Cross posted from linux mint forum, where no response was received. My workflow involves having multiple images open and simultaneously visible and editable, in a single frame, in a single instance of the application. This allows me to paste back and forth between images, without having to (in effect) make the image in a tab visible. My workflow also involves being able to copy an on-focus image, and then paste it into a new image "automatically" (again in the same frame), where I don't have to first create the new canvas. This functionality is provided by Paint Shop pro 5, which I have been using under wine in Mint 20. I would very much like to ditch Paint Shop Pro it in favor of a native linux app, that offers this specific functionality. I have explored the following apps somewhat superficially - to the best of my knowledge, none of them will do what I want: pinta, gwenview, nomacs, digikam, image magick, gtthumb, krita, gphoto, showfoto. I also briefly attempted to explore gimp plug-ins; again no joy. Please let me know if you know of a native linux app or gimp plugin that replicates this particular Paint Shop Pro functionality. For what it's worth, prior to posting this question, I searched this forum and others for questions directly on point with respect to this particular functionality, and didn't find anything. Given the situation, and given that Corel Draw (the makers of Paint Shop Pro) services the Apple and Windows operating systems but not linux, I am beginning to suspect that I am beating a dead horse. That is, there may be something inherent in the Linux "windowing" system that makes this functionality problematic. I also welcome any technical opinions, re the previous paragraph. Further, if you think that I am beating a dead horse, I welcome any suggested app, that you think "comes closest" to what I want.

Linux equivalent for Microsoft Visio?
Visio is a great tool for creating diagrams, flowcharts, prototyping, etc. But it is Windows-only and is not free. Are there any graphical tools for Linux that can do many of these same tasks well?

I'm looking for simple graphical editor for Debian to make pixel art. It has to have pixel grid, be able to draw simple shapes and right-click ideally should apply secondary color (unlike gimp, which is almost ok, but has context menu on right click and is not quite simple when it comes to drawing a rectangle). MS Paint fit the bill on Win, but there are no exact clones(?) of it for Debian 9.

Manjaro: enable edit in Shutter
[![enter image description here][1]][1] To enable edit button in Shutter sometimes a new dependency is needed. In Ubuntu systems the neeeded package is `libgoo-canvas-perl `, but that is not present in Manjaro repositories, nor in AUR. [1]: https://i.sstatic.net/a1G2p.jpg

This kind of plane is a common tool used to view Rontgen pictures in Radiology. It exists as a standard in many RTG programs in hospitals. I would like to have a similar tool open-source for inspecting pictures. Situation: to have a plane of contrast-brightness adjustments Motivation: need to adjust continuously contrast-brightness such that Gimp's default tools are not enough fast and not sure if Imagemagick's browser can be extended with it Proposal: have a plane where you can adjust brightness and contrast in a plane by using some Gimp macros, since I think you cannot extend ImageMagick for it Nicknames: a nonlinear plane of regression, a nonlinear plane of contrast and brigthness, ... Characteristics: mouse/keyboard control in the plane - x-axis: x_left for brightness min, x_right for brightness max - y-axis: y-bottom for contrast min, y_top for contrast max ImageMagick's browser and Gimp --- You browse image and its parts by the script about How Open Specific Part of .png Figure in Ubuntu's Terminal? by keys (\up,\down,\left,\right) or use your mouse to choose the appropriate location. Start the image in the script by reviewImage 960 raw.png or manually adjust those settings in Gimp, respectively: Fig. 1 Starting image by reviewImage 960 raw.png in Terminal ImageMagick, Fig. 2 Changing Brightness-Contrast in Palette of Gimp enter image description here enter image description here Jansen's proposal in *Colours > Curves* is great but I would like to have a one-liner to start it in Terminal because it is so important tool for me. Can you? Fig. 3 Gimp Colours > Curves enter image description here System: Debian 8.5, Linux Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit ImageMagick: Date: 2009/01/10 01:00:00 Gimp: 2.8.16

I am trying to read a data matrix which I have generated from a private 2096-bit encrypted RSA key. The key was generated using gpg and printed to PDF with the following command: gpg --export-secret-key MY_PRIVATE_KEY_ID | paperkey --output-type raw | dmtxwrite -e 8 -f PDF > ~/key.pdf I then printed key.pdf and scanned it, producing the following jpg file: enter image description here I now wanted to use the following command to recreate my private key: dmtxread /path/to/image.jpg | paperkey --pubring ~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg > my-regenerated-private-key.gpg However, the command dmtxread prints nothing to stdout and returns 1. I have tried tinkering with the error correction by using -C 10000, reducing the tolerance for rotation by using -q 5, and increasing the canvas size of the image to increase the number of blank pixels to the left and right of the matrix. I also tried with a larger resolution scan (I don't know the DPI, but it was 4MB and the squares were very well defined) and adjusting the contrast tolerance using -t 20 and -t 5, all with the same result (although I had to skip pixels using -S 5 with this large file to get it to finish in < 30 minutes). I tried using --verbose but nothing was printed to stdout (or any diagnostic file as far as I could tell). I have also tried the -D option to produce a diagnostic image. I'm not really sure what to make of the result though: enter image description here Clearly it's struggling with some of the boundaries, but I'm not sure why or how to make dmtxread more robust. My next step was going to be attempting to decrypt a dummy file using the recovered private key, but obviously I didn't get that far. It's disappointing that this is so difficult; if there is no easy way to do this with the command-line libdmtx tools, maybe there is another tool that can do this for me out of the box? _Important_: it goes without saying that I would never use this private key for any actual encrypting, now that I've shared it online. You should never share your private key.

easy-to-use image-editing FLOSS
I'm looking for recommendations for something easy to use that will allow me to edit my images. I fiddled with Inkspace and GIMP and found them not so intuitive (I don't want to have to read a manual to know how to **draw a border** around some part of the image).

It is unable to display image with few more advanced layers correctly. It renders little different picture. Is there any other solutions other than Photoshop in Wine? P.S. I'm fine with GIMP interface and I don't know Photoshop. However it looks I have to work with .psd files.

What is the most advanced image editing FLOSS?
Is it still GIMP? Inkscape? Are they too different to compare? Does anything come close to the two? Are they more/less advanced than Photoshop? __note__: advanced = more features
