I need help to solve this dilemma, I recently brought an Acer Aspire 15, I decided to install Debian 12 onto it to replace Windows. I installed KDE as the DE. I attempted to set up my Bluetooth Headphones to my laptop using the GUI.
A button to enable bluetooth can be seen, when I press it nothing happens. I then decided to attempt to set it up via bluetoothctl since I believed at the time it was just a problem with the GUI and not the bluetooth connection itelf.
bluetoothctl
Agent registered
[bluetooth]# scan on
No default controller available
After attempting to scan for devices, an error message appears stating that there is no default controller available. I have attempted to reinstall the Debian operating system, removed and readded btusb, attempted to restart bluetooth.service and none of these worked.

_OS community,
I’m experiencing persistent USB issues on my Acer Aspire 3 running Pop!_OS 22.04, and I’d appreciate some guidance. The problem involves frequent USB controller failures and device disconnections, which don’t occur when I use the same peripherals on Windows 11. I’ve tried multiple troubleshooting steps, including updating the kernel, disabling the touchpad, and using a new mouse with a lower polling rate, but the issue persists.
**Background**
Hardware: Acer Aspire 3 notebook.
OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 (based on Ubuntu 22.04).
Peripherals: Previously used a Corsair Harpoon RGB PRO (1000Hz polling) and now a YSPRINGTECH USB OPTICAL MOUSE (lower polling rate), plus an internal ELAN050A touchpad.
Observation: On Windows 11 (dual-boot), there are no USB problems with the same setup, suggesting a Linux-specific driver or configuration issue.
**Symptoms**
USB devices disconnect or require resets.
The xHCI controller reports errors, especially during resume from suspend.
Additional issues with power management, Acer WMI, and SATA links are present, which might be related.
**Troubleshooting Attempted**
Updated the kernel to the latest HWE version (e.g., 5.15.0-107).
Disabled the touchpad (ID 17) using xinput disable 17 to rule out its interference.
Switched to a mouse with a lower polling rate (10000us 4 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND

I’d love to get advice from the community on how to stabilize the USB subsystem. Could this be a driver issue, a BIOS incompatibility, or a power management problem? Any suggestions on further diagnostics or fixes would be greatly appreciated. I’m hesitant to update the BIOS without confirmation, given the risks.
Thanks in advance for your support!

And lscpi tells me that
0000:00:1c.0

PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #7 (rev f1)
These errors also appear (sometimes) when using wifi-menu to connect to my wifi. Sometimes this error does not occur at all, and sometimes it's spamming my shell.
Some times the error code also is Replay Timer Timeout
and sometimes Bad TLP
, but I don't know what it depends on.
Does someone know what might cause this error and how to fix it?
It's very annoying and hindering me from installing arch.

The only way i can recover is by a hard reboot. If the laptop is not connected to the network, it normally shows a time around 4am. Checking
journalctl -r
I see that the laptop entered suspend state at 4:13 and rebooted at 4:49

2. It sleeps at 4:13 hangs at 4:49 and is stuck in that state until I force a hard reboot.

Requesting for a second set of eyes to look at the issue.
https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=424249890f
The BT chipset is IMC Networks Bluetooth Radio
Searching online I see one post where the user gave up on getting BT working https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-40-kde-bluetooth-turns-on-but-wont-detect-any-devices/118079/26
and another where the user was able to get it working with
modprobe ath9k btcoex_enable=1
I tried modprobe and restarting it did not help. https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/imc-bluetooth-drivers-issue/42627/4
dmesg log is

Why does xrandr's --mode throw the error "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed"
I am on a RockPro64 running Ubuntu Jammy. ARM architecture. It is not detecting the native resolution of my acer ah101 headset. I set the "non-desktop" attribute to 0 and then I try and make a new mode, but when I attempt to set the mode I get an error. Any ideas?

After a long time using Windows (and getting tired of it) I was trying to install EndeavourOS in my Acer E5 575 laptop.
I had no problems with the installation, and everything was smooth as butter. When the installation was completed, I rebooted my device to start using EndevourOS, but when the laptop starts booting, I got a message saying that there is no bootable device.
This happened with a lot of distros (I tried multiple times with each):
- EndeavourOS
- ArcoLinux
- Linux Mint
- Ubuntu
- Manjaro
Not even one of them booted once after installation.
I discovered this thread that I think it may be the solution for my problems, but in the Acer website I can no longer select the version of the BIOS drivers I want to download.
Acer is just making me do whatever they want to do with my laptop, and I just want to run some Linux and have a nice developer experience compared to Windblows.
Does anyone know how can I solve this?
How can I downgrade the Acer E5 575 BIOS drivers to properly boot a fresh install of Linux?

So I have dualboot on my Acer Aspire with Linux Lite XFCE(Ubuntu) and Windows 10.
Network Controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac
A while ago I started having issues with Wifi connection regularly dropping when I was on Linux. Pinging my router (192.168.1.1) gave no result, but the Wifi icon identified that I was still connected. This was happening once in every 15 minutes or so and the fix was reconnecting or waiting a couple of minutes. Obviously, this is really annoying as I can't really work on my laptop because of this.
Under Windows Wifi works fine, no issues like that.
I found [this issue](https://askubuntu.com/questions/1125262/qca9377-unstable-wifi-connection-on-ubuntu-16-04) . I don't have access to the router I'm using and I'm sure there's a Linux solution because the issue doesn't exist on Windows.
Here's the wireless-info script result https://pastebin.com/Z4mZjaNd
[This question](https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/525272) 's solution did not work for me (changing router's bandwidth from auto to 20MHz)

I am currently switching from Windows to Linux on all of my Systems and now there is only my Laptop left. It is a Acer Nitro 5 AN517-52-514, on which I am trying to install Debian 12.0.
The problem: Whenever I try to start the install of debian, I am greeted by the following messages and unable to start normally. It just goes into recovery mode:
integrity: Problem loading x.509 certificate -65 \
integrity: Problem loading x.509 certificate -65 \

iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-Quz-a0-hr-b0-59.ucode (-2)\
(the same message with a few more other versions)\
bluetooth hci0: firmware: failed to load intel/ibt-19-0-4.sfi (-2)
Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to load Intel firmware file (-2)
I am especially confused by the iwlwifi firmware missing, since I installed the package and by the i915 one, since I installed it after the guide on debian.org. I aquired the file for the ibt firmware, but do not know where to put it so it gets detected.
I have already tried installing firmware-linux-nonfree.

Actually I guess it would be a treble-boot (or whatever the correct term is) because I already have Windows on here. (The laptop came with Windows pre-installed. I had Ubuntu installed in another partition, and I never never use Windows.) **How could I do this so that I will still use the grub from Ubuntu?**
My laptop specs:

AMD A6-1450 APU with Radeon HD Graphics × 4
Gallium 0.4 on AMD KABINI
64-bit OS

I've been beating my head against the keys trying to get Mint to install on an Acer 2-in-1. It does not have Legacy boot support and only has UEFI. I have made sure all BIOS options are correct such as disabling secure boot.
I boot into the Linux Mint live USB and try to run the installer. Everything goes fine until the
grub-install /dev/mmcblk1 failed
message appears. It supposedly writes all the partitions correctly after the install fails, just no grub??
I am NOT dual booting, I only want Mint on this laptop. I can't view any logs because the installer immediately quits upon failing (REALLY bad design). All I can see is cannot set efi variable boot0000
and a plethora of other errors titled interrupted system call
. I've been browsing google all day with different queries and still no luck. Maybe it has something to do with the MMC storage since it's not technically a SATA device (it shows up in Disks as an SD CARD lol). I have formatted with both MBR and GPT, as well as manually created each partition for swap, fs, and efi. Any help will be very appreciated!
Trying to mount all partitions after installer fail, and chrooting into it to grub-install
manually, results in something like:
>/efi/boot/grub.cfg.new cannot be found. Directory doesn't exist`.
update-grub2
also does not work.

I have an Acer Aspire E15 Start computer with which I have had a problem for a long time and which I cannot solve today.
One day I tried to install the latest version of the Debian operating system on this computer (I was using the GUI installation mode). Everything was going right.
The section to install GRUB arrives. It asks me to enter the partition to which I want to install GRUB, which I chose /dev/sda.
At that moment, I get a message similar to this:
I am not going to lie. I didn't know what you meant by "Force UEFI installation" So I selected yes.
After that, when the installation is finished, the computer restarts (as is normal) and since then, when I boot the computer in UEFI, I don't stop getting this message:
When I try to install any operating system, be it Windows or Linux in this way (I mean, in UEFI), at the end of the installation, this message always appears, and it's frustrating because I don't know what the error is.
I decided to take it to a computer store. I asked them to install a light operating system that I knew from Linux, which was Q4OS.
When the computer was returned to me, the operating system was installed correctly in UEFI, but something was wrong. In the "Boot Order" of the BIOS, there was an entry that I had never seen and it was placed first.
**"EFI Boot File 0: Q4OS"**
Turns out, I thought the UEFI was fixed, so I tried to install Debian again like I used to before all this stuff, and it got screwed again. I kept getting the message in blue.
I've seen many tutorials on YT saying that the solution is to move from UEFI to Legacy.
Right now, I have Arch Linux installed in Legacy (More than anything because it's faster) but it's terrible, because the BOOT graphics look super bad and it takes longer to load than in UEFI.
I would like to know if there is any solution to fix this, obviously ruling out continuing to install in Legacy or take it back to the computer store (they charge you a fortune)
If they could do it at the computer store, I would like to know how I could do it.
All the best!

I would like to use it with the lid closed, but I always had to open its lid at least for powering it up and selecting the operating system I wanted to use during boot. GRUB2 always showed only on the laptop screen, even if the HDMI monitor was plugged on. There was no way to get GRUB2 displayed on my HDMI monitor.

I have read online that adding
settings
menu, nothing; the slider moves but the brightness of the screen remains unchanged. This is driving me crazy..
I have also tried going into /etc/default/grub
and changed the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
value, but still no progress. Here is my grub
file:

acpi_backlight=video
should fix the problem, however it didn't for me...
What is going on? How can I fix my brightness? I want to be able to use the brightness slider or the keyboard buttons to change it!

**EDIT:** Wanting desperately to take control over my screen's brightness I have just tried using xbacklight
but it also does nothing!! I installed it, set a new brightness percentage, and it simply does nothing! What is going on? Nothing seems to work..

- Installed on 16-01-2021
- OS build 19042.928
- Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0
***Problem:***
To install Linux, I had:
1. Disabled secure boot and set a supervisor password Disabled fastboot
2. Disabled hibernate
3. Changed SATA mode to AHCI instead of "Optane with RST"
Everything was working perfectly and I could dual boot Windows and Linux.
But after installing the Windows 20H2 update and Insyde firmware update to upgrade the BIOS to 5.34.1.10 today, my PopOS (based on Ubuntu Linux) entry disappeared from the boot menu (which was opened by pressing F12 key). In fact the firmware update reenabled secure boot and fastboot and reverted to using RAID instead to ACHI.
I disabled these again, but the PopOS entry did not show up. **I did some research on the internet and found that one has to add the bootx64.efi file as trusted.** In order to do this one has to set the supervisor password. I have done so, but the "Select an UEFI file as trusted for executing" still remains grayed out. I also set the user password in the BIOS, but still it remains grayed out.
What should I do to access this BIOS option?

Grub Rescue -> Locked BIOS -> Unknown Filesystem (all partition)

I have an ACER Aspire S7 laptop. I originally had to dual boot my laptop. One was for Windows OS, and another one for Manjaro Linux. The two OS occupies the two hard disk that I have. However, since my laptop is aging, I removed Windows OS and just used Arch Linux. On the previously Windows OS disk, I placed my downloaded files in there for the mean time. But, I eventually occupied my storage for my Linux OS, and I cannot uninstall or remove anything since the libraries I am using occupies too much disk space. That time, I proceeded to expand my storage for my Linux to occupy both of the disk. But then, I encountered another problem. Before, I am using LVM for both of my OS, but since I separated my two OS to two disks, I degraded my system into using only the Physical Disks. So, I was unable to expand my memory easily, which I’ve thought before was so easy, since it is just expand and shrink volume. So, I proceeded to backup my files, and prepare for installation of LVM. The procedure was:
1. Backup my Files
2. Create LVM Partition on another disk
3. Switch to the LVM Partition
4. Wipe the Physical Disk and expand the LVM Partition
So, I successfully did the first three. However, upon wiping the Physical Disk, expanding it, and upon rebooting, I entered grub rescue. My boot files were gone, and I thought I updated my grub before rebooting. But apparently, it was not updated. So, here are my problems:
1. My BIOS settings are locked. Even if I access my BIOS settings using my password, I cannot change anything, even the boot order. So, I cannot boot into my bootable drive using BIOS settings.
2. I cannot use grub rescue to boot into my bootable drive. Before, when using grub, the
ls
command successfully reads the filesystem of the partitions I have. However, on grub rescue, it always output unknown file system. I tried different combination of ls, all were unknown filesystem. I tried different combination of setting the prefix and boot variable, but insmod normal does not work. (P.S.: There are (hd0), (hd1), (hd1, gpt4) -> (hd1,gpt1), (hd2). Upon inserting bootable drive. (hd0) (hd1) (hd2) (hd2, gpt4) -> (hd2,gpt1), (hd3)).
3. I tried removing my laptop battery, and CMOS battery to refresh my BIOS settings and allow me to boot into my bootable drive. However, it turns out that on my laptop, even if I remove the battery and wait for two hours, it still does not allow me to change the BIOS settings. The Acer logo was indeed removed. I found out that my laptop has anti-theft type of thing that makes the memory persistent such that it does not refresh settings even if CMOS battery is removed for days.
My next plan is to extract the BIOS EEPROM in my motherboard and program it using CH341A programmer. Before, I do that, since it requires me to access my hardware, it is somewhat a high risk high reward situation. Is there anything I can do before I do this? Like, for example, set the prefix variable in grub rescue to access my lvm_root arch linux boot.cfg, and insmod normal, or I dunno, any other methods? Or setup a flash drive such that when it was read by the grub rescue it will instantly boot into the flash drive (I don't know if this exist. I cannot find any source)? Or any tips for doing this (I am only following youtube tutorials for now)
