I am struggling a little bit with this issue I'm having with Nemo in Linux Mint (I just upgraded to 17.3 but this is happening since 17.1). In brief, I accidentally removed some shortcuts from the "My computer" section in the left sidebar of nemo as a user. I tried to restore them, nbut apparently I can't add icons to that tab, nor drag them from the "bookmark" section to the "My Computer" one. If I start nemo as root, I can add, remove, drag and drop icons in that tab, but of course the changings does not apply to the "user" version. Moreover, I tried to perform a clean install of nemo after purging it, but unsuccessfully. Can someone explain me where th configuration file of this sidebar are located and hot to delete them, or set their permission to user in order to drag and drop correctly into that tab? Alternatively, is there a "real" way to clean install Nemo and only Nemo without touching the other GTK features? Thanks a lot for your time, any help is really appreciated!

Nemo is good at searching for files and folders. I use Nemo file manager in Xfce and would like to add the Nemo file-search action to WhiskerMenu in the same way Catfish is integrated to Whisker Menu following this answer : enter image description here Creating links to folders of other partitions in some location in $HOME and searching there would extend the search to those folders too, something that Catfish doesn't do. I would need a command that would start Nemo (by default in $HOME) and search for a variable file-name. During search, the CPU is put to work by the nemo process; enter image description here but nemo --help-all and man nemo show no useful options.

I am trying to add a custom command to Nemo (Linux Mint). I have the following script I've been running via the terminal (by manually changing directories): ls | cat -n | while read n f; do mv "$f" "$n.jpg"; done The desire is to take every file in a folder (all images) and mass rename them, in sequential order (1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.). It's cumbersome to open terminal into each folder and then run the command, etc so I want to add a custom command to Nemo. I have tried the following .nemo_action: [Nemo Action] Name=Sequential Rename Comment=Sequentially Rename All Files In Folder Exec=ls | cat -n | while read n f; do mv "$f" "$n.jpg"; done Icon-Name=Terminal Selection=s Extensions=dir; Unfortunately, what has happened is that the command seems to be run in my username's folder, renaming my Documents, Music, Videos, Pictures, and Downloads folders into 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. Does anyone have a solution to this? Ideally, I want to right click on a folder and press this action button to have it run.

That is rather frustrating. I've tried to use icon view as default in Nemo to quickly get a glimpse of what kind of images a folder contains, but Nemo shows (generates?) thumbnails in icon view from the end, not top. Whereas in list view I see it starts to show thumbnails from top and go to the bottom (just noticed that while investigating). So it is faster for the purpose to have list view as default and switch to icon view after opening the folder. Any idea for the reason? Where can I see it in settings/code and fix? TIA Nemo 5.4.2, Linux Mint 21.

Doing a disk check in Windows takes very long, I think in the order of 5 hours. This isn't a workable situation for us. I use Nemo file manager on Linux Mint 19 Tara. Usually I only work with the compact view without thumbnails (see image A), but occasionally I switch to icon view with thumbnails (see image B). To switch from A to B I have to 1. Open the settings 2. Enable thumbnails 3. Change to icon view and to switch back from B to A 4. Open the settings 5. Disable thumbnails 6. Change to compact view switching I'd like switch by just clicking the icon view (see image 3) or compact view (see image 6) buttons in the toolbar so that I have to click only once instead of seven times. **Q:** Is there a way to enable thumbnails only in icon view? I already checked for hidden dconf settings but couldn't find any. Maybe there is a plugin for what I need or a simple way to write one. **Possible workarounds which would also be acceptable:** - A toolbar button to toggle thumbnails on/off. - Enable thumbnails only for icon sizes > ??px. I always use small icons in compact view and bigger icons/thumbnails in icon view. **I'm _not_ interested in** - showing thumbnails only in certain directories or for certain file types. - using another file manager. This question is tagged as [tag:nautilus] since Nemo is a fork of Nautilus. If there is a solution for Nautilus please post it. I may be able to use that solution for Nemo too.

I made my account as the owner of the file with:

Then going through the Nemo GUI I went to: NASMainPool/WNAS -> Properties -> "share". Tried to enable share and allow for guest access -> got prompted to add additional permissions -> Clicked Add -> got this error: "Could not changer permissions of folder "WNAS". I have a USB drive connected to my router to access files remotely, and it can use ftp to connect (not ssh or sftp). I have the router login set to the same login as my desktop computer, and I can use Nemo to connect to the server for file transfers only if I set the ftp login to use the same login as my main router login. But, I have the option to set up an alternate login, which I'd like to do so I don't need to give out the router login to anyone. However, Nemo will not connect using either "Connect to server" or typing in a URL in the address line. It will only connect if the login name and password are the same as the computer. I believe there is some protocol for using your existing login for an external device. It's obviously not the router, as I can connect as expected using my phone's file manager (FX on Android). EDIT: I tried using a windows share option, and had the same problem. Something about sending the login information doesn't work, except when it's the system's login info. Even using user:password@address doesn't work; it prompts for a password, but the command it sends is screwed up.

I have no difficulty assigning the function to a key combination like Ctrl+e (by modifying the accels/nemo file), but I want to assign it to Ctrl+;. What I've tried: - ; - \; - semicolon - Semicolon - SEMICOLON - KEY_Semicolon - KEY_SEMICOLON - KC_Semicolon - KC_SEMICOLON - KP_Semicolon - KP_SEMICOLON The only one that seems to come close is: - semicolon Using that keycode will list the desired keyboard shortcut in Nemo's UI, but it does not work. Nemo seems to reject any of the other keycodes above, and does not even display them in its UI.

I carefully followed the instructions to add keyboard shortcuts to custom Nemo scripts as explained in this Ask Ubuntu answer and this Stack Overflow answer . Although this technique works great to modify Nemo keyboard shortcuts, the instructions aren't working to add keyboard shortcuts to Nemo scripts on a Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.3 box. To help debug this issue, I would like to better understand the syntax of the example line that implements this functionality (this line is contained in the accels/nemo file, which is located in a folder pointed to by environment variable GNOME22_USER_DIR): (gtk_accel_path "/ScriptsGroup/script_file:\\s\\s\\shome\\sUSERNAME\\s.local\\sshare\\snemo\\sscripts\\sedit.sh" "F4") - Why are backslashes used instead of forward slashes? - Why is the use of \s needed? - Just to make sure, is \\s\\s\\s after /script_file: correct? --- *Edit: Shortly after posting this, I resolved the larger issue, but I'm still interested in learning the answers to the above questions.*

I know about that xdg-user-dir stuff that helps make home subdirs in desired language. My locale is Russian and the system created 'download', 'documents', etc dirs in Russian language, and Nemo shows them as they are. But that's not cool (not handy when typing in terminal). I know how I can recreate these dirs with English names, okay. But what I want is: **let real dirs on disk have English names but have Nemo to show them in Russian, like Windows does.** In Windows (and AFAIK, in KDE too), there are hidden desktop.ini files that let override the display name for a folder they are in. Nemo seems not to not work that way. Is it possible in Cinnamon/Nemo?

When I open Dolphin and try to navigate to Work, it tells me /mnt/some_id does not exist. PCManFM-GTK can see it. The drive is not listed under /media/Me, but Backup is. In Drives, Work is shown as mounted, and the mount point shown there is the same one that Dolphin says doesn't exist. None of this makes any sense to me at all. I'd like all facets of my system to operate consistently. To sum up: the drive at /mnt/some_id works for some apps, but not all. Some apps say it doesn't exist. The goal: the drive at /mnt/some_id should exist for all apps

I realize the default of the Nemo's right-click "Open in Terminal" is to launch "gnome-terminal"; however, my installation is opening "xfce4-terminal" instead. A while back when "gnome-terminal" was broken, I installed "xfce4-terminal" as an alternative.  I configured the system-wide defaults to call "xfce4-terminal" for the terminal. After the issue with gnome-terminal was resolved, I moved the system-wide defaults back to gnome-terminal.  Nautilus starting using gnome-terminal again; however, **Nemo** continues to launch "xfce4-terminal". I uninstalled "xfce4-terminal"; then the "Open in Terminal" feature of Nemo stopped working. In attempts to resolve this issue I have done the following: * Reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 * Purged and reinstalled Nemo Nemo still will launch only "xfce4-terminal".  It appears to be a problem in my home folder's Nemo configuration or some other per-user cache.  I created a new user, and Nemo properly launched "gnome-terminal". Can someone help me with where to check and fix Nemo's functionality in my /home/username settings? Is there some type of editable configuration to check what happens when clicking on the "Open in Terminal" function?

Please don't mark it as duplicated before reading my question. I know that there already are those questions, but the existing answer did not work as expected, and that is why I am asking this question. Existing answers say that the way to set the default file manager is xdg-mime default inode/directory, and the way to locate a file with the default file manager is dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.FileManager1 --type=method_call /org/freedesktop/FileManager1 org.freedesktop.FileManager1.ShowItems array:string:"" string:"". But when I tested this on a few Arch-based distributions including Arch with Gnome, the dbus-send command did not always open the file manager that the xdg-mime query default indicates, after installing Nemo file manager (Gnome's default file manager is Gnome Files). Whilst xdg-mime query default inode/directory outputs nemo.desktop, the dbus-send... command above opened Gnome Files, and when the former outputs "org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop", the latter opened Nemo. (This is when there is no running file manager. If there already is an instance of a file manager, dbus-send command seem to use that file manager.) Is the dbus-send command above is the right command to "locate a file with the default file manager"? Whilst the dbus-send above command did not work as expected, JetBrain's IDE's like Android Studio or IntellJ correctly located the file with the default file manager, when I right-clicked a file, and then click "Open in", and then the file manager's name. I thought of looking into their source code, but those are huge applications and trying to search [their source code](https://github.com/JetBrains/intellij-community) returned no result (I used keywords like "open in" or "file manager").
