I have been through my preferences and looked in everything that I think may have the solution. This is a new version for me as I use to use Mint 21 Vanessa. My new computer did not like Mint 21 Vanessa so my IT put this new version Mint 22 Xia 1 Cinnamon on my new computer. It is so different, and so ... I am a bit lost.

Why is the Scroll Lock key disabled in Cinnamon/Linux/Xorg?

I recently purchased a backlit keyboard that was designed such that the Scroll Lock key was used to toggle the back light. I quickly found that Cinnamon does not respond properly when the Scroll Lock key is pressed. Originally, I thought the keyboard backlight was DOA because everything else worked out of the box. After a reboot I found that before launching Xorg I was able to successfully toggle the backlight using the Scroll Lock key. Then, once again, after starting Xorg (and consequentially cinnamon_session), this functionality stopped working once again. In order to get the backlight working after launching Xorg I was forced to issue a: xset led named "Scroll Lock" to enabled and disable this functionality. After a bit of research I came across a program called xev that dumped key event information to the terminal after it was started. Upon pressing the Scroll Lock key the terminal was populated with this information: >KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x2c00001, root 0x2df, subw 0x0, time 2609824, (410,0), root:(1724,142), state 0x0, keycode 78 (keysym 0xff14, Scroll_Lock), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False >KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x2c00001, root 0x2df, subw 0x0, time 2609912, (410,0), root:(1724,142), state 0x0, keycode 78 (keysym 0xff14, Scroll_Lock), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: So I know the key event is being sent to the kernel. Also, interestingly, I observed strange behavior when in the terminal (still prior to launching Xorg or Cinnamon) and using Scroll Lock. Namely, at this point my backlight was toggling as expected, but when Scroll Lock was enabled nothing I typed was written to the screen. After disabling Scroll Lock everything I had written was immediately dumped to the terminal as if it was previously being buffered. **tl;dr** What is the deal with Scroll Lock and Xorg?

I found some solutions to fix errors, examples: restart computer, or re-install Cinnamon (sudo apt-get install --reinstall cinnamon cinnamon-screensaver cinnamon-session cinnamon-session-common cinnamon-settings-daemon libcinnamon-control-center1 libcinnamon-menu-3-0 mint-meta-cinnamon),... but not working. What do I have to do? Is there any solutions that do not recovery system or I do not need to delete all data? If you want to know anything, do not hesitate to ask me. Thank you so much.

Recently I began to use my laptop (Dell Inspiron N5020) with an external display. I use the displays side-by-side, internal on the left, external on the right. The problem is, however, that the display on the external monitor seems to be shifted to the right by a few pixels, and at the same time a few pixel wide column from the right edge of the internal display is duplicated on the left edge of the external. On a screenshot this is not visible. I illustrated what I'm actually talking about on this image: ![Illustration of the problem](https://i.sstatic.net/NPqnO.png) The type of the external monitor doesn't seem to matter. Same thing with a Medion 1680x1050 monitor with VGA connector, and a Dell U2311H through HDMI. Also I tried to set various resolution combinations, and it seems to only happen when the internal monitor is at its native resolution (which is 1366x768) (I have Linux Mint 15 x64 with Cinnamon.)

I am using cinnamon 2.2.16-1, awesome 3.5.5-1 and awesome-cinnamon from the Arch Linux AUR . The awesome-cinnamon package basically just creates the .desktop and .session files to load cinnamon with awesome wm as the window manager. This is almost perfect for me, but I would like to experiment with using the cinnamon panel in addition to or instead of the awesome wibox, because the cinnamon panel has attractive icons for the audio, wifi and power controls. I can't seem to find any way to start the cinnamon panel. I am left thinking that the cinnamon panel must be part of cinnamon's window manager. It seems from googling that there used to be a program gnome-panel and cinnamon-panel, but these don't seem to exist anymore. Does anyone know of a way to get this working? cat /usr/share/xsessions/awesome-cinnamon.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Name=Awesome Cinnamon Comment=Dynamic window manager TryExec=/usr/bin/cinnamon Exec=cinnamon-session-cinnamon --session=awesome Type=XSession cat /usr/share/cinnamon-session/sessions/awesome.session: [Cinnamon Session] Name=Awesome session RequiredComponents=cinnamon-settings-daemon;awesome; RequiredProviders=windowmanager;notifications; DefaultProvider-windowmanager=awesome DefaultProvider-notifications=notification-daemon $ cinnamon-TabTab: cinnamon-desktop-editor cinnamon-screensaver-lock-dialog cinnamon-extension-tool cinnamon-session cinnamon-json-makepot cinnamon-session-cinnamon cinnamon-launcher cinnamon-session-cinnamon2d cinnamon-looking-glass cinnamon-session-properties cinnamon-menu-editor cinnamon-session-quit cinnamon-screensaver cinnamon-settings cinnamon-screensaver-command cinnamon-settings-users

Working in a multicultural environment, I recently needed to switch the language displayed in my computer GUI (Debian 11 installed with Cinnamon). And I did not manage to do it easily! I have been searching around for a while to find out how to add an additional language to my new Cinnamon installation. Obviously, reading from the internet, there should be a **Languages icon** in Cinnamon **System Settings** panel. But this icon does not exist on my installation. Where did it go? **How can I have it back?** The workaround I used: - Close the Cinnamon session and open a Gnome session - Go to the Gnome system settings, choose the Country and Language menu, and select the language. - Then go back to a Cinnamon session

Then I restarted the OS and when it came back, it was totally messed. There is no title bar, no panel (task bar). Is there anything I can do, mostly by command line, to repair this? EDIT: desktop environments available are cinnamon2d, cinnamon and xfce.

Previously, Gnome Keyring only asked for the Default Keyring password when I attempted to launch Chrome. I tried playing around with settings in Seahorse to see if there was a work around for this, other than leaving the password database unencrypted. During that process I switched the default keyring to the Login Keyring. Obviously, that did not impact Chrome asking for a keyring password; so, I switched the default keyring back to the Default Keyring. Now, when Lightdm auto logs me in to Cinnamon, Gnome Keyring asks for the Login password every time, after logging in. I cancel that prompt and Gnome Keyring asks for the Default Keyring when I launch Chrome. (I'm fine with this) How do i return to the old behaviour of having the Login Keyring encrypted, but never asking for my user password? (default uses root) I never explicitly set up a password for the Login Keyring prior, and I'm pretty sure it was encrypted before since there has been a Login keyring file since I installed Gnome Keyring a few weeks back.

I am struggling a little bit with this issue I'm having with Nemo in Linux Mint (I just upgraded to 17.3 but this is happening since 17.1). In brief, I accidentally removed some shortcuts from the "My computer" section in the left sidebar of nemo as a user. I tried to restore them, nbut apparently I can't add icons to that tab, nor drag them from the "bookmark" section to the "My Computer" one. If I start nemo as root, I can add, remove, drag and drop icons in that tab, but of course the changings does not apply to the "user" version. Moreover, I tried to perform a clean install of nemo after purging it, but unsuccessfully. Can someone explain me where th configuration file of this sidebar are located and hot to delete them, or set their permission to user in order to drag and drop correctly into that tab? Alternatively, is there a "real" way to clean install Nemo and only Nemo without touching the other GTK features? Thanks a lot for your time, any help is really appreciated!

I am using a fairly recent version of Cinnamon (5.4.12), with desktop theme Adwaita-dark (and Adwaita sometimes). When I start a gnome-terminal window, it has a very thin (1px?) white border all around it. But as I like black terminals, I configured a black background to it, but now, I cannot see the window borders anymore. This also happens with other dark background applications. It can be very confusing to know which is which when terminal windows are overlapping, or even just next to one another. I tried to change this colour with no success: - by searching in the theme files in /usr/share/themes/Adwaita, - by playing with ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css to override some configuration, - by reading other similar questions , but they are either outdated or not applying to my use case. So, **how can I change the border colour of gnome-terminal (and possibly all other) windows to white?**

I am using fedora cinnamon and I need my PC to read DVDs. For some disks, the file manager can't mount them automatically. I know the problem isn't from the disks because I can read them by mount them using the command line with 'sudo mount'. when I tested using pmount seems to solve everything and the mounted disk even shows up in nemo's side bar. From what I understand nemo uses udisksctl by default; when I use this command on a disk with the auto mount problem: udisksctl mount -b /dev/sr0 I get > Object /org/freedesktop/UDisks2/block_devices/sr0 is not a mountable filesystem I get the same output even if I force it to mount it as UDF: udisksctl mount -b /dev/sr0 --filesystem-type udf I want to force nemo to mount using pmount. I'm not sure how to do this.

I've had Konsole installed on my Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon machine for about a year now and just about a week ago, the mouse cursor has been disappearing inside the window for whatever reason. You can only see it when you go to the title bar and click, and then if you perform literally any keystroke, it disappears once again. This is pretty annoying because I use nvim for programming and I need the mouse to copy text. Is there any obvious way to fix this that I am missing, or should I just go all in on the keyboard?
