I've tried following: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade I've played a little with pepper-flash as well. I tried what results on Google told me. Still with no success. At the end I made it work on Chromium, but I don't really now which attempt did the trick, since I tried a lot. It is still not working in Opera. Once it worked in both Opera and Chromium. But then, I guess after a release, it didn't worked. Hope you can give me a correct way to update adobe flash player for Opera and Chromium - and maybe make it work in a way, so I just need to upgrade my system to automatically upgrade flash player by a new release.

OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS \ WM: i3 (with polybar) I used to use the Opera browser downloaded from Opera's website as a .deb package, but there were several issues with that 'variant' of Opera, some being: inability to play some YouTube videos, inability to play Twitch streams, etc.. So, I did my research and found out that using Opera downloaded from Snap will have all these issues resolved, and so I removed the .deb Opera, and installed Opera from Snap (sudo snap install opera) and it resolved all my issues, but it created a new one. playerctl was earlier able to detect all the audio playing in my Opera, i.e. it detected Opera as a player. I was able to control the browser audio using it by binding some keys to playerctl commands in my i3-config, and also was able to display audio information in my Polybar using some scripts. But since I've started using the 'better', Snap version of Opera, playerctl does no longer detect it as a player, thus disabling me from controlling any of the browser playback. I thought it was some MPRIS issue, so i ran dbus-monitor "interface='org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties',member='PropertiesChanged'" (ChatGPT helped me with that) to see if Opera was even sending MPRIS signals or not, and it was sending the player signals. What seems to be the issue here? How do I fix it? Since this is my first post here, I tried my best explaining everything, but if I miss something, do ask me in the comments.

I am using openSUSE Leap 42.2 and Opera 46.0.2597.57. Some videos on the internet (maybe the half on YouTube) do not work on Opera. YouTube tells me that I cannot watch the video and suggests me visiting https://www.youtube.com/html5 . *H.264* and *MSE & H.264* are not supported by my browser as the page mentions, although Opera is listed as suported. I did some research and installed the following packages (which were not the sollution): - chromium-ffmpeg-extra - chromium-ffmpeg-extra-debuginfo - chromium-ffmpegsumo Maybe I need to mention that Firefox works pretty fine with YouTube and other videos that do not work on Opera. Thanks a lot for your help. PS: If this issue is fixed with openSUSE Leap 42.3 this would be an option for me, but I still hadn't enough time for an update.

I have good reasons to use Opera as my default browser (I find it lighter than Firefox Quantum and Chrome/Chromium, I like its speed-dial bookmarks, as well as other features and details). Opera browser cannot play Youtube streaming videos . enter image description here **Normal (non-live) youtube videos work fine.** **I know Youtube doesn't involve flash**, but in order to debug this in a larger context it may prove usefull to say that the same browsers that do not play live streams in Youtube (**Opera and Chromium**) are also affected by a problem where they cannot play (at least) some other (probably flash) internet video streams - while Google Chrome and Firefox are not affected by neither of these problems. Help me debug this. I am in elementary OS Loki up-to-date, Opera 52.0.2871.40. I have also posted this question: [How to tell if an internet video is flash or html5 ](https://superuser.com/q/1314426/162573) . --- Edit --- Installing chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra for the purpose of playing Vimeo videos (as indicated [here](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015677227-Troubleshoot-player-error-messages)) solved **for Chromium** all the problems I had with both Opera and Chromium (not playing live streams and a lot of other non-live online video): but **not for Opera**.

While Firefox is of course my browser of choice, I have a few others, for reasons, including Opera. In XFCE's "Settings Manager", in "Default Applications", Firefox is duly registered as the "Web Browser". So far, so good, everything works as expected. Now, it sometimes happens that an indirect opening of a web page results in the uncalled-for opening of Opera, for example when running debian-reference. No big deal, I just adjust sensible-browser via update-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser, and the deed is done … for a while. Then, I find Opera again as the sensible-browser, even though XFCE's "Default Applications" remain unchanged and Opera *is not* set as the default browser as per its own settings. I have https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ in my software repos, and automated updates, so that *may* be the route of this unseemly behavior.

At the least it has replaced the firefox which used to launch from the icon at the bottom of xfce with itself. Actually, the command under the button is: exo-open --launch WebBrowser %u ..so no opera keyword. How do I get it back to how it was and if necessary clean up anything else bad which it might have done?

again. Since the last time I messed with my old laptop, reconfiguring it for my daughter, she eventually got a new one and the poor old thing landed on my desktop. I don't want to throw it away because, in spite of showing its age (made in 2009), the laptop is still perfectly useable, running faster than even my desktop machine, which is two years and a half younger and has more RAM and a supposedly better processor (Pentium Dual E5700 versus Intel Celeron 900). So I formatted it and installed Arch Linux. The whole process was an ordeal, because of incompatible hardware (b43 wireles and sis671/771 graphics card), but I sorted out most of the hassles. Now I've got 1280x800@75Hz, no display glitches and the wirelss card works normally, thought it takes about 1 minute to fully start. I can help anyone with a similar setup, if asked. I am only left with one quite small issue: QtWebEngine isn't working properly. AFAIK it could be related to GLX issues (but glxgears working correctly and I even compiled an opengl app, wxglterm, which works OK. When I start ANY QtWebEngine browser it loads the page (cursor changes, links are clickable, text is copied to the clipboard) but everything inside the window is black. I have confirmed the problem with QupZilla, Qutebrowser, Otter-Browser and the Qt example apps "markdownviwer" and "simplebrowser" (which I compiled as tests). The problem does not affect Chrome or Opera (though they use the same rendering engine, they might be bundling their own version). Sis driver apart (which cannot be discusses for now, because the whole compiling process was too complicated), are there any non-hardware related causes for such glitch? Is there any Xorg.conf thing I should blacklist, block, load or configure? Here is my current Xorg.conf (the meaning of some entries I still don't know, this is mostly guesswork). I´ve created a portable version of the opera-browser (see https://gist.github.com/ruario/8416e36372f1a976a713 ). In order to open it I've got to type the command opera-developer_27.0.1670.0_amd64/run & in the respective directory. This works quite well. But when trying to run it within firejail using the command firejail opera-developer_27.0.1670.0_amd64/run & it won't work. Using the "--noprofile"-option however gives me fine results. So "firejail --noprofile opera-developer_27.0.1670.0_amd64/run &" works alright. Yet what I really want to do is running it with the "--private" option. So firejail --private=[path to a specified working directory] opera-developer_27.0.1670.0_amd64/run & would be nice. Yet I found out that this very command cannot work together with the "--noprofile" option. Is there a way to start my portable opera-browser within firejail using the --private-option? System is: Linux/Lubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, 64 bit
