Starting htop from konsole vs launcher acts different - Slackware 15.0 KDE

I want to ask mostly out of curiosity to understand, what detail can have impact on behavior of htop program (or any other in the future) in following case. By default I had htop v3.1 installed, but because it doesn't allow to monitor I/O statistics, I've decided to download newer version "dedicated" for Slackware Current, which is v3.4. I could install it without any issue, however I've noticed one thing. When I launch it from the Application Launcher, everything works fine, however when I open Konsole first, then execute htop no matter if I'm logged in as an user or root, I can't press F1 or F2 - for example to enter setting (normally F2) I need to press F4.
When investigating shortcut in the Launcher I see it points to
/usr/local/share/applications/htop.desktop
config file, however I can't see inside any parameters that could have impact on that.
Another difference I can only see is that when I launch htop in the same time from both the Launcher and explicitly in Konsole, first instance have in "Command" column kind of 2x processes /usr/bin/konsole -qwindowtitle Htop -qwindowicon htop -e /usr/local/bin/htop
and /usr/local/bin/htop
. For the other method there is only htop
.
When I open Konsole first and try starting by typing `/usr/local/bin/htop', then F keys are also mixed / not working correctly.
Any ideas what is the source of this?

Very annoying problem with udev on Slackware: boot in 5 minutes and over sometimes
Sometimes on boot I read those messages Jan 17 10:06:02 slack64 udevd[209]: worker [219] /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:08.1/0000:08:00.3/usb3/3-4/3-4.4/3-4.4:1.0/host8/target8:0:0/8:0:0:0/block/sr0 timeout; kill it Jan 17 10:06:02 slack64 udevd[209]: seq 1878 '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:08.1/0000:08:...

The boot is freeze and can stay over 5 minutes without booting.
The only solution is this: remove the usb cable of my wifi card (use the 8852bu driver) and reattach it (!) after booting.
My question is: how this usb driver can interfere with a block device?sr0 is not a real drive, is a fake driver created by the package vhba-module.
The system is Slackware 15.0, the hardware is not important because make the same thing on three different pc.
I have tried this method but don't work.

How do I set Liveslak to be persistent?

Slackware - automatically update all packages
That's the interface I want. I click a checkbox (or edit a line in a config file) and all packages in the distribution are checked for updates periodically (may be every week) and all these updates are automatically installed. How to set it up?

Markdown Viewer
I found a file formatted with Markdown. Could you suggest what viewer I could use to view this type of file? Hopefully one without a GUI, if it's possible. I am looking for a viewer that could parse markdown file format that does not need any conversion, but something close to that should be okay.

I would bet much appreciate some concise help 🙄
My partition table is as follows.
/dev/sda1 300mb efi system
/dev/sda2 30gb Linux root
/dev/sda3 700gb Linux home
/dev/sda4 32gb Linux swap
/dev/sda5 70gb Linux /use
This was done in cfdisk.

done.
Still get the same error message. And, the headers are installed.
In fact, I see several erron.h files in various subdirecitories.

For example, using SSH, I want to connect to 10.0.4.16 from local IP 10.2.23.1:
$ ssh -b 10.2.23.1 admin@10.0.4.16
The connection fails, because ssh uses 10.247.226.186 as a source IP, not 10.2.23.1 as it should (confirmed with tcpdump) - and that isn't allowed on server. Of course I could allow another IP on server, but I want to know **WHY** it doesn't work.
I also wrote a simple C program confirming this (really only
socket
, bind
to 10.2.23.1 and connect
to ... anywhere in fact). The program runs, no errors from bind
function, but the source IP is always 10.247.226.186.
Does anyone have any clue why all connections use **the other IP** on eth2? Could be the /32 netmask the problem?
Thank you.
EDIT: Added the host OS.

I try to create an Audio CD using brasero 3.12.3-x86_64-1salix15 on a Slackware 15.0 based system.
slapt-get added the following packages to meet all dependencies:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
graphene gstreamer gst-plugins-base libburn libisofs brasero
The exact versions of the packages:
1/6 Get http://slackware.uk/salix/x86_64/slackware-15.0/ graphene 1.10.6-x86_64-1 [104.0kB]...Done

6/6 Get http://slackware.uk/salix/x86_64/extra-15.0/ brasero 3.12.3-x86_64-1salix15.0 [2.4MB]...Done
Starting brasero I get no errors in the terminal that started it:
rava@rava1:/$ brasero
When I click the "Audio project / Create a traditional audio CD" icon nothing happens in the terminal, but when I then click on the "+" icon ("Add files to the project") and the Open File Window opens, the starting terminal tells me this
(brasero:8385): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: 20:31:29.706: attempting to add an interface (EggTreeMultiDragSource) to class (GtkFileSystemModel) after class_init
The same error is repeated every time I go around in my filesystem (only the time stamp of the error changes)
And when I select any .wav or .mp3 that should be suitable, I always get this error:
"name.ext" could not be opened.
"name.ext" is not suitable for audio or video media.
**I tested several files that should be suitable, but all create the above error.** Since the file I want to burn as Audio CD is sampled as 48000 Hz I used lame to convert that into a 44100 Hz highest quality mp3 because when in audacity-linux-3.2.1-x86_64 I set the sample rate to 44100 Hz but the exported .wav file still had 48000 Hz.
lame --resample 44100 --preset extreme lamesh_11100_1.wav
This is what ffprobe reports on that mp3 that I converted via lame mp3 with the above parameters:
$ ffprobe -hide_banner lamesh_11100_1.mp3
Input #0, mp3, from 'lamesh_11100_1.mp3':
Duration: 01:03:39.49, start: 0.025057, bitrate: 216 kb/s
Stream #0:0: Audio: mp3, 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp, 216 kb/s
Metadata:
encoder : LAME3.100
Side data:
replaygain: track gain - 0.500000, track peak - unknown, album gain - unknown, album peak - unknown,
but still, brasero keeps insisting on
"lamesh_11100_1.mp3" could not be opened.
"lamesh_11100_1.mp3" is not suitable for audio or video media.
Any ideas why that might be? Is some dependency missing or not working correct and brasero not tells me about this?

I'm using PorteuX (Slackware based) and in the shutdown/reboot process I want to unmount everything, which works fine unless I boot with Nvidia drivers. In this case, just before
reboot -f
step if I run lsof /dev/nvidia*
it says both init
and busybox
are using nvidia-modeset
process, which prevents me from being able to kill any Nvidia process.
I also tried to boot into init 3
and kill all Nvidia processes, but it says the device is busy, although is not clear why.
Is there a way to force the Nvidia driver to unload without rebooting? I don't mind losing video, as this will happen in the last step before shutdown.

This is my third Slackware 14.2 64-bit installation.
I'm installing it now on a laptop with GPT partitions.
I will describe as best as possible the path I had to do with this installation.
Initially I had to overcome the issue that using
and
.
Neither is perfectly clear; look at either one, or both, or neither,
as you prefer.
How can I start Slackware 14.2 with GRUB commands?
I may be missing something as I am new to GRUB commands.
The best solution I would be looking for is that
dd
to create the USB stick for installation was not booting from the pendrive.
I had to use the usbimg2disk.sh
script.
Once I was able to boot from the USB I had to mount the pendrive manually as the USB was not detected when I was asked for source media. i.e., I did:
mkdir /os
mount /dev/sda1 /os
And then I selected "install from premounted directory" and used /os/cdrom0/slackware64
All the installation went fine, but then I faced another issue, which I couldn't resolve yet. I tried with lilo
and elilo
options, but the boot is still showing the grub2
, which was there from the Ubuntu 14.04 installed previously,
with no options but the grub
command line instead.
I may mention that from BIOS setup I see as UEFI Hard Drive BBS Priorities Boot Option #1 which is [ubuntu], but not sure that should be an issue,
as I have overridden the Ubuntu partition already.
However, I'm not sure why the ubuntu tag is there
and I don't see any way to change that.
The partitions I selected within the installation were:
/dev/mmcblk0p3 / ext4
/dev/mmcblk0p4 /home ext4
As I had only GRUB available, I decided to learn some GRUB commands
and was able to start the Slackware kernel with the below commands:
grub> set root=(hd0,gpt3)
grub> linux /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/mmcblk0p3
grub> initrd /boot/vmlinuz
grub> boot
I thought it was going to be a successful start, but instead I got the following kernel panic error:
RAMDISK: Couln't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.
VFS: Cannot open root device "mmcblk0p3" or unknown-block(0,0): error
Here are two photographs of the screen during the boot:

lilo
or elilo
show at startup in order to start Slackware automatically.
What can I do for lilo
to show as boot loader?

I usually use a slackware-15 setup DVD as "livecd". Is more fast than other real live cd and contain a ssh daemon.
When I use it as livecd I did those steps
step1: give an easy root password
echo -e'password\npassword\n' |passwd root
step2: start networking
dhcpcd -q -4 eth0
step3: start dropbear (ssh)
/etc/rc.d/rc.dropbear start
my question is: is possible to create a custom iso of 15.0 which
make automatically those 3 steps?
How to start? Thanks
personally I tried those steps
cp -av /mnt/cdrom /tmp/tmpdir
then I go to tmpdir and extract the initrd.img (is a cpio xz compressed file)
cp initrd.img initrd.xz
xz -d initrd.xz
mkdir pro1
cd pro1
cpio -i -d -m -H newc --no-absolute-filenames ../initrd.img
I made the iso
mkisofs -o /tmp/slackware-dvd.iso -R -J -A "Slackware Install" -hide-rr-moved -v -d -N -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -sort isolinux/iso.sort -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/isolinux.boot -eltorito-alt-boot -no-emul-boot -eltorito-platform 0xEF -eltorito-boot isolinux/efiboot.img -m 'source' -V "SlackDVD" .
testing the iso on a vm and..
