Cannot switch Bluetooth audio codec from SBC on Redmi Note 9 Pro (joyeuse)

I'm using a Redmi Note 9 Pro (joyeuse) flashed with Xiaomi EU custom ROM and rooted. I bought new earbuds and I noticed I can't have my Bluetooth audio codec as anything but SBC, my new buds should support AAC like most devices In Developers options, I tried switching on HD Audio and switching to AAC or any other codec, but it just switches back to SBC on its own, it's so frustrating, switching to AAC in Bluetooth settings doesn't work either The same thing happened with the last Bluetooth headset I tried. It worked on my PC, and I somehow thought the headset was the problem. My new earbuds face the same issue, and I'm not sure what's causing it. I've used earbuds in the past, and my phone SHOULD have AAC support. Do you have any thoughts? ROM: MIUI 12.5.2 xiaomu.eu custom ROM, Android 11
