twice).
Ideally there would be a good way to do this, but if that doesn't work, hacky is the next best thing. An AppleScript or Hammerspoon script that instantly pops up a Google Docs window, and then inserts the result is better than nothing.
Given that things like this https://dictation.io/speech exist, or this jsfiddle it seems like it should be possible to at least have an extension that can interface with other applications to enable dictation input, but I haven't found any yet.
Is there any way to somehow use this instead of the built in transcription, e.g. with a keyboard shortcut?

However, I have been unable to find commands to navigate, corrected misspelled/misunderstood words, and edit partially written messages.
Are there commands for this? Or is there a way to program them? I don't need very specialized functions. Just navigation and editing.

I'm working with an English external keyboard with a Mac (currently running Sonoma) hat also has a built-in German keyboard which I only use occasionally. I use dictation in both English and German. Now, my problem is that when I switch dictation from English to German, my Mac seems to think the keys jump around on my keyboard :-) and switches the input source to German, too. In fact, I have not found a way to have German dictation without having to switch the keyboard back to English when I want to type something again, which is pretty annoying.
I am switching dictation language not in the settings, but in the popup that appears when using the dictation shortcut. (see screenshot below). In case that matters: I have German, English "US international - PC" and "Britsh - PC" input sources installed, for the different keyboards.
So, is there a way to switch dictation to German while keeping the keyboard input in English, or is there another workaround I could use to make this preference change more streamlined?

As a person who uses speech to text very often, I need a reliable method of conversion. While I know this technology is not perfect, but I keep running into the same error and wonder if there is something I can do. Here is the problem:
I have a friend named Kasey, and when I refer to this person while using dictation, the speech to text engine will output
K.C.
99% of the time
In an attempt to remedy this, I went to Settings/General/Keyboard/Text Replacement and inputted the following rules:
- KC Kasey
- K.C Kasey
- K.C. Kasey
What's interesting is that if I say Kasey at the start of the sentence the speech to text output will be correct. I found a possible solution that worked for someone else HERE , but I can't navigate to those settings with the version of iOS that I have
My presumption here is that text replacement only works while typing, and does not affect text that is generated from speech. If this is the case, how can I remedy my problem?

Is there a way to have iOS voice dictation spell out numbers? I mean speaking 145 and having it write "one hundred forty five"; this would be useful in English and other languages. Although it’s not that common to spell out numbers in English, in my experience it seems a lot more common in foreign languages such as Italian and German. It’s really difficult to spell out the very long words in those languages and so this would be a gr8 feature
I’ve done a lot of searching and tried different things but nothing seems to work, including here on stack exchange where almost everything on this topic is several years old. In fact some of the posts I read indicate that there was the reverse problem years ago that was solved by saying “numeral” beforehand to avoid spelling the number.
Update (March 2023): recently, I accidentally found that numbers will be spelled out when you say something like "lessons (or exercises) two through nine", but this only seems to work with numbers less than 10
Edit:
In response to @MeanAverageMeanie I installed GBoard and tried dictating "eleven plus fourteen equals twentyfive" in Italian, German, and English. Unfortunately, it still produced numerals rather than spelled words in each case, as seen below using Gboard within the iOS Mail app:

For example I might use Telegram or Line, and need to send a message in Korean or German, but I want to use speech recognition in English as this is the language I commonly speak. What's the fastest way to do so?
Currently I use the Google Translate app to transcribe and translate. However this requires me to copy paste the resulting translation into the target application. Is there a more efficient way to do so?

I use a speak recognition program called Dragon Dictation. When I work I use the program for mouse clicks but I have to say "mouse click" which doesn't seem like a big deal but when you're saying it 100 times a day it would be so much easier to just say "click". Most of the commands I can see in AppleScript code and I can copy and paste it to make my own commands. However, the mouse clicks are not shown for some reason.
**Update:**
Dragon Dictation is no longer supported on Mac computers. Here is an alternative for mouse clicks: https://github.com/bobbymay/Dictation-for-macOS

- Can I activate dictation from command line?

I have a Mac Mini M1 running Ventura. I am using a text editor, but I have tried this in other software, including Notes.
From time to time I try to give Dictation a go, but there are some things I can’t get working. In particular, it doesn’t matter what I try, I can’t get a new paragraph or new line.
According to [Commands for dictating text on Mac](https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh40695/mac) saying
new paragraph
or new line
should work, but all I get is an extra space on the same line.
I accept that I speak with an Australian accent, but it has no trouble with the rest of the words I dictate, so I don’t think it’s the accent; anyway, the accent isn’t so outlandish.
What is the secret to getting it to work?

I use the speech dictation tool to dictate text. But I do so in two different languages. To change the language of the dictation tool requires mouse clicking a few times which I try to avoid (hence the use of dictation tool). Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut that cycles between the two dictation languages?
## Previous knowledge on this topic
A previous answer was given in 2012 using Apple script and bash scripts, see [How to use applescript to toggle the language setting of new dictation tool (10.8)](https://stackoverflow.com/a/11720145/6371439) . Unfortunately this no longer works due to changes in macOS. Daniel suggests an alternate script in the same thread that worked in 2020, but as they correctly predict, it also no longer works in 2023.
I'm not able to adapt either of Daniel or Lri's scripts to work with Ventura. For reference, this is Lri's suggestion
delay 0.3 -- time to release modifier keys if the script is run with a shortcut
tell application "System Preferences"
reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
end tell
tell application "System Events" to tell process "System Preferences"
tell pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window 1
click
if value is "English (United States)" then
click menu item "French" of menu 1
else
click menu item "English (United States)" of menu 1
end if
end tell
end tell
quit application "System Preferences"
And this was Daniel's updated version
tell application "System Preferences"
reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
end tell
delay 1
tell application "System Events" to tell application process "System Preferences"
tell pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window 1
click
if value is "English (United States)" then
click menu item "Hungarian (Hungary)" of menu 1
else
click menu item "English (United States)" of menu 1
end if
end tell
end tell
quit application "System Preferences"
I have via some help surmised that the "updated name" of
com.apple.preference.speech
is x-apple.systempreferences:com.apple.Keyboard-Settings.extension
. But substituting this in either code above fails to yield positive results, instead giving me the following error
> error "System Settings got an error: Can’t get pane \"x-apple.systempreferences:com.apple.Keyboard-Settings.extension\"."
A similar question was asked recently , but got no answers.
## To sum up
I'm looking for a way to easily and quickly change between two languages in the dictation tool. The solution should preferably create a shortcut, and use either an apple script or a bash script. Though I am open to other solutions if they are viable.
---
# Edit, 2024-03-05
This question has been marked as a duplicate of a [previous answer](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/59323/how-can-i-change-the-language-for-dictation-on-the-fly) . This is wrong. The previous answer *might* have worked for old versions of macOS. My question is specific to Ventura (or now, Sonoma), as per the title. The inner workings of macOS has changed enough in the intervening years that that answer no longer works.
lxgr's suggestion of working with changing input methods seems to be the best solution so far. But I would prefer to not have to change my keyboard layouts when I'm dictating. So I hope we can keep the question open in case anyone else finds a solution.

As of now, I always have to manually navigate through the menus in the System Preferences which if far from convenient. I've tried to see if there are any pre-defined actions in Automator, but found none.

- Input to M2 Mac mini is a Blue Yeti external mic connected via USB.
- Output audio through my AirPods Pro
So, audio input for both macOS dictation and Zoom is through the Yeti Mic.
