I'm using KDE Plasma with Dolphin on Debian 12 Bookworm, and I want to completely disable all tracking and history features related to:
- Recent Files
- Recent Folders
- Clipboard History
- Search History
- Recently Used Applications
I want also to clear any data and history that has already been collected by these features. How to prevent KDE from re enabling or recreating those logs.
Im looking for a thorough and systemwide solution that ensures KDE does not track or show anything from past activity.
What is the correct way to achieve this?

I've been trying for several days to optimize my KDE with Debian 12 bookworm, adjusting various settings and removing some programs that I don't actually need.
I tried to uninstall the Konqueror browser because I only want to use Firefox and Dolphin. But when I try to do it via the GUI or a shell, the system shows it wants to remove additional packages I don't want to delete.
Why can't Konqueror simply be removed without removing other packages?

1) Open Dolphin, instert USB, device recognized!
2) Insert USB, open Dolphin, device not listed :(
I can run a
mount /dev/sdc1 /mount/xxx
no problem.

Setting a profile as default in Konsole application results in all the terminal windows opening with that specific profile, even those opened from within Dolphin.
The objective is to distinguish between terminals/Konsole that are opened from within Dolphin and those terminals/Dolphin that are opened from outside of Dolphin by using the universal key combination CTRL+ALT+T or some other means.

When I use Dolphin File Manager in Detail View mode, for some reason there is an unnecessary horizontal scrollbar if I adjust my columns to fill the screen. The only way to get rid of the scrollbar is to make my columns much narrower and leave a huge gap on the right edge. I have tried turning "Side Padding" on and off, but it only seems to affect padding on the left side, not on the right.
The undesired scrollbar is visible in the screenshot across the bottom edge of the main window panel. How can I eliminate this? I am on Dolphin 25.04.0 with KDE Plasma 6.3.5 on Arch Linux (kernel 6.14.5-arch1-1).

After upgrading Kubuntu from 18.04 to 18.10 and that to Plasma 5.14.5 through the "backports" PPA I am lucky enough to face almost no bugs, except annoying notifications saying "kdeinit5 closed unexpectedly"
It happens when I take some normal actions in Dolphin: start a new window, new tab, split, refresh.
It seems to me that those actions are related to the Dolphin *window*; creating a new folder or deleting something doesn't trigger the error.
I read here that kdeinit5 is a process launcher that executes KDE programs and kdeinit loadable modules (KLMs) starting them more
efficiently. Using kdeinit5 to launch KDE applications makes starting a typical KDE application a couple times faster and reduces memory consumption by a substantial amount. - But as far as I can tell only Dolphin reports a problem with that.
I have not noticed Dolphin operation or that of any part of the desktop being affected at all by this, I would just like to avoid seeing those notifications.
Of course, I would like to have a solution that would avoid the error in the first place, but - if that is not possible until a future update etc - I am mainly asking here for a way to simply make those notifications go away.
---
I don't know how to debug this, or if the following is useful, but running

kdeinit5 dolphin
the file manager starts with the usual error while in terminal I get this:

I'm using a dark theme in Debian, but the Dolphin file manager just ignores it.
I have seen some examples of a dark theme in Dolphin, but I can't find a way to do it. I've seen some ways to set a background image, but of course that doesn't help me, because I would have black text on black background.
From what I've seen I might need a KDE theme. I have found [this](https://store.kde.org/p/1005685/) , but it gives me a
.qtcurve
file.
I looked up how to use it and [this page](https://www.maketecheasier.com/install-qtcurve-in-kde/) told me to use KDE system settings. Sounds weird, but ok, I installed the systemsettings
package.
But in the KDE system settings I only had the categories "shortcuts", "network settings" and "network connectivity". So I installed kde-config-gtk-style
and it did indeed add the "application style" category to the KDE settings.
There I first tried setting "BlackMATE" as the GTK2 and GTK3 theme, which did nothing. Then I tried importing the downloaded theme file, which didn't work, because it expected a .tar
file.
So I packed the theme file into a .tar
archive (which seems weird, why would I need to do that?) and imported that, which made the settings window become unresponsive and then close itself. I guess it's not the sort of tar
file it expects?
When I click "download GTK2 themes" or "download GTK3 themes", it stays at "initialising" and does nothing.
So how do I set a dark theme in Dolphin? Do I even need the KDE settings?

I find the following situation occurring:
running command-line sftp, I can connect to the other computer and successfully do cd /
. Also, running FileZilla I can get to the root dir of the remote. However with Dolphin, though I can make an sftp://myname@remote

How can I make this work, and in particular, if FileZilla and command-line sftp manage to do so, why can't Dolphin or Gnome Files do it?

I'm still relatively inexperienced in Linux and this is my first post here. I configured mdadm raid 10 far acording to archlinux RAID wiki page but with custom chunk size 64K. It contains 2 older identical hdds intended for use as data (documents, music, photo, movies, conf. backup and so on). I formated this raid to ext4 and added raid's filesystem UUID to fstab and mounted it as /home/dmk/data. Then I chown 1000:1000 the mountpoint. I'm on opensuse tumbleweed with KDE. In dolphin this data raid volume shows as removable, which is not desirable because I want to redirect user directories to my data raid and don't want an accidental disconnection when system runs. But in KDE plasma system tray, disk and devices, there is no removable device listed. Maybe it's only dolphin bug or what. So, I want to get rid of this remove option. I was looking in the dolphin settings with no luck, otherwise I think it's a linux issue. Can you please help me find a way to fix it and find a cause of this behavior?
Edit: I have linux on 60G partition of 480G intel ssd and I formatted the rest of drive as data fast partition mainly for steam game data. This partition correctly shows in Dolphin as non removable.
Edit 2: Here is my fstab:
UUID=a08f9faa-8142-415c-9ed7-6705237012b1 / ext4 defaults 0 1
UUID=b7d0abb1-cf05-45a7-ad4b-2ad4e3a68924 /boot ext4 data=ordered 0 2

Very strange. I am using a dark theme, but changing to a lighter theme does not seem to affect this anomaly in Dolphin. Also, my preferred one-click setting does not work with Dolphin, and I have not found a one-click option in Dolphin's settings. Perhaps Dolphin is not meant to be used with Parrot OS and Mate?

I use Fedora 40 KDE as my daily driver.
I was thinking of a keyboard shortcut that would let me focus on the
places
list in the Dolphin file manager.
Some would remind me of the key F9
; however, what that does is show/hide the places
option in the Dolphin. I am looking for a key map that would directly go to the places
option. What I have been doing till now is using the mouse to hover over the places
or keep hitting the tab button until I reach my desired option.
Is there any shortcut to achieve what I am looking for?

### Situation ###
I have qt6ct, systemsettings, lxappearance... installed. I open dolphin and it appears with white background. When hitting enter (or double-clicking) an executable shell script (a ".sh" file, for instance), it would be nice if this would launch the script inside a console window.
I am using the Dolphin file manager, and KDE with Debian 11. While there are many ways to open, launch, and execute scripts, but nothing that does this one simple thing.
When tapping enter on an executable shell script, the box below is displayed:
* "Open" will incorrectly "open the script" using the console app
*(result is that the console window opens, but nothing happens)*
* "Execute" will correctly run the script
*(result is that the script runs, but the console window never opens, and output is not shown unless it is redirected to a file)*
When right-clicking an executable script, the following menu is shown:
* "Open with Konsole" will incorrectly "open the script" using the console app
*(result is that the console window opens, but nothing happens)*
* **"Run in Konsole" is perfect!**
***(script is both opened AND run inside a new console window, and output is shown on-screen)***
The question is: **How can I achieve the "Run in Konsole" action using the Enter key on the keyboard?**
*That's the real problem here: using the mouse to right-click and pick over and over is tiresome.*
Apparently, this used to be possible in the Thunar file manager until recently (the feature was removed). Most other threads I have found on this topic all require the right-mouse-button:

* https://unix.stackexchange.com/q/326114/461964
Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

When running the Dolphin emulator from the stable Debian repos in Debian 12 with KDE I get the below error. However, no error is shown on a nearly identical machine where Dolphin emulator works fine. I already tried removing and then reinstalling dolphin-emu but I still get the same error. libllvm13 is the oldest version that is available in the repos. Installing that didn't help. There is no
llvm-libs
in the repos that's recommended in another question similar to this. It looks like in the machine where it works I have llvm11 installed locally (not from the repos) but llvm is not in the Debian repos. Bug report 1
When I run env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb dolphin-emu
it shows:
dolphin-emu: error while loading shared libraries: libLLVM-11.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Update: it does work in Lutris (if the environment variable is configured in the Dolphin settings) so that's a workaround as is [compiling Dolphin](https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/wiki/Building-for-Linux) .
Update: after updating the Dolphin runner in Lutris the Dolphin runner doesn't work anymore either: it shows this in the console: /home/username/.local/share/lutris/runners/dolphin/dolphin-emu: error while loading shared libraries: libavformat.so.60: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
and I only have the .59 package . That's probably a bug in Lutris (?). Dolphin can be started when changing the executable to /usr/games/dolphin-emu
in the Lutris settings for Dolphin.

So, once again, I performed an innocent-looking action in Linux, and not I can't put it back the way it was before.
The other day, I was trying to find something in the file system. (Usually, I use Dolphin, but this guide said I could find it more easily in Nautilus/Files in gnome.) While inside the "Files" app, I clicked on "Other Locations", and one of my hard disks was listed there. After clicking on it, I was prompted to mount that partition. I did not want to mount it, as it is one of the boot partitions, and was already mounted.
But now, each time I restart the computer, the same prompt pops up on login.
I have mounted it, and unmounted it. Everything is fine, it just mounts the already exisiting "/boot" partition to "/media/$USERNAME" which is silly and unnecessary.
I have:
* looked through Autostart
* looked through my list of devices
* modified "/etc/fstab" and added this particular UUID with the "noauto" option
Nothing seems to change, either good or bad.
**How can I find this location and get rid of the prompt on each login?**
*(The removable devices panel was interesting, as it had this trouble partition all by itself under "Attached Devices", but I cannot seem to make any changes here, or mark it to NOT be automatically mounted.)*

In running XFCE
In Dolphin I wish to have a right click context menu,
says myPythonScript,
that will run the python script with directory and path as python sys.argv, sys.argv
In Thunar to run it, I created a customs action as:
python myPythonScript %d %n
How can I do that under Dolphin?
I tried under
.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/
to create a file called
righClickTest.desktop
which content is:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Service
X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin
MimeType=all/all;
Actions=rightClick;
Encoding=UTF-8
[Desktop Action rummage]
Name=rightClick
Exec=python %d %n
But I do not see my rightclick menu.
Thanks

https://develop.kde.org/docs/apps/dolphin/service-menus/
I found this through my searches, adding my own service menu seemed like a fair option. Though I could not find the Mime Type for DVDs; on this list (https://www.digipres.org/formats/mime-types/) I found video/dvd but it doesnt do the trick, the menu doesnt show.
I also tried applying it to directories, thinking I might get recognized as directory, but it didnt work.
Any idea would I could do?
Thanks

KDE applications configuration - how do they do it?

I've been tackling a project more seriously lately, a project that probably every Linux dev goes through at some point - dotfiles management.
KDE (and it's applications) has a history of resisting having it's configuration files being managed in a version control system.
That is because KDE's config files are not exactly gathered all in one place and they are also not intended to be manually edited, i.e. they are autogenerated.
Here is a git repo listing some of KDE's own config files: https://github.com/shalva97/kde-configuration-files
And when trying to configure specific applications like Konsole we also have a few, for example
and the profile specific config files location in:
in which also Konsole colorscheme files are located. I have put the profile and colorscheme files in my repo, but for konsolerc that wouldn't work, as it changes depending on stuff like what my display setup is for example. But there is an alternative: using the command
~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/konsole/konsoleui.rc
~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/konsole/sessionui.rc
~/.local/share/knewstuff3/konsole.knsregistry
although I am not sure at all on what these do, more importantly though there is also:~/.config/konsolerc
and the profile specific config files location in:
~/.local/share/konsole/
in which also Konsole colorscheme files are located. I have put the profile and colorscheme files in my repo, but for konsolerc that wouldn't work, as it changes depending on stuff like what my display setup is for example. But there is an alternative: using the command
kwriteconfig5
or kwriteconfig6
(depending on if using plasma5 or plasma6) you can generate the file.
This works-ish. There are some settings I must have missed, as Konsole does not look quite the same on all my machines.
How do then distros like Manjaro, Kubuntu or OpenSUSE customize their KDE versions, do they use something like konsave
(https://github.com/Prayag2/konsave) to export all KDE settings or do they use kwriteconfig
, or some other way entirely?
Or more generally speaking, where can you find some documentation on commands like kwriteconfig
, KDE config files and/or other customization options?
In the future I would like to version control (or generate using a script) the config files for Dolphin and qt theming, but it's really hard to find out where you can find stuff like that.
