I've tried following:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
I've played a little with pepper-flash as well. I tried what results on Google told me. Still with no success. At the end I made it work on Chromium, but I don't really now which attempt did the trick, since I tried a lot. It is still not working in Opera.
Once it worked in both Opera and Chromium. But then, I guess after a release, it didn't worked.
Hope you can give me a correct way to update adobe flash player for Opera and Chromium - and maybe make it work in a way, so I just need to upgrade my system to automatically upgrade flash player by a new release.

We have two completely different computers both running Mint 17.2, one Xeon server with ECC memory and the other is an i7 laptop with _normal_ memory. Both have 8GB of RAM with default swap.
Both are used to play a CPU-demanding Flash Player game (~ 50% of CPU) in the latest Google Chrome with the latest integrated Flash Player.
Both have the recommended kernel installed:
$ uname -r
3.16.0-38-generic
The problem is, they both freeze almost every day, with an inability to switch to the console using Ctrl+Alt+F1, so I don't even know what happened.
It could be important that we have AP isolation enabled in our router and SSH is not set-up.

I was poking around the flashplugin of Adobe for Linux trying to get the Hardware Acceleration working (which my current configuration supports). Then I found several forums/blogs that recommend I create/modify some or other value in the
/etc/adobe/mms.cfg
, which didn't help at all for my current situation.
This leads me to think, does the Flash non-free plugin of Adobe for Linux read this file for configuration? Is there another way to modify Flash configuration without the traditional GUI's (flash-player-properties
doesn't help in the HWA topic and I am already tired of ticking the box Right-click -> Settings -> Enable Hardware Acceleration)?
I'm using Iceweasel 24.0a2, Debian Wheezy 7.0, _Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202 11,2,202,297_.
$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes

I'm looking for a way to watch YouTube videos in terminal (not in a browser or another window, but right there, in any bash session).
Is there a simple way to do this?
I imagine something like this:
$ youtube
I already know how to play a video using
mplayer
:
$ mplayer -vo caca local-file.avi
However, this opens a new window. It would be cool to play it in terminal.
Also, it should be compatible with tmux
sessions.
---
I asked another question for [how to prevent opening a new window](https://unix.stackexchange.com/q/160243/45370) .
---
For those that wonder where I need such a functionality, I started an experimental project named [*TmuxOS* -- with the concept that *everything should run inside of a tmux
session*](https://github.com/TmuxOS/TmuxOS) .
So, indeed I need a video player for local and remote videos. :-)

First things first - If I got it right, the Linux folks might like adobe alternatives like GIMP (instead of Photoshop) etc to work with images/pdf/videos on Linux. So they might never miss adobe products on Linux.
But what brings me to this question is - i found a article which describes on: How to Install Adobe Acrobat Reader on Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa Linux
I was surprised, because as per my understanding, none of adobe products are available for linux platforms (correct me if I am wrong ). Then I though Acrobat Reader might be an exception and checked on adobe site. My finding is as captured on the screenshot. --> No, there is no Linux Version of acrobat reader on adobe site.
1) I want to understand how ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.5/enu/AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i386linux_enu.deb exists when adobe does not show it on their website (ok even unix version is not listed on there website).
2) Like Acrobat Reader, are there any other products like Flash etc that can obtained through FTP.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

**When I open many tabs on browser, UI completely freezes**. In some cases I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 twenty or thirty times, after 15 minutes UI unfreeze, I switch to text terminal, kill browser and after that operating systems work fine. In other cases UI freezes completely, I'm not able to switch to text terminal and I have to reset my computer.
I'm experiencing difficulties in one of these browsers:
- Firefox with flash plugin enabled (firefox without flash works fine)
- Google Chrome (it doesn't matter if flash is enabled or disabled in
Chrome)
When computer freezes I don't see any strange errors in syslog.
Chrome, Firefox and Flash work perfectly on my computer in Windows 7. I have no freezing issues in Windows.
My configuration is:
> Now I use Linux Mint 17.1 64-bit.
> CPU Intel Core i5-4440 (with 4 cores)
> 8GB RAM
> Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD
> I have 2 videos: Intel HD Graphics 4600 and GeForce GT610.
> Swap is disabled
> CPU cooling works perfectly
> Memtest show no errors
In the past I had same issue with Google Chrome on different computer:
> Back then I used:
> Scientific Linux 6.3 64-bit
> Intel Pentium E5500
> 4 GB RAM
> On that configuration Google Chrome was also freezing X server. If I remember correctly, flash in firefox didn't freeze UI on my old PC.
**How can protect myself from UI freezing? Should I change some linux config file to avoid freezing? What is the reason of freezing?**

Mathxl is a (expensive) platform I need to use for homework but I can't get it to work. (It's a white screen) The stated system requirements include
Linux Ubuntu Firefox 46.0 to latest
Which should cover my Debian Firefox ESR.
The software requirements are:
Adobe® Reader®
Wolfram® CDF Player
Adobe® Flash® Player
Java™ Runtime Environment
Third Party Cookie Check
Three are working (Flash w/ freshwrapper for pepperflash, java w/ iced tea, and cookies). Adobe Reader and Wolfram CDF aren't functional and I don't believe they need to be for me to do my homework. I can view PDFs without Adobe Reader and the description of Wolfram CDF "Allows you to view and explore the Interactive Figures and e-text of certain titles that were created using Mathematica®" makes me think it's not commonly used. Compare to Flash "Allows you to view the questions within the course. You won't be able to complete any questions if you don't install this component!". But I can't complete any questions. I've been trying to figure this out for hours but I must defer to the powers that be on SE because I have to get this homework done. I'll post from the source of the applet if necessary.
My specs:
Linux debian 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.36-1+deb8u2 (2016-10-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux

To add more details about my setup. Laptop is a Thinkpad T420 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 4200M, hooked up to double monitors via docking station.

Linux can run native Windows applications through Wine. It sure can be awkward, tricky and faulty sometimes - but often it is quite possible.
Taking into account that Linux is much more similar to Mac than Windows, I suppose Linux should be able to run native Mac applications at least as well as Windows applications?
For example, why can't Linux run new Adobe Flash for Mac?

I need to install Flash player in Icewesel (Firefox), but I don't want to install it globally. I only want to use it in one of my several firefox profiles.
This is similar to installing addons as a user in Firefox (inside the user's profile only). User can install any addon he wants and other users/profile on the same machine are not affected by that addon.
I have downloaded the Flash player plugin from adobe.com and placed it in my
plugins
folder:
~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
When I restart Firefox, nothing happens (I have expected the new plugin will be found upon start and activated).
When I inspect ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/pluginreg.dat
, I see that a new entry has been added for the flashplayer plugin, but in the section [INVALID]
:
[INVALID]
~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so:$
1411257137000:$
I am sure this plugin version is compatible with my browser, because I was able to instal it on my test machine (using the standard installation method)
**How can I install Flash player locally (in one user's profile only) without root privileges?**
I am using Iceweasel (Firefox) 31.2.0 on Debian Wheezy (64-bit)

I'm going to switch to Linux with my new computer. I've read something weird about Firefox not supporting Flash on Linux (Chrome seems to support it, but I wouldn't want to switch if possible). The only sites I remember that I visit that use Flash are Youtube (with which I have no problem because I suppose it'll work fine with HTML5 (it'll work even better, because now with flash player I can't use the HTML5-only half speed configuration) and minigame sites (which I suppose it won't work anymore, but that's no big deal).
However, will this affect other sites I can't remember now? Just to be sure, is there any good alternative? (I've heard about Lightspark and Gnash, but they say that they aren't very good).

I have a dual monitor setup, with a small (laptop) and a bigger screen. Whenever I watch a video on some streaming website, and click fullscreen, the video takes the resolution of the smaller screen (1366x768) but shows up on the big screen (1920x1080). The remaining space on the right and below the video is just grey. I, of course, want the video to be fullscreen on the bigger monitor, and not just 1366x768.
Note: This is _not_ the problem where the fullscreen is always displayed on the primary monitor. For me, it doesn't matter whether the secondary monitor is primary or not and even if I switch off the smaller screen using xrandr, and only use the large monitor, the issue remains. I am not 100% sure if the video really takes 1366x768 but I guess it does.
I am using openbox as window manager. Any suggestions?

Environment:debian8+firefox esr 45.8
I want to install flash plugin for my firefox.
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (apt) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
There is a material about apturl problem
apturl for firefox
Do as the webpage say.
sudo apt-get install apturl
E: Package 'apturl' has no installation candidate
sudo aptitude search apturl
get nothing
And it is no use to set network.protocol-handler.app.apt in character chain with /usr/bin/apturl as value.
How to install flash plugin is another problem which can be solved this way.
1.add proper source into sources.list
echo "deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
2.sudo aptitude search flash
p browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash - PPAPI-host NPAPI-plugin adapter for pepperflash
p flashbake - automated snapshots with git
p flashbench - identify flash storage properties
v flashblock -
p flashcache-dkms - write-back block device cache for Linux (DKMS version)
p flashcache-utils - write-back block device cache for Linux (user space utilities)
v flashgot -
p flashplayer-chromium - Flash Player for Chromium (Pepper)
p flashplayer-mozilla - Adobe Flash Player
i flashplugin-nonfree - Adobe Flash Player - browser plugin
p flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound - Adobe Flash Player platform support library for Esound and OSS
3. apt-get update
4. apt-get install flashplayer-mozilla
The problem why **apt:adobe-flashplugin?channel=$distro-partner** can't be opened by firefox still remain.

I have followed all the instructions in the [wiki page](https://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer) , I made:
sudo apt install libflashplayer-nonfree
