Unlock iPad without FaceID

With FaceID enabled sometimes my iPad allows me to unlock it with the passcode. What finger gesture can I use to force a passcode entry instead like when FaceID does not work. I want to force the iPad to accept (allow me) to enter my passcode? This is not a face mask problem. There are times when I am just done with the FaceID nonsense and I want to enter the pass phrase but cannot get the iPad to give me that option.
