Mac Os "cannot be installed on this computer"

So I got a second hand macbook(A1342, mid-2010) and I need to install mac os on it so I can upgrade the firmware(it had cloud ready installed on it) so I downloaded a snow leopard dmg file(it said for dvd btw) and used etcher on my Linux machine to burn it to a usb after extracting the img. It booted fine into the installer but then it said Mac OS cannot be installed on this computer. Do you have an ideas? I've just a little stumped right now. And extra info I only got a Linux and Windows computer rn The Linux one has a disk drive but the Windows doesnt And I don't have the original installation disc
