How does Apple FaceID authentication work?
I gave my son my passwords to Fidelity Investments and my Spectrum Internet account. I gave my son my passwords to Fidelity Investments and my Spectrum Internet account. On his phone, he logged into both apps with my passwords and only needed his face (using FaceID) to access those two accounts. However, one day I wanted to take away his access and changed passwords to both of those accounts, yet he continues to have access to my accounts on his phone using just FaceID. I thought FaceID ==> gives the phone owner access to the passwords saved on the phone. Now it looks that the phone owner's face gives direct access to once authenticated apps on the phone. Is that how FaceID works? And there's no way for me to revoke his access to my accounts?

How to disable Touch-ID on MacBooks via keyboard shortcut?

Currently I'm using a M1 MacBook Air. Pressing the Touch-ID button three times opens the Accessibility Shortcuts. **Edit:** On a different channel the bioutil command line tool was mentioned. To disable Touch-ID, run the following command: sudo bioutil --write --system --unlock 0. When I use Face ID to sign into a third party application what is being sent to the application server to confirm my login. Apple state, , ** Apps are only notified regarding whether the authentication is successful** I assumed that, on successful confirmation that my face is matched, my username and application password/token is forwarded, but the quote from apple would suggest this is not the case. If nothing unique is being sent other than I would assume my user name and a generic confirmation that my face matches, what is stopping a third party from accessing my online banking account for example?

There are several gmail accounts on an iPhone already but adding a particular account generates an error. All that I seem to get is a generic error message about security. Logging in via a browser on a computer works fine. There's no MFA on this gmail account. There are no security alerts about attempted logins for the gmail account from another device. see also: https://support.google.com/mail/thread/29349671/why-doesn-t-face-id-work-for-logging-into-my-google-account-in-gmail-on-iphone-11-pro-max?hl=en I'm not seeing this specific error in search results, but it seems to be aimed towards protecting the Google account from getting hijacked. Fair enough. In this case it's a legitimate login which I want to enable. This gmail account works fine from different computers and devices including Linux, Windows, Android, and Thunderbird. All indications are that the error is iPhone specific. Perhaps the facial recognition on the iPhone is triggering something? -------------- this question: https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/166732/315211 seems usefully related. However, there are no security alerts from Google.

How to turn on stolen device protection but do not allow iphone to be unlocked without a passcode
I like stolen device protection in iOS 17.3. I want to turn it on. However, I want to require the passcode to unlock the device. I do not want the device to be able to be unlocked with biometrics (touch ID, FaceID) alone. Is this possible? If so, how?

I want to force the iPad to accept (allow me) to enter my passcode? This is not a face mask problem. There are times when I am just done with the FaceID nonsense and I want to enter the pass phrase but cannot get the iPad to give me that option.

I have work email on my phone thanks to some MDM profile additions. I'm finding on my iPhone XS that FaceId forces back to Passcode on every second attempt. I have added a second face - my Apple watch is not used for authentication. This frequency seems unusually high. I'm tempted to temporarily delete the MDM profile to see if this decreases the tendency of FaceId to flip back to Passcode. My question is: **Can profile MDM settings increase FaceId's frequency to switch back to Passcode?**

I get locked out of Face ID from my iPhone intermittently, which has happened over the last couple of years when running iOS 14, 15 and 16. This is after Face ID was used and the iPhone was locked. It happened again this morning after I upgraded to iOS 16, last night and was playing around with it. It even happened during a flight in airplane mode. I am wondering if anyone knows what would cause that to happen, other than turning the phone back on after a power down, or not using Face ID continuously for over 48 hours. enter image description here

As a long time Android user I wanted to give Apple a shot and got myself an iPhone 8 a few years ago. While I never regretted switching systems, I'm currently looking for a smartphone with a better resolution and camera. The concerns I have with the modern phones is the authentication method. Face ID to be exact. Since day one I always made sure to cover up the front camera. I never had the need to use it, and to be honest, I feel safer that way. Now regarding the iPhone 13 or 14. Will it be possible for me to log in and authenticate myself without Face ID? From what I've read online it seems to me it won't be possible. But I thought it might be better to get confirmation.

So I write down what I'm going to buy before going to buy grocery. Whether I am masked or need to enter my PIN, it's a pain to retrieve the list several times during a shopping trip. I usually use Notes for this list since it enables syncing from macOS. I can of course disable an iPhone's PIN and Face-Id before entering the store and reenable afterwards, but this is far from a good solution. How else might I prepare my iPhone to be able to pick it up, press the power button, and see a grocery list (while masked and without entering my PIN)?

Why is passcode required to enable Face ID after just one failed attempt sometimes?
I'm on iOS 15 and use Face ID to unlock my phone, however, sometimes I forgot that I was wearing a mask and Face ID unlock failed - most of the times I could swipe up to try it again, but sometimes passcode is required to enable Face ID after just one failed attempt. Why?

Unlike for example filling in saved password into login forms and similar, which requires TouchId each time. Is there a way to make it ask for permission each time the certificate is used? Similar to the use of saved passwords, so that it would require TouchId or FaceId (or passcode).
