I need to install an icon for a custom MIME type under Linux Mint 22.1. I've figured out a solution: https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/797501 . However, it only works for one icon theme, but I would like to install the icon so that it works with all icon themes. I believe to understand that hicolor icon theme is the standard fallback theme, and I tried installing the icon for hicolor, as suggested, for example, in this forum thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=433144 . It did not work for me. Moreover, the standard Linux Mint interface for selecting the icon theme does not even let to select hicolor on its own, so it is hard to debug. What should I do? I'm using Linux Mint 17.2 MATE I have a problem assigning an icon for custom (newly created) file type. **My task:** To set new double-click action and new icon for *.session files. **My sequence of operations:** xdg-mime install --novendor scite_session.xml xdg-icon-resource install --context mimetypes --size 48 text-x-session.png text-x-session xdg-desktop-menu install --novendor scite_session.desktop xdg-mime default scite_session.desktop text/x-session No errors have been displayed during these steps. Finally I've rebooted OS. **My files** (used in the above steps): *text-x-session.png* 48x48 PNG image file *scite_session.xml* SciTE session file *scite_session.desktop* [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Version=1.0 Name=SciTE (session) Comment=Loading SciTE session GenericName=Text Editor Type=Application Exec=SciTE -loadsession:%f Icon=Sci48M Terminal=false Categories= StartupNotify=true MimeType=text/x-session; **My results:** Everything seems to be OK except icons. + I see proper type "text/x-session" in "properties" page of any *.session file + Double-clicking on any *.session file invokes proper action according to "scite_session.desktop" + But the **icon** used by caja for *.session files **is still the same** instead of my new icon. **My question:** How to set new icon for mimetype in Linux Mint? I've noticed that xdg-icon-resource created a copy of my .png in ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/mimetypes Probably, I should copy it manually somewhere else?

I have learned to create a simple C++ GUI application using **GTKmm version 4**, and managed to compile it and make it run on Kubuntu. I have also defined a .desktop file with a custom icon and with the compiled GTK binary in its Exec section. I then placed the .desktop file in /usr/share/applications. I however, have not figured out how to set the icon in the titlebar to the same icon I'm using in the .desktop file. The icon I see in the titlebar resembles the icon I see in kcm_kwinxwayland.desktop. **Is there a way to set the icon in the titlebar to something different?** These are my files: C++ Source Code ---------------

I have tried to set the application icon directly in my C++ HelloWorld class code, right below where I set the window title, using several different methods that didn't work, like set_icon, set_icon_from_file, etc. **Is there a way to set the titlebar icon, either directly using gtkmm (set_icon_name?), or through other means, in Kubuntu?**

I was wondering what you could suggest me to use if you used different themes/icons.

I'm launching Battle.net with https://usebottles.com/ , and it creates two windows: one for the launcher itself, and one for the game. Both windows are missing an icon and show "steam_proton" mouseover tooltip. enter image description here I know I can control appearance of application menu items with StartupWMClass property, but both these windows have the same WM_CLASS of steam_proton, so I can't do that. What's different for these windows, is WM_NAME and WM_ICON_NAME properties, but GNOME seems to ignore those. Is there any way I can make GNOME use them?

The problem is that icons do not appear in my dock at all, thus rendering it pretty much unusable. ![no Latte icons](https://i.sstatic.net/796UX.png) I remember reading somewhere in a bug report (which I can't find at the moment, and was really difficult to find in the first place) that Latte uses libtaskmanager to display the icons. However, the task manager has no issues displaying icons whatsoever. How can I fix this?

What do I do? Any help appreciated.

I don't know how exactly to describe it verbally, but I just mean the white triangular arrows in this example image: \ menu with “Accessories”, “Education”, etc. In an icon theme that I'm trying to use they either don't exist or are the exact same color as the menus that they're on top of. I don't know how to look up what their standard filename is in GNOME/GTK/whatever icon sets because I also have no idea what they're called in a general sense.  I just want to go into that theme's folder in /usr/share/icons and either put them there or replace them with ones that are actually visible.
