.
I tried right-clicking an entry in Voice Memos and choosing Show in Finder, but that only yields a temporary directory, not where the recordings "actually" live.
Any idea? Is this a recent macOS update thing? what's weird is that they definitely show up in the app, but not in the folder on my filesystem.

For many years I've used the Voice Memo app to record quick things I encounter in life. These events are of course, one-off things that can't be reproduced again, so the recordings are important to me.
Just now, I went to look for a voice memo from a year or two ago. I got a pop up asking me if I wanted to enable iCloud sync for voice memos. My suspicion for why I got this message, was that earlier this year I purchased an iCloud subscription and enabled iCloud backups for the first time ever on my phone, but had not launched the voice memos app since. I figured it was a feature now active because I had somewhere to sync stuff to (I could be totally wrong in this theory however).
I said yes because why would one not want your memos synced to iCloud, and the app came up. But, it has only about a dozen memos in it, and none later than 2020. In particular, the one that I was looking for, is totally gone.
A quick Google revealed that I'm not alone in this:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253914202
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252875370
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250886054
The third item here, might not be exactly the same as what I encountered, but still seems quite similar.
There are no deleted recordings to recover. There are no voice memos anywhere on icloud.com. Voice memos for icloud was never enabled prior to right now.
I'm not about to attempt a full restore of my phone, as multiple past experiences with this has shown me that in so doing I would be forced to upgrade to the most recent iOS, and I'm on iOS 14 and unwilling to use 15.
- Does anyone know how/why this would happen, and how to prevent it in the future?
- Is there any way to find and recover the missing memos?

When I open a renamed voice memo file (macOS or iOS generated) in VLC, the playlist name shown is the one generated by Voice Memos (usually the last know location of the machine on which the memo was recorded*). When changing the filename of the memo, the playlist name stays the one that was generated by the Voice Memos app.
Checking the metadata with various standard terminal tools †, does not show the Voice Memos generated name (which I thought should be a metadata) from where VLC fetches the playlist name.
Here is how to reproduce the "issue":
1. Record a voice memo with the iOS Voice Memos app°;
2. Transfert the file to a Mac (e.g., with AirDrop);
3. Rename the file to whatever you wish;
4. Open the file with VLC;
5. In my case, in VLC, the playlist name of the Voice Memos will be the one given by the Voice Memos app for iOS and not the filename.
My questions:
- Where is the name given by the Voice Memos app (which should be a metadata) stored?
- How can I change above-mentioned metadata so it is reflected in VLC's playlist name?
----
*That option can be changed in Preferences (macOS) or Settings (iOS).
†I did not test with
because it is not standard on macOS.
°In macOS voice memos are stored in ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.voicememos/Recordings
----
System used:
- macOS Monterey 12.4
- Voice Memos 2.3 for macOS
- iOS 15.4.1
