How to emoji react in SMS to iPhone users in Google Messages?

I've tried searching online but haven't found an answer, but is there any way to emoji react to SMS messages (Samsung Galaxy A53) on messages sent from iPhone users? iPhone users are able to add emoji reactions to my messages, yet I cannot do the same back. I can react to messages from some other contacts though, presumably those with Android devices. I am using Google Messages and have all of the RCS chats enabled and verified.
