Help needed installing Lambda Calculator on Chromebook (JRE 8 installation and update instructions unclear)

I know so little about Linux that I can't even format the question properly. I am trying to install something called Lambda Calculator on my Chromebook. It is not working and I don't know how to fix it. This is what I am supposed to be doing but I do not understand these instructions. Everything about this is new to me.
