Large .ecryptfs folder on new computer

I have recently built a brand new computer and decided to install Linux Mint on it and I have recently realized that I only have about 730GB of free space out of the 1TB SSD I installed. After some investigation, I found a .ecryptfs folder in my home directory that is occupying approximately 150GB of space. I would like to know what this directory is, why it is taking up so much space on my new computer, and how I can reduce its size. I have not installed any major programs or files on this computer yet. It is almost brand new.
