Can't see GRUB menu on Boot, Chromebook
I've installed Arch 2017.07.01 on a micro SD card in my Dell Chromebook 13 using [this guide](http://lifehacker.com/5680453/build-a-killer-customized-arch-linux-installation-and-learn-all-about-linux-in-the-process), and I'm using [John Lewis' SeaBios](https://johnlewis.ie/custom-chromebook-firmware...

I can successfully get into the boot menuand select the micro sd to boot from, but I then get a
Welcome to GRUB!
message, and, instead of a GRUB console, i get a few lines of white distortion on top of my screen, with the boot menu still frozen in the background. I believe the distortion is the console outputting incorrectly as typing seems to change it, and it disappears after a while, reappearing when i move the mouse or type, like the screen falling asleep and waking up.
I've already tried doing a full reinstall of arch, commenting out GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT
and GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET
, and changing GRUB_GFXMODE
to 640x480
, but nothing had worked.
Any ideas?

The other day I tried to get rid other the cheomeOS ony Acer Chromebook CB5-312T-K5X4, but when I went into developer mode and inserted the USB, it said chromeOS not found on this USB. I don't know if I didn't do the steps correctly, or if it is the Chromebook itself.I tried to do the
ctrl +refresh+power button
then I pressed ctrl + d
. After that, I inserted the USB with Linuxmin and I already flashed it through Etcher. But when it rebooted, it said in developer mode, press space to switch to chromeOS or something like that. I am pretty sure that the drivers can run it, but if not please tell me. If I need to jailbreak this laptop or I didn't do it right, please tell me. I would like to install Linuxmint or Ubuntu. Key-presses happening multiple times during OpenBSD installation

I am trying to install OpenBSD on HP Chromebook 11 G4 with CoreBoot (UEFI) installed through MrChromeBox firmware-util script.
During the initial boot prompt (when you see the
boot>
) I can easily type anything there (like entering into User Kernel Config with boot -c
for example).
But after loading the installation program each time I press any key, and I mean literally any key including power button or enter, I need to wait for 1-2 seconds before chromebook responds.
What is even worse is that each key-press is recorded/recognized multiple times.
I have already found that setting kern.timecounter.hardware=acpihpet0
using sysctl
can help but unfortunately I can't get past installation (typing "done" is not an option and it is required in some places because of failed load of initial iwm0 firmware)
I know it might be the tip of an iceberg but I would like to begin with fixing the key-presses issue during an installation process.
Since this suppose to be a question there should be at least one question mark.
Is there any way to set kern.timecounter.hardware=acpihpet0
from UKC or any other way to fix each key being pressed multiple times during installation ?
As a side note: from I can see most things during boot are not configured (like acpicpu at acpi0 not configured
or Intel Bay Trail LPC .... not configured
.
Oh and I have already tried using an external keyboard with no luck since it does not work during installation program for some reason.
Update:
Just to preempt question since I did not mention this in the original question.
The installation program does not detect any disk except for the build-in emmc.
If it was not for this I could simply install the OpenBSD with autoinstall (multiple "a" count as 1 in that particular prompt and naming the response file like "bbbbb" works).
Because of the above and the fact there is only wireless connection build-in I can't get sets necessary to finish the installation. I've managed to get past disk layout stage but there is nowhere I can get the sets from since the installation medium is also unavailable.
Update 2:
I have managed to install OpenBSD via Linux MX live usb with virtualbox installed.
Sadly the keyboard is still not working. Any external usb device is not recognized either.
When I press the power button I can see there is an info with something like:
pckbc timeout
I will keep this question updated.

Thanks, but you don't get my point. I want the queue flushed automatically upon wifi connection.

I don't quite know what to do when the code from Python.org doesn't run...The last part of the message seems to implicate X, but everything else writes to the screen quite handily, even though .Xauthority does not exist.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to setup linux on a lenovo chromebook duet 5, but I'm having trouble booting to a linux USB. I think that the problem is that I need to turn off OS verification, but I'm not sure how. Here's what I've done so far:
I've mostly been working from these tutorials
With this help, I've set the device to developer mode and enabled booting from USB. The tutorials indicate that when the devices switches to developer mode, it should ask if I'd like to turn off OS verification, but weirdly I never hit that prompt. The recovery/developer menu presents a "boot from external disk" option, but when I select that I get "No valid image detected. Make sure your external disk has a valid Chrome OS image." I've tried multiple USB devices, but with the same result.
In the cross shell in developer mode, which I can access with ctrl+alt+refresh/F2 during startup, I'm prompted to use this command to boot from self-signed external images
Running this command produces a message that says that I can now boot from a self-signed image. I'm actually not sure what that means, but I'm still not able to boot from a linux USB.
Two of the tutorials suggest that it might be necessary to flash the firmware, but they both suggest MrChromebox's Firmware Utility Script, doesn't support ARM, and this device is ARM. The other option suggested in the Arch tutorial is coreboot, but that doesn't appear to support ARM either.
I've also searched for documentation from Lenovo on how to disable OS verification, but without success. If anyone has any clue, I'd be grateful!

I have installed postmarket OS on my old chromebook on an SD card. Every time I restart or resume my laptop (as in, close its lid for a bit and then open it again), the internet connection works, but after a while it stops working completely. I can't ping
google.com
(ping: bad address 'google.com'
) or its IP address. The entire time it seems to be connected to the wifi, but not to the internet.
I have checked for IP conflicts by noting its IP with ifconfig -a
when it is connected to the network, waiting until it stops being connected to the network and then pinging that same IP address. It can not find that IP address (icmp_seq=15 Destination Host Unreachable
)
I know the hardware works because internet connection works under chromeOS.

The .txz file is but I have no idea where to extract the file on Linux. I cannot use the Terminal to update it either as it tells me that I have the latest version. The .txs file is the lastest version and it has all the updated files. What should I do? Should I reinstall the software? Should I find a .rom or .deb file?

I have a Snow Bara samsung chromebook, I want to use USB boot to boot kali linux, without messing up my computer. I used
enable_usb_dev_boot
to get it to boot from usb, but it has problems when flashing the usb. I created a backup USB, and got a 32 gigabyte usb stick. The kali linux website says for their image, you need at least an 8 gb usb stick. The command that they use is
xzcat kali-$ver-exynos.img.xz | dd of=/dev/sdb bs=512k
I changed the xzcat name, and path to the corresponding one in my chromebook. I then changed the path of the dd command, to media/removable/USB\ Drive
because that was the path of my usb (I checked this). Whenever I use dd it says error this is a directory. I then changed the path to /media/removable/USB\
Drive/ and it said permission denied. I don't see my error. current command is : sudo xzcat home/chronos/user/Downloads/kali-chromebook.img.xz | dd of=/media/removable/USB\ Drive bs=512k

For context, I was using a Linux version of BizHawk (A multi system TAS emulator) on Chromebook via the Linux Terminal that required Mono. There was an error (the error being that it crashed when I tried to make a video dump) where I could not create video dumps despite having the FFMPEG software version necessary to create them. The only way for me to use the video dumping feature was to get an actual FFMPEG software for my Linux Terminal. That fixed the problem but when I told this to someone, they told me that it was not supposed to do that.
They also asked me for the log file and they noticed that I had Wine along with Mono at the time. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the Linux Terminal with only Mono installed this time. I used to have Wine in the original installation but I removed it to see if that fixed the problem. It didn't as there might have been something wrong with the emulator or my Linux Terminal. I know Chromebooks were never designed with games in mind but I needed to use it out of necessity.
I am also confused as well. I wanted to use Mono for programs and Wine for other programs but I am not sure if it would have caused a conflict. Can anyone here tell me what side effects there are to using both emulators together? Will it cause a crash? Will cause some problems doe other Linux programs? My Linux OS on the Linux Terminal was Debian 11 Bullseye.
