Sendmail wont work for my ubuntu terminal server (Ubuntu 24.04.2)

I'm currently attempting (and failing) to set up an SMTP mail server on my Ubuntu server so I can recieve emails from the contact page of my php based website. I was planning to send these emails using phps built in mail() function. However, no matter what I try the email either never sends with no errors (in the case of using sendmail) or causes a client-side timeout (in the case of using postfix). If anyone can help me it'd be greatly appreciated! I'm rather new to using SMTP related stuff so I don't really know what log files to attach so please ask me for them if needed. Thanks.
