I have got a 16-inch MacBookPro M4 with an anti-glare screen, i.e. the screen does not have a "glass panel" on top.
Apple website says that MacBook Pro screens can be cleaned with a 70-per cent isopropyl alcohol wipe, so I bought these on Amazon , but then I realized that most MacBook Pro have the glass panel on top of the screen, _unlike mine_.
Can I use those wipes on my screen, even if **it does not have** the glass panel on top?
**Note**: Simply using a wet cloth is not enough to remove the grease that transfers from the keyboard to the screen when the lid is closed.

Almost always, I use my Macbook Air (M1) connected to an external display and closed. This means under the "clamshell mode".
On most occasions, I simply stop using the computer. After 5 minutes without activity, the machine is configured to sleep. If I wanna reuse it, I just need to press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse. When I wrap-up my day, I usually just cease my use which generates inactivity.
Sometimes, I get afraid of letting the computer too long without completely shutting it down. Hence, I click on the "apple" icon and set it to a proper shut down.
It is a bit inconvenient to shut it down because I use a vertical laptop stand . Hence, when I want to turn it on, I need to remove the MacBook from the vertical laptop stand, open it, press the power button, close it, and then put it again on the vertical laptop stand.
I am not sure if shutting down is really recommended (or how often it is recommended).
1. What is the best practice in this situation?
2. In case shutting down frequently is the recommended approach, is there any way to turn the Macbook on without opening the laptop and pressing the button?

This is possibly a duplicate if the difficulty of changing the keys for keyboard for a MacBook Pro [hasn’t changed since 2016](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/264750/can-i-easily-replace-keys-in-the-new-2016-macbook-pro) but even then, my question differs slightly.
What I’m really interested in knowing is how challenging it is to replace individual keys for this kind of keyboard (M1 MacBook Pro 14’ 2021); more specifically, what kind of skill level is required to successfully do it? If I’m just a normal person who is careful and watches a YouTube video, is there still a good chance that I could ruin the keyboard? Are the keys soldered on or are they entirely detachable via some kind of mechanism, etc.
[Related Question](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/429124/what-is-the-key-mechanism-on-the-macbook-pro-2021-keyboard) that doesn’t quite answer what I’m looking for; it identified that the keyboard hasn’t changed since 2019, but I suppose that implies there was a change in 2019, meaning the 2016 answer may not be applicable

We are provided with laptops (MacBooks) in our company, but the laptops are provided by default with MDM JAMF maintenance. It is possible to ask that to be removed, and sometimes requests such as that are granted. I am not sure mine will, but I am in the process.
I read about it, and I am trying to understand - would it be possible for the admins, once they let me remove MDM/etc. - to reinstall it again without my permission by sending some signal to the computer? Meaning, is there something persistent that cannot be changed once MDM is installed?
I understand they can force to be again by default on MDM if you choose to wipe the computer, but that's not my intention.
The reason I ask is that we are allowed to use the laptops for some personal information, and I would feel irked if I knew the company's admin can reinstall an MDM profile without my permission or physical access to the laptop - especially I would feel uncomfortable with logging in to my Apple ID (I don't have a "company" Apple ID).

I have a 5TB USB-C drive attached to my 16" MacBook Pro running Big Sur 11.2.3. I use this drive exclusively for Time Machine. When ejecting the drive, it takes anywhere from 90 - 120 seconds before the drive is ejected. This happens even when Time Machine is not actively backing up to the drive. A couple OSs back, I remember thinking 15 seconds was a long time to wait for a drive to eject, but now, 90+ seconds feels like forever.
***What steps can I take to troubleshoot and shorten the ejection time?***
**Update**
I plugged the drive in this morning. After letting Time Machine run, I waited for it to finish and ran the command from @jaume :
Anthony@Vincent ~ % sudo lsof +d /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
mds 90 root 21r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 25r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 27r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 31r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 34r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
I waited another 10 minutes ran the command a second time to see if mds was still using the drive and the results were the same.
While ejecting the drive, I ran the command and the output was:
Anthony@Vincent ~ % sudo lsof +d /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
lsof: WARNING -- child process 72811 may be hung.
Anthony@Vincent ~ %
**Update #2**
I added the drive to Spotlight exceptions and reran the lsof command. I noticed that there are now 3 mds processes rather than 5:
Anthony@Vincent ~ % sudo lsof +d /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
mds 90 root 21r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 24r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
mds 90 root 28r DIR 1,16 510 2 /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
Right-clicking and selecting Eject from the context menu still takes quite a while to eject the drive. During that time, I ran the lsof
command and received the following output:
Anthony@Vincent ~ % sudo lsof +d /Volumes/LaCie.Backup
lsof: WARNING -- child process 73283 may be hung.
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
Finder 431 Anthony 15r DIR 1,6 160 23740 /Volumes
Finder 431 Anthony 16r DIR 1,6 160 23740 /Volumes
The Finder commands appeared in the results right before the drive disappeared from the desktop.
However, running diskutil unmount /dev/disk3
from Terminal ejects the drive almost immediately.
Why would Finder take so long to eject the drive? I would've thought Finder was using diskutil in the background.
**Update #3 (final update)**
After a reboot, Finder, diskutil, and Alfred -- the 3 ways I use to eject this drive -- all seem to work fine. My Mac also restarts and shuts down much faster.
Thank you @jaume for the constructive comments. Can a comment be marked as an answer?
**Update #4 (Final, FINAL, update, post accepted answer)**
A month or so on from this, I was still having slow eject times. My tests ejecting the drive were done after a reboot but before Time Machine had a chance to run.
The answer from Jaume was helpful but I don't think it solved the problem.
The drive was purchased when I was running Catalina and I don't think Catalina supported Time Machine disks formatted with APFS. Now that Big Sur does support the format, I updated the drive to APFS and the eject times are now in the 5 second range.
After numerous restarts and Time Machine backups, the disk is quickly ejecting.
Also, in Big Sur, Time Machine drives are no longer able to be added to Spotlight Privacy:

I use a Time Capsule for backup and now I want the drive to back up data from an extra Mac. But the drive is filled up with old backups from Mac 1. There simply is not enough space available for the backup for Mac 2.
I get this error message when running Time Machine backup:

I know Time Machine itself is able to remove old backups when it needs more space. But in this case it does not remove any Mac 1 backups to make space for Mac 2.
Question is, how do I do it manually?

But I don't feel like fixing it.
I don't really mind the flickering a few times a day since it actually gives a cyberpunk feel to the whole macintosh experience.
I love cyberpunk.
I'm just wondering if this whole act of flicking is harmful to my machine's health from a machine maintenance perspective?
i.e. If I don't fix it and let the screen continue to have such random flickering and just let it be, will it slowly screw up my display? And create some form of irreversal defects?
And there will be no going back?
How should a MBP's display flickering be interpreted at first principle?

I'm observing regular and abnormal CPU usage on my macbook pro.
quicklookd
in par with revisiond
are eating together over of 50%. It drains my battery significantly and makes the whole machine hot.
I'm not sure when exactly it started but I'm suspecting latest 10.10.3 upgrade as I didn't notice this before.
After reading some post on the net I cleared ~Libraries/Cache
and /private/var/folders
then rebooted. It looked like the problem was gone (those processes didn't show up), but only for a while. The next day I resumed from sleep, again - quicklookd
and revisiond
started to burn my CPU.
Any clues how to get rid of this? What's causing this problem? It looks like these two processes are somehow connected, because when I cleared the cache and restarted none of them used a lot of cpu. Today, both of them do (quicklookd 24-30% , revisiond ~15%).
**[Update]**
Running sudo opensnoop -n revisiond
shows nothing.
Running sudo opensnoop -n quicklookd
brings endless list of entries like these:
UID PID COMM FD PATH
501 4783 quicklookd 23 /
501 4783 quicklookd 23 /

It goes on and on and on. It's just endless. FD
column is always 23
except two or three 21
.
**[Update 2]**
After few minutes I got some other entries besides 501 4783 quicklookd 23 /
(not pasting theme here as they were irrelevant)
And then again, whole lot of 501 4967 quicklookd 23 /
**[Update 3]**
I've also noticed that diskarbitrationd
and diskmanagementd
scores quite high (~ 5%) and stay on top of the process list (sorted by CPU usage) just below quicklookd
and revisiond
. Looks like this also might have something to do with this issue.
I've closed (cmd + q
all other apps to make sure nothing interferes the measurements).
**[Update 4]**
Found few interesting entries in console:
Failed to obtain sandbox extension for path=/Users/me/Library/Caches/com.apple.quicklook.satellite. Errno:1

Can I took control over this process? Like changing the schedule of the task, maybe using one of the listed tps of the article?

I am looking for a (most) powercord-safe way to pack my MagSafe adapter for a daily backpack commute.
Official Apple recommendations (as illustrated by third-party videos like this ) don't prevent the breaks at all, as my experience with 2 MagSafes showed.
Third-party supplements promising a solution don't sound very convincing:
- MagSavior is clearly a hard-plastic solution which just moves the cord breaking point farther from the adapter
- The Fray Fix seems nearly impossible to install despite looking promising after that

We have a Business Unit that has about 20 Mac's. From time to time, when we need to solve strange issues that are not configuration issues. I will often run "Onyx", and unless there is an underlying hardware issue, it usually solves the problem. I run the Automation, and have it rebuild just about all the caches.
Is there a best practice for preventing these cache issues from time to time, or a way to automate purging them to prevent issues in the first place? The Business Unit manager would like to not have to open a support ticket with us, if this can be prevented by routine maintenance.

**What there any physical maintenance that I can perform on our MBPs to maximize their performance and life, and how often should I perform these tasks?** Which of these tasks can I perform at home, and for which should I bring my MBP to a specialist (e.g. for part replacement)?
I'm thinking about removing dust, cycling the battery a certain way, restarting regularly, storing it for a certain length of time, cleaning external ports, replacing parts after a certain amount of time, etc.
