I get that command not found. How can I install wifi driver?
I have installed(iwlwifi-6000g2a-ucode-18.168.6.1.tgz

I don't know what other information would be useful, so just ask and I should be able to provide it. I have spent a good amount of time troubleshooting, but I am new to Linux and don't have a ton of Comp Sci experience.

it seem fine post installation. I don't remember my wlan works post installation because I used wired. But, when I turned on my laptop today wlan interface load fails. I lastly installed wine 5.1 yesterday but I don't think is the reason. I searched other cases in google but I couldn't find any valid solutions. How can I fix my driver?

I found someone [similar issue](https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=243691) with me but his solution is not working for me.
I added ="loglevel=3 quiet intel_iommu=off"
and grub-mkconfig again but it didn't work.
My Network Interface is not even loaded so I can't do something like wlan0 power off

I upgraded my Wireless Card from Intel Wireless 9560 to AX200.
I have Dual Boot Windows OS & Ubuntu 20.10 on my HP Omen.
I updated my wireless driver on my Windows 10 environment.
Everything working perfectly.Every time I boot into my Ubuntu 20.10,
I have to connect to my hidden Wifi every time.
I tried to see if Ubuntu recognizing the AX200 drive.
This is what I found:
krillavilla@krillavilla-OMN:~$ sudo dmesg | grep iwlw

**UPDATE**
I went to the Intel website to load the driver using the instruction
provided on this link Intel Linux Wireless Driverl
I still get kicked off my Wifi randomly
***UPDATE***
It's been 4 hours and I did not get kick off my wifi yet.
I did some research and found this article Kernel Update
which I already have an updated version of the kernel.
krillavilla@krillavilla-OMN:~$ uname -r
5.8.0-28-generic
Also, people had reported disabling Fast Boot and secure on Windows 10 OS
Intel Fast Boot . I already disable Fast boot startup and my secure BIOS is disabled since I have Windows OS dual boot.
Now, my issue is my throughput on my Windows 10 OS speed test is over 120mbps download speed. On my Ubuntu 20.10, I get a 55mbps download speed.
All the other devices connected to my TP-Link AX6000 getting over 200+mpbs download speed. my laptop is the only device that getting less than 200mbps.
Why is that?
***UPDATE***
I restart my computer and Ubuntu 20.10 didn't connect to my Wifi automatically. I have to go to Network Manager and connect it manually.
***UPDATE***
Its been several hours and I didn't get kicked off my wifi but I still
have to connect to it manually after restart or reboot.
I have 4 questions I need help with:
1. Can someone help me resolve this error message:
[3.484752] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[3.498326] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-56.ucode failed with error -2
2. Can someone help me figure out why Ubuntu won't connect to my Wifi
Automatically after reboot/restart?
3. Can anyone explain to me why my Windows 10 OS has way faster Link speed/throughput than my Ubuntu 20.10? Is there a fix for this issue?
4.Is there a way to install WPA 3 and 802.11ax on my Ubuntu laptop?

I have tried using iwlwifi without success, this is my first time installing firmware or dealing with issues like this, so I'm willing to try again with a comprehensive walkthrough.
I have run the google gauntlet, but after a few hours I haven't found any results yet. I tried most/all of the youtube guides instructing to download github repos, I assume half of those are for generic realtek or USB devices.
Any tips or information I can provide, please let me know!

My desktop has lost wireless connectivity and I strongly suspect a hardware issue, but I would like to know how I can confirm that that is the problem before I buy a replacement.
My reasons for thinking this are:
- My NIC was a standard size, but I have a low profile case so, as a bodge, I cut the metal bracket. This worked fine, but it's never felt like it was seated properly, so may have died due to my own miserly stupidity
- I use
wicd-curses
to connect to my network and it no longer detected any SSIDs.
- running sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
returns SIOCSIFFLAGS: Connection timed out
- running iw dev
shows my device details
- running sudo ip link set wlan0 up
returns RTNETLINK answers: Connection timed out
- dmesg
gives:
iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load firmware chunk!
iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Could not load the uCode section
iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failed to start INIT ucode: -110
iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failed to run INIT ucode: -110
I've exhausted my limited knowledge and Google searching from my phone isn't leading me anywhere. I'm really not familiar with this stuff, so any background info to help me understand what's going on here is very much appreciated!
OS: Xubuntu 16.04 (relatively recently upgraded from 14.04)
Kernel: 4.4.0-47
**Edit:** I found the solution to my lost connectivity, but I still don't know ***why***. I am therefore leaving this question here in the hope that someone can answer my original question: **how can I debug this kind of problem?**

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220. I recently changed my hard disk drive to an SSD and installed Arch Linux on it.
What happens is that, when I try to connect to a Wifi Network via
wifi-menu
, it doesn't connect. wifi-menu
shows me the different networks that are available to connect, and when typing the password it immediately fails.
Not sure what drivers I should install, and the only way I can connect to the Internet is through a wired connection.
I think this can be useful:
> $ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
00:19.0 Ethernet controller : Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit
Network Connection (Lewisville) [8086:1502] (rev 04)

Subsystem: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (802.11a/b/g/n)

This is a fresh Debian 10 installation that's two-three weeks old.
For the last couple of days, my system has been acting up, it would just slow down and I would not be able to use
sudo
in the terminal as it won't prompt for authentication. When I check CPU usage using htop
, it shows that systemd-journald
is using quite a lot of CPU, more than 100%. One time there was two or three processes/thread of rsyslogd
using around 50% CPU each. I haven't seen rsyslogd
using that much CPU after that.
Since I could not use sudo
, I wasn't able to check the logs, but today I found out that I could just su
and become root while sudo
wasn't working and I checked the logs.
The following is an excerpt from journalctl

Similar to journalctl
messages, the above logs from dmesg
were also repeated endlessly in the dmesg
. (I think these dmesg
logs were displayed as I tried to shutdown the system when the system hangs, but I couldn't make sure as the messages were rapidly moving.)
I thing the slow down is caused by excessive logging as /var/log/kern.log
, /var/log/messages
and /var/log/syslog
are about 23GB each.
I am not sure what causes this much errors/logs, but I suspect it's the wi-fi of the laptop. The WiFi chip is an Intel® Wireless-AC 9560
and I have been having some connection issues with wifi. (The wifi would disconnect all of a sudden and the network manager would show device is not ready
. When I reboot, the wifi option is gone from Network manager. This has occurred twice and toggling the Secure Boot
in UEFI
to OFF/ON
would fix it.)
I didn't notice any trouble with wifi when the system became slow.
- Here's another related question from Askubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1251908/syslog-and-kern-log-keeps-filling-up-and-network-stops-working

- Bug report from Linux Kernal: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98321
What exactly is happening here and how do I fix this?

Understanding intel wifi error codes
Today I was unable to connect to my home access point eventhough the key is correct. Today I was unable to connect to my home access point eventhough the key is correct. I searched the log files and found the following entries:
NetworkManager: [1486388354.0812] device (wlan1):
supplicant interface state: scanning -> authenticating
kernel: wlan1: RX AssocResp from 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6 (capab=0x411 status=18 aid=0)
kernel: wlan1: 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6 denied association (code=18)
NetworkManager: [1486388354.0865] device (wlan1):
supplicant interface state: authenticating -> associating
Question: Where can I find more information about the
AssocResp
with capab=0x411
, status=18
and aid=0
. Or how can I find out why the association was denied?
When I am connecting network manager does not give me any kind of error message and just keeps prompting me for the password so the above log entries are the only clue that I currently have.
**Update**
After playing a bit with my routers wireless settings I realized that the problem was comming from an option named:
802.11 N Support Required
When I switched this to off
my notebook was immediately able to connect to my wireless network.
NetworkManager: [1486736944.1725] device (wlan1):
supplicant interface state: authenticating -> associating
kernel: wlan1: associate with 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6 (try 1/3)
kernel: wlan1: associate with 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6 (try 2/3)
kernel: wlan1: RX AssocResp from 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1)
wpa_supplicant: wlan1: Associated with 80:c6:ab:49:02:e6
kernel: wlan1: associated
NetworkManager: [1486736944.2821] device (wlan1):
supplicant interface state: associating -> associated
However I know for sure that my wireless card is able to connect to class N wifi networks. Checking with lshw
for the current wifi driver confirms that the wireless interface for wlan1
is a **Centrino Advanced-N 6205** from Intel.

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04.3 as a persistent storage, live USB version on an old Seagate external drive. I'm getting a "No Wifi Adapter Found" error in the Wifi settings once I boot into this Ubuntu Drive.
My network adapter readout from 'lspci' is
00:14.3 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9560 [Jefferson Peak] (rev 10)
I dowloaded the corresponding linux supported drivers and copied it to /lib/firmware folder. After restarting my computer I still get the same error message. I double checked the /lib/firmware folder for the .ucode file and it was still there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am using Debian trixie (testing) right now, because I was hoping that I'd get new enough packages that way. I also tried stable (bookworm) but couldn't even boot to the GUI with that live image, so I switched back to trixie.

### What I Tried
* Intel [does not list a driver for the AX211](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005511/wireless.html)
* Based on a quick glance at the lenovo store, it looks to me like the Gen 11 and Gen 12 (my laptop model) of the *Lenovo Carbon X1* have the same WiFi card, so [InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/X1 Carbon Gen 11/trixie](https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/X1%20Carbon%20Gen%2011/trixie) would seem potentially helpful
* Like in the code snippet there (but in an already-existing installation instead of during the install) I copied the firmware from git.kernel.org
to /lib/firmware
> > $ mkdir firmware && cd firmware
> # Load the firmware files for the WLAN modul.
> $ wget -r -nd -e robots=no -A 'iwlwifi-so-a0-gf-a0*.*' --accept-regex '/plain/' https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/
> # Load the firmware files for the i915 modul.
> $ mkdir i915 && cd i915
> § wget -r -nd -e robots=no --accept-regex '/plain/' https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/i915
* After a sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlwifi
, the output of sudo dmesg | grep iwl
shows that the newly-added firmware files were tried:
$ sudo dmesg | grep iwl

* Lenovo has a guide on how to install debian (older version) on a different laptop model. The issues they mention there match mine (touchpad and wifi) so I tried to follow that guide's section 5 Option 1: [lenovo thinkpad p53 p73 debian10 installation](https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/lenovo_thinkpad_p53_p73_debian10_installation_v1.0.1.pdf)
That did not help either. After then running sudo update-initramfs -u
and a reboot, the wifi interface is still not present.
* Debian unstable [does not](https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/firmware-nonfree) have a newer version of firmware-iwlwifi
* I noticed *just now* that the dmesg output stated a different name than what I had downloaded! it wants iwlwifi-ma-b0-gf-a0-89
, not 'iwlwifi-so-a0-gf-a0*.*'
. When I copy files that match the pattern iwlwifi-ma-b0-gf-a0*.*
from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/ to /lib/firmware
and run sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlwifi
I see now different dmesg | grep iwl
output. I'll update this Question after a reboot.

I have a Fritzbox wifi router, and the wifi network name never(almost) shows up in the laptop. So I mostly use LAN cable. Very rarely, I have been able to connect to the wifi network with my laptop(probably twice in this year). It is extremely random. I tried changing the wifi channel in router to something less than 11, and it did not work. Also, I checked that the router is not blacklisting my laptop. **I *can* connect to other WiFi networks, *but not* with fritzbox routers.**
However, I can connect to the same wifi network, if I use a wifi dongle. Why is that the case? And how can I use my on-board laptop wifi?
Some of the device details using ifconfig:

Wi-Fi network is not working on Fedora 32 - connection times out

I am running Fedora 32 on a used HP Z420 workstation. My internet connection worked all OK when I was using an Ethernet connection, but after I moved to an apartment that did not have an Ethernet output and I had to use Wi-Fi instead, I can't get the Wi-Fi connection on the computer to work.
The problem is not in the Wi-Fi connection itself, as the Windows 10 laptop I have been using for remote work is able to connect to the Wi-Fi all OK.
I am using a TP-Link TL-WN823N USB Wi-Fi adapter plugged in to the computer's USB port. When I run
lsusb
it shows the adapter as:
001 Device 003: ID 2357:0109 TP-Link TL-WN823N v2/v3 [Realtek RTL8192EU]
When I boot up the computer and log in to Fedora, the system is able to find the Wi-Fi network as its name shows up when I click on the network icon on the taskbar, along with several other Wi-Fi networks (that belong to other people and whose passwords I don't know). When I click on the network name, Fedora asks me for a network password. When I type it and click "Connect", nothing happens. I don't get connected and I don't even get a message about a wrong password or anything.
Here is what appears when I run dmesg
:
[ 622.856644] iwlwifi: unknown parameter 'wd_disable' ignored
[ 622.856648] iwlwifi: unknown parameter 'bt_coex_acrive' ignored

[ 640.985121] wlp0s26u1u3: authentication with 9e:0e:8b:55:27:c7 timed out
I have read this SuperUser StackExchange post: https://superuser.com/questions/911635/wifi-authentication-times-out and tried the solution. It didn't work. It seems Fedora is ignoring the "wd_disable" parameter. It is also ignoring another parameter "bt_coex_acrive" (yes, it is really spelled "acrive" in the dmesg
output, not "active") that I don't know where it comes from. It does not appear in any file in the directory /etc/modprobe.d.
I am able to type this StackExchange post because I'm currently at work in my company's office where there is a working internet connection.
Does anyone have an idea what is causing this and how I can fix it? I can provide more details if needed, but there is a lag because I have to switch between my home computer (to diagnose the problem) and my work computer (to report it to StackExchange).
If the solution involves installing more software with dnf then I don't know how that would work as to be able to use dnf I would need an internet connection in the first place.
Update 6 November 2021: I have installed the rtl8192eu kernel module found here: https://github.com/Mange/rtl8192eu-linux-driver
That did not help. Nothing changed. The Wi-Fi adapter recognizes the network, but is unable to connect to it.
Here is what I found on dmesg
output:

What is "session protection"?

Today I tried suspending my laptop and resuming it on NixOS after fixing something about Nvidia's powerManagment and black screens on GNOME when I noticed the internet was not connecting back, but the NetworkManager service was running it just had to restart.
I tried searching about it after running *dmesg* and I did not find any answers to the occuring problem so then I scrolled up the *dmesg* log and found a call trace left by the iwlwifi module.
Any ideas on what to do?
I just know before updating to Nix I ran Arch Linux on Kernel 6.10.9 and now that I updated to NixOS Kernel 6.11 I'm having this issue. I still have the call trace saved on my device in the form of a txt file and I'm too scared to send an e-mail to kernel.org's regressions list because it might have been caused by my own faulty actions.
Bonus information: I am not using every unstable package from NixOS's nixpkgs I'm only using the one for Kernel 6.11 and Nvidia Driver 560
