My iPod Classic 4th Gen has worked well for many years. However, recently the hard drive has gone finicky. It will start sometimes, not others. When it doesn't boot, it just hangs on an Apple logo. Is it corrupted? I would like to make it run again, if possible. How should I go about this? I can use both a Mac and a Windows computer if needed.
I don't want to restore it if I don't have to. I had backed up all of the music, but there were photos on it that I would like as well. Is there any way for me to get these off?

Does anyone have any solutions that dont involve having to keep the old hardware just to sync an iPod. Two versions of iTunes installed simultaneously for example if that is possible?

Is my 4th gen iPod classic causing battery depletion?

I bought a 4th gen iPod classic with a replaced battery. It soon got to the point where it didn't have enough battery to play a single song and wouldn't even display anything unless it was plugged in and charging.
I bought a new battery and did the replacement myself. It is behaving the same. Is it likely to get two bad batteries in a row, or could it be something in the iPod itself that is causing this behavior?
Should I get a third battery?

I have an iPod classic 120GB, it had a broken harddrive, so I swapped it for a generic SD/CF to ZIF adapter. Now it show the "Connect to iTunes to restore" screen as expected (it previously showed the red X and "go to apple.com/support" message). When plugging it in, both on Windows and macOS, it is properly recognized as an iPod that needs to be restored as expected. However, after the iPod software is downloaded and the restore process has started, it keeps going for a few mins but then seems to freeze, with the iPod still showing "Do not disconnect".
On macOS I when checking the logs I see 2 relevant logs:
From iPodUpdater.log:
The disk activity light on my SD/CF -> ZIF Adapter also stops lighting up and the timing coincides with the crash report from above.
I'm running an M1 Macbook for these logs, but I tried restoring the iPod via Finder, via iTunes (running via Retroactive) and on Windows to the same end result.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

iPod Classic no longer fully syncs via Apple Music app

I love my iPod Classics. Alas, I am bummed out because Apple stopped supporting it. My 80GB device still syncs perfectly via the Apple Music app on my 2013 MacBook Pro. The 160GB device does not. It starts syncing, but after a minute, the Mac screen displays the message "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read or written to." 8,035 of the 8,287 songs were synced, which is not bad I guess. I created a dynamic playlist in Apple Music containing the last 100 songs added; only 1 song made it over to the same playlist on the 160GB device.
Does anyone have a suggestion to get my 160GB device to sync 100%? Thanks.

What version of iTunes dropped synchronization support for iPod Classic?

I have an 6th generation iPod Classic (model [MC297LL](https://everymac.com/systems/apple/ipod/specs/ipod-classic-late-2008-2g-specs.html)) . Current versions of iTunes no longer support this device, so I'm using an older Mac to sync my music, using iTunes 10.5.2. My primary machine is a 2015 "Core i7" MacBook Pro (model [MacBookPro11,4](https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.8-15-iris-only-mid-2015-retina-display-specs.html)) .
To avoid having to keep a decade+ old desktop computer set up in my house, I was hoping there might be an OS version compatible with my MacBook Pro that I could install that had a still-compatible version of iTunes. Specifically, I plan to install it as a bootable partition on an external drive.
According to [this OS compatibility chart](https://eshop.macsales.com/guides/Mac_OS_X_Compatibility) , the oldest version of the OS that can be run on my laptop is OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. I've installed OS 10.10.5 using [the installer](http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/061-41343-20191023-02465f92-3ab5-4c92-bfe2-b725447a070d/InstallMacOSX.dmg) proved by Apple in its [How to get old versions of macOS](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683) documentation. This comes included with iTunes 12.2.1.16. However, I do not see my iPod Classic show up when I connect it, which leads me to suspect this version of iTunes is too new.
Before I spend even more time tracking down and installing version 10.10.3 of OS X and/or an older version of iTunes compatible with Yosemite, I would like to know whether this is even doable on this machine. The [History of iTunes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_iTunes) Wikipedia article makes no mention of when support for the iPod Classic was dropped from iTunes, and I have not had luck finding this information in a web search.
What version of iTunes dropped support for syncing music with the iPod Classic? What is the latest version of iTunes that supports it, and the latest version of the Macintosh operating system that it can be run on?

But when I play the songs on my iPod and try to see the lyrics only English lyrics are shown. When I try to see lyrics of Hindi songs the Devanagari text is not shown and the lyrics page is blank. The same is true for the song titles. The Hindi lyrics can be seen under the song info in iTunes. Is there a software or app which can be added to the iPod to allow it to show Devanagari text?
Thanks,

What does the model prefix P mean on an ipod mini?
I have two 2nd generation ipod minis, one green and one blue. One lists itself as model P9802B and one as M9806B. I know the last numerical digit indicates the colour, but what did the P or M prefix indicate? Apple's website only lists the M variant. One is the iPods is personalised.

My parents were digging through some stuff looking for something and found an old, classic iPod. I'd like to get the music off of it (I use a small mp3 player, so ideally I'd just take the music off and download it onto my own device). The problem is that it's been sitting in a box for probably around 7 or 8 years, and it's got a 'very low battery' screen and won't charge (as in, I left it for twelve hours, and no dice).
Searching around, I was able to put it into disk mode, but the 'restore iPod' that gives you would put it back in factory mode...presumably meaning the loss of all the music on it, even though it would probably fix the device.
What are my options here? Is it even possible to do what I want at this point? Thanks!

How can I ensure that all personal data is erased and overwritten, or as they say "wiped?"

However, his iTunes is not in sync with his iPod, as his computer hard drive was damaged, and all of his iTunes data lost. Because of this, we have not been able to back up the iPod, and if it is damaged, he will have to rename thousands of songs again.
Is there a way to sync the music from his iPod **to** his iTunes, or any other possible way to backup the iPod data?

I've started diagnosis mode on my iPod Classic and went to SMART DATA. This basically means th iPod runs in disk mode as an external hard drive and is connected to a windows pc. I’m unable to research these data points and don’t know what they mean:
Retracts: 58
Reallocs: 16376
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 643
Start/Stops: 8781
Temp Current: 34C
Temp: Min 14C
Temp: Max 56C
When I load more than 2GB of songs onto it, it loads up the software and then it sipmly says "no songs" on the screen, even when itunes shows that some memory is occupied
Can any of this explain what’s wrong with my iPod?
