Is anyone able to install a generic printer driver for old Canon printers? I have an old MP140 for which Canon is no longer updating drivers. My Mac doesn't automatically find any drivers so I'm stuck trying to add the printer without any drivers - which my Mac keeps me from doing by graying out the *Add* button: screenshot I'm hoping to find a way to get this printer running with some generic 3rd (4th even!) party software. I tried connecting the printer via USB cable and ran into the same problem.

First off, I hope this is correct forum and not Stack Exchange for instance. I have Apple M3 Max chip MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.4.1 With the last 2 OS updates I've received the attached Mac message: apple message I use Canon IJ Scan Utility V 1.4.0 and my MX922 has driver 3.031 installed. Current driver update available is 3.041 and I'm pretty sure there is an update for the App - I forgot to check. Lately the app has been a little wonky - takes longer than usual to scan or occasionally freezes up and I have to force quit. I'd like to update the driver and app if applicable, but I am worried about either not being compatible with Sequoia. I dont want to update the system into "incompatibility" and have a busted app or unusable MX922. Suggestions? Can anyone can tell me if the latest versions will work for sure with my version of macOS with no issues? Update driver and app or what?? Just keep putting up with it? Looking for help. Thank you!!

I have absolutely no knowledge or experience in using Applescript or Automator. I'm hoping by using either to create an app (or script) that will print a test page off my printer automatically. I know how to open the printer app (Canon iX6800 series.app), but I'm stuck from there with the dialog box not knowing how to continue to do the following steps: 1. Run "Canon iX6800 series" - I got this part… 2. Select "Settings" or Command S 3. Select "Utility" 4. Select "Print Test Page" 5. Click "OK" 6. Quit the app. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. I can send the actual app to whoever might need it. Thanks in advance. George

I have a Canon EOS camera. Since I updated my mac mini to Sequoia, the Canon EOS utility that I use to download the images stopped working. I'm not very confident that Canon will come with an update soon. By googling a bit, I found out about the Image Caputure app, which I can actually use to download the images. But in order to download and organize the images with a script, it would be very useful if I could somehow 'mount' the camera. Given that Image Capture can communicate with the camera, I'd hope this is somehow possible, but I have no clue how (when running diskutil list, the camera does not seem to show up). So my question is, can I mount my camera, and if so, how do I do this?

Two days ago, I installed [Canon's software](https://downloads.canon.com/webcam/EOSWebcamUtility-MAC1.3.16.pkg.zip) to use my DSLR as a webcam, using the link I found on [this page](https://www.canon-europe.com/cameras/eos-webcam-utility/) . The installer required me to override MacOS' security settings. I did so, thinking that it is required for the extension to access my Canon camera. Now, I inserted a USB drive to my computer and got this request (in French) to allow EOSWebcamUtility to access the external volume. enter image description here Did I install a malware? Is there a valid reason why I had to manually bypass the security settings during installation? Is there a legitimate reason why this app asks to scan my drives?

I bought a new M2 Mac mini, my first Apple Silicon Mac. The Canon MP990 Scanner still scans fine with VueScan, but printing now fails. I'd set up the Intel Macs with Gutenprint (I use HomeBrew for as many installs as possible) which worked fine with them and I'm running Ventura (same as my former Macs). I’m *avoiding Rosetta* because I want to set this up to be as future-proof as possible. So I installed Gutenprint on the M2 MacMini with Homebrew (fresh M2 install), then tried to set up the printer (USB connection) but had to use the CUPS settings at http://localhost:631/ to add it and assign a "Generic PostScript Printer" driver (System Settings doesn't offer a generic driver). I also installed Ghostscript (a stab in the dark) and generated a "Generic GDI Printer" Ghostscript .ppd file at OpenPrinting (an interesting resource), put it in /Library/Printers/PPDs/ but it was rejected (presumably not for Apple Silicon Macs and/or not 64 bit) when I chose it in the printer setup. The printer now appears under "Printers & Scanners", the job goes through (a PDF, very slowly) and the printer queue becomes empty. However, nothing gets printed and the printer shows as "idle". Has anyone managed to get an older Canon printer working? There are a few success stories, but nothing beyond what I’ve tried. **UPDATE:** I just spent 3 days on this, having tried every possible solution both suggested here and out there, with no luck. I’m now considering a new laser printer. The scanner still works with VueScan, though…

I have a MacBook Air (M1, 2020) running Ventura 13.5.2, and am trying to connect my camera (Canon PowerShot SX220 HS, released 2011) to it via USB. The Mac only has USB-C ports, and the camera only has a USB-A cable, but I join them using an adapter. No matter what I do, the Mac does not "see" the camera, either in "Finder", or when I type ls /Volumes at a command prompt. Sometimes "Disk Utility" can show an external drive which is not automatically connected, but that does not "see" the camera either. I know the adapter is okay because I have tested it independently. I know the cable and camera are okay, because I can connect the camera to either a Windows laptop or my old Linux desktop. Is there anything I do to make my Mac "see" this device which I know is connected to it? *** **Extra information**: It appears under System Information -> USB devices USB 3.1 Bus: Host Controller Driver: AppleT8103USBXHCI Canon Digital Camera: Product ID: 0x322c Vendor ID: 0x04a9 (Canon Inc.) Version: 0.02 Serial Number: [redacted] Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s Manufacturer: Canon Inc. Location ID: 0x01100000 / 1 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 2 Extra Operating Current (mA): 0 Also, according to this Canon page the file format is "Design rule for Camera File system, DPOF (Version1.1) compliant", whatever that is.

I have two macOS systems, one on Monterey (Intel) and one on Ventura (Apple Silicon), both with latests updates etc. I also have a Canon LiDE 220 scanner. On the Monterey system this scanner works perfectly using the App Image Capture app, and has done for a number of years. On the Ventura system, the same scanner has also worked well using Image Capture, but recently (within the last month) it start failing with an error messages like this: enter image description here The problem being that until I saw that error message I didn't even realize that the scanner had a lock switch! Of course following those instructions does not fix anything. On occasion Image Capture doesn't report that error, but instead when you attempt to scan something, you just end up with a totally black image (and again note that this same scanner works perfectly well on my Monterey system). enter image description here I have followed the error dialog suggestions, I have also downloaded and installed the latest Canon drives for Ventura from here , as well as the Canon IJ Scan Utility (from that same location). Somehow, a couple of days ago I got it to work, but then it failed again yesterday. Can anyone suggest anything that might help with this? --- Update 10/14/2023 Based on suggestions I installed VueScan on the Ventura system, and initially it worked fine. But now, with the macOS on Sonoma 14.1, VueScan itself is failing, as well as Image Capture. I contacted VueScan support, and the eventually the replay came back as: > Once you get Image Capture to work, VueScan should work too. So VueScan depends on the Apple/Canon infrastructure. Also, 2 Days ago I updated a Canon driver, but now the Canon site is denying that there are any drives to download ::eye_roll::

I have a Canon MF4770n printer/scanner connected via Ethernet to the home network, and a Mac running Mac OS 10.14.6. Previously (for years), I could open Image Capture and choose the scanner and thereby scan images to my computer either from the flatbed or the document scanner. Although the print capabilities still work, AND the scanner still shows in the list in the Image Capture utility, I now get the following error when I actually click the "scan" button in Image Capture:
Scanner reported an error

Cannot communicate with the scanner.
The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off.
Check the scanner status and try again.
Scanner driver will be terminated.

Error code: 600104
What's even more interesting, if I click the scan button on the computer *without* anything in the document feeder, I just get a message that there's nothing in the document feeder. So the scanner is definitely connected. This is repeatedly reproducible. How can I troubleshoot?

These look like printers, but I have no idea if I ever installed those models. The "Last Modified" dates are nearly a decade ago. What are these files for, and is it safe to remove them?

In the past I've been able to use my Canon LIDE 30 scanner with my modern Macs. I have installed the most recent SANE TWAIN packages, restarted the computer with the scanner connected, but Image Capture (and others) claim that no device is connected. The System Report shows that a CanoScan is plugged in on one of the USB ports, but "Device has not been configured." I'm on OSX 10.9. I'm inclined to believe that the scanner really is "connected" but I've missed some step installing SANE. Any thoughts or clues? UPDATE: determined that my scanner is supported by the plustek "back end". Have confirmed that /usr/local/etc/sane.d/plustek.conf exists. scanimage command says "No SANE devices found."
